  • Publication number: 20140210454
Abstract: Conductive strips are stacked, insulated, folded, and formed into geometric shapes to provide a low resistance, low inductance, shunt, wherein the geometric shape readily enables cooling to reduce changes in resistance due to self-heating effects. One such geometric shape is attained by winding the conductive strips into a spiral. Another geometric shape is a shape resembling a wave. Both geometric shapes allow cooling by directing airflow from a fan across their surface portions. A variable-speed cooling-fan is controlled in response to measured temperature of the shunt, or in response to a measurement of the current through the shunt. Differential cooling may be employed by means of changing the amount of airflow across various portions of the shunt in response to measured temperature of the shunt.

  • Publication number: 20140202219
Abstract: The invention is a locking device for use with any electrical equipment or appliance or device having a cord and attached electrical plug, it encapsulates the plug end and is lockable such that the electrical device is disabled and can no longer be plugged into a power source. The invention includes a housing of two halves, hinged at one end, with the interior of the housing shaped and dimensioned to receive the electrical plug. The invention also includes a locking mechanism with two latches operable via a special key. The key has a shaft with two portions having differing widths and which are complementary to corresponding apertures in the latches. The invention is useful for controlling the use of electrical devices, for example, gaming consoles and television.

  • Publication number: 20140198837
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for transmitting data over physical channels to provide a high speed, low latency interface such as between a memory controller and memory devices with significantly reduced or eliminated Simultaneous Switching Output noise. Controller-side and memory-side embodiments of such channel interfaces are disclosed which do not require additional pin count or data transfer cycles, have low power utilization, and introduce minimal additional latency. In some embodiments of the invention, three or more voltage levels are used for signaling.

  • Publication number: 20140174504
Abstract: A solar concentrator comprises a pair of concentric reflectors having a spindle toroid geometry for focusing the collected solar radiation into a ring-shaped focal area, as opposed to the “point” or “line” focus of prior art configurations. In a preferred embodiment, each reflector is formed of a plurality of curved petals that are disposed in a contiguous, keystone arrangement that requires no additional fixturing to hold the petals in place. Such an arrangement reduces the weight, complexity and cost of the final solar concentrator structure.

  • Publication number: 20140074665
Abstract: An online system and service that enables charities to receive and encourage donations through donors selling items, such as goods or services, in exchange for a charitable receipt from the charity. The system enables a seller to post an item for sale and for buyers to buy the item for sale at fair market value (FMV). The seller can designate one or more charities to receive all or a portion of the monetary proceeds from the sale. Through a filtering system the items are searchable by a number of criteria, including: charity, price, seller, recency of posting, etc.

  • Publication number: 20140037488
Abstract: Current piston based air-conditioning system compressors only have isentropic efficiencies near 50%. Making internal leakage and friction negligible, via detailed design of the vane machine, would almost halve power consumption. In addition, by recovering expansion energy that is normally wasted via an expander, the system Coefficient of Performance COP can be improved up to an additional 30%.

  • Patent number: 8529604
Abstract: A bottom-loading multi-axial bone anchor apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes a receiver member, a crown member, a bone anchor and a retaining member. The receiver member defines an upper opening and a lower opening, which may form part of the same opening, a channel, and a groove. The crown member and bone anchor are loaded into the lower opening of the receiver member, and the retaining member fits around the bone anchor and into the groove in the receiver member. The bone anchor is capable of multi-axial positioning with respect to the receiver member. An elongated member is placed in the channel of the receiver member, contacting the crown member, and a compression member is applied via the upper opening. The compression member presses down on the elongated member, which presses down on the crown member and locks the bone anchor between the crown member and the retaining member.
