  • Publication number: 20080318588
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for scheduling resources for uplink transmissions in a radio access network comprising access points which own pre-assigned resources. The invention also relates to an access point (5-7), a user terminal (1-4) and an access point controller 8. Characteristic features of the invention are that each AP places its resources to the disposition of other APs in the access network, and that an AP (7) transmits a blocking signal (BLOCK R3) if it does not allow a UT (3), which is served by an AP (5) in another cell, to use its resources (R3). A UT that detects a blocking signal from an AP that owns the resources on which the UT is transmitting immediately stops transmission on said resources. The signal quality of a detected blocking signal may be used for setting the transmission power on the resources the UT has borrowed from the AP which transmits the blocking signal.

  • Publication number: 20080304455
Abstract: In a method of selecting an access network from among one or more access networks capable of providing service to a mobile communication terminal, measuring (S1), for at least two access networks, an end-to-end quality through the whole communication path between the terminal and a destination node, and selecting (S2) at least one access based on said measured end-to-end quality.

  • Publication number: 20080305744
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a wireless station for initiating radio resource measurements. A wireless station identifies a need for radio resource measurements by a second wireless station despite there is no association between the wireless station and the second wireless station allowing direct radio communication between said stations. The wireless station initiates a request for radio resource measurements by the second wireless station.

  • Publication number: 20080075030
Abstract: Methods for downlink power control in wireless communication systems are provided. In response to a transmitter power change request from a mobile terminal (110) over a wireless connection, a base station (122) determines a power control parameter based on its current total transmitter power PDL. The power control parameter preferably relates to a maximum connection-specific transmitter power, a power step size and/or a power increase probability, and is used by the base station to distribute transmitter power pi to the connection.

  • Publication number: 20070297399
Abstract: In a multi-access system, an access selection principle is achieved by selecting a signal strength threshold level based on a determined load level (ULOCAL) in a first access network. A new user in an area commonly covered by more than one access network attempts to allocate to the first access network if an experienced signal strength exceeds the signal strength threshold level. Communication utility can preferably be maximised or at least be taken into account by using suitable load level dependencies. By increasing the threshold when the load level approaches the capacity limit, a completely filled first access network is avoided. This gives an opportunity to let particularly well-suited users still have access to the first access network. At the same time, since the preferred access is decided before the actual access attempt, control signalling can be significantly reduced, even at very high traffic loads.

  • Publication number: 20070223403
Abstract: In a wireless network using a carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) scheme is provided a method, system, devices and instruction sets for detecting transmission levels and adjusting the transmission levels for both a connection point and mobile stations within the network in order to reduce power consumption in network devices and minimize interference problems while keeping hidden node problems on a controlled level.

  • Publication number: 20070171902
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, device and system for handling short data packets, such as speech packets, in a communications network, and in particular a wireless local area network. The present invention is based on collecting several data packets from several users active on the network in one data transmittal protocol packet, transmitting this protocol, and receiving the protocol wherein the each of the several data packets are addressed to specific destinations. This reduces the overhead/data ratio and thus increases the capacity of the network.

  • Publication number: 20070091851
Abstract: In a method of selecting an access network from among one or more access networks capable of providing service to a mobile communication station, a radio quality from the terminal to each access network is determined (S1), for each access network, a utilization factor for at least one node is determining (S2), for each access network, a user perceived data quality, based on said determined utilization factor and said determined radio quality for the access network, is determined (S3), and at least one of said access networks, is selected (S4) based on the determined user perceived quality, whereby an improved user perceived data quality is enabled.

  • Publication number: 20060153081
Abstract: Route selection through a wireless mesh network between a source node and a destination node is based on minimizing generated interference in order to increase the capacity of the network. An interference energy associated with transmitting a packet over each hop in multiple routes from the source node to the destination node is determined. The interference energy for each hop is combined to generate a combined interference energy for each route. One of the routes is selected based on the combined interference energy determined for each route.

  • Publication number: 20050136961
Abstract: A method for downlink power control in wireless communication systems is provided. In response to a transmitter power change request from a mobile terminal (110) over a wireless connection, a power control parameter is determined at network level based on connection-specific information indicating the degree of priority of the connection (DPIi). The power control parameter preferably relates to a maximum connection-specific transmitter power, a power step size and/or a quality target, and is used by the base station to distribute transmitter power (pi) to the connection.
