  • Publication number: 20130100936
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of a base station, the method comprising: obtaining information about a service currently used by a communication terminal associated with the base station; performing predictive scheduling of transmissions from the communication terminal to the base station based on the obtained information, the predictive scheduling including determining an interval I which is the predicted maximal time period between consecutive transmission grants sent by the base station to the communication terminal; sending a first transmission grant to the communication terminal at the time t=0 in accordance with the predictive scheduling; sending a first SR inhibiting indicator to the communication terminal, preventing the communication terminal from sending a Scheduling Request (SR) to the base station unless a specified criterion is fulfilled; and sending a second transmission grant to the communication terminal at the latest at the time t=I. The invention also relates to the base station.

  • Patent number: 8396480
Abstract: In a multi-access system, an access selection principle is achieved by selecting a signal strength threshold level based on a determined load level (ULOCAL) in a first access network. A new user in an area commonly covered by more than one access network attempts to allocate to the first access network if an experienced signal strength exceeds the signal strength threshold level. Communication utility can preferably be maximised or at least be taken into account by using suitable load level dependencies. By increasing the threshold when the load level approaches the capacity limit, a completely filled first access network is avoided. This gives an opportunity to let particularly well-suited users still have access to the first access network. At the same time, since the preferred access is decided before the actual access attempt, control signalling can be significantly reduced, even at very high traffic loads.

  • Publication number: 20120327799
Abstract: The present invention relates to a network node such as a base station for a wireless communications system, and to a method for supporting a change of a buffer estimation state of a user equipment from a passive to a proactive state. The method comprises receiving (410) information describing a buffer status of the user equipment, and determining (420) whether to change the buffer estimation state of the user equipment to the proactive state based on the received information. The purpose is to achieve a more correct UE buffer estimation state and thus better accuracy for the buffer estimation.

  • Publication number: 20120294216
Abstract: A method for use in a cellular system with a controlling node and user terminals, UEs. In the system, UEs can assume one of at least two states, a non-listening state, i.e. a state during which a UE does not listen for data from its controlling node, and a listening state, an “on duration” state. According to the method a UE in the system is able to alternate between said two states according to a certain scheme, the scheme according to which a UE in the system alternates between said two states being dependent on whether or not data units which are transmitted between the UE and its controlling node are received entirely and correctly within an initially allocated resource for each data unit.

  • Patent number: 8290500
Abstract: Method and arrangement in a base station for computing a delay time parameter of data in a buffer of a terminal. The base station and the terminal are within a wireless communication system. The terminal buffer is arranged to comprise frames, which frames in turn are arranged to comprise data. The method comprises determining a service requested by the terminal, estimating the arrival time of the last frame comprising transmit data to be received from the terminal, estimating the number of frames comprised in the buffer of the terminal, establishing a frame interval according to the determined service and estimating the arrival time of the oldest frame in the terminal buffer by subtracting, from the estimated arrival time of the last received frame comprising transmit data, one established frame interval for each frame the terminal buffer is estimated to comprise, additional to the oldest frame.

  • Publication number: 20120230219
Abstract: The invention relates to a method in a source radio base station (14) for enabling a handover of a connection to a user equipment (13) from a source cell (11) to a target cell (17). The source radio base station (14) serves the source cell (11) and is comprised in a radio communications network (100). The source radio base station receives (802) at least a first segment of a measurement report from the user equipment (13), which measurement report indicates received signal power of signals of neighbouring cells. The source radio base station then determines (803) a transmission time of the segment of the measurement report and compares (804) the transmission time with a predefined time threshold value. When the transmission time has exceeded the time threshold value, the source radio base station determines (806) whether to perform the handover based on the at least first segment of the measurement report.

  • Patent number: 7899484
Abstract: Methods for downlink power control in wireless communication systems are provided. In response to a transmitter power change request from a mobile terminal (110) over a wireless connection, a base station (122) determines a power control parameter based on its current total transmitter power PDL. The power control parameter preferably relates to a maximum connection-specific transmitter power, a power step size and/or a power increase probability, and is used by the base station to distribute transmitter power pi to the connection.

  • Patent number: 7554998
Abstract: Route selection through a wireless mesh network between a source node and a destination node is based on minimizing generated interference in order to increase the capacity of the network. An interference energy associated with transmitting a packet over each hop in multiple routes from the source node to the destination node is determined. The interference energy for each hop is combined to generate a combined interference energy for each route. One of the routes is selected based on the combined interference energy determined for each route.

  • Publication number: 20090052322
Abstract: In a mobile communication system having channels with different bandwidths, a channel bandwidth can be dynamically selected for transmitting data over a connection between a radio access network and a mobile station. According to the invention, a channel bandwidth and also a target for a data error rate for the transmission is selected based on a determined transmission need, i.e. a determined characteristics of the data to be transmitted and on a determined load of a communication resource, e.g. channel power and/or total carrier power used in a cell. By making it possible to dynamically select a data error rate, a connection can, by increasing the data error rate and consequently decreasing the channel power, carry on using a certain channel bandwidth even if at a first instance a load threshold level is achieved for the channel power or the total power used in the cell. Thereby, the capacity of the system can be increased, while at the same time the throughput over the connection is increased.
