Publication number: 20150068732Abstract: A component of a slip assembly is formed by rolling sheet molding compound into a rolled charge. The rolled charge is positioned in a compression molding press and compressed to produce a molded element. The molded element is removed from the compression molding press and can be machined for use as the component of the slip assembly. The component can be a slip segment or can be a cylindrical body for the slip segment. The compound layers in the molded component can be oriented in a number of different orientations in the component and can increase the overall strength of the component.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2014Publication date: March 12, 2015Inventors: James A. Rochen, Matthew R. Stage, Jonathan A. Young

Publication number: 20140329060Abstract: A panel for use in building construction comprises a substrate board having two opposed faces. A lamina is secured to a first one of the faces of the substrate board by means of one or more regions of bonding between the lamina and the board. The one or more regions of bonding cover a total area that is less than 20% of the total interfacial area between the lamina and the board.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2012Publication date: November 6, 2014Applicant: SAINT-GOBAIN PLACO SASInventors: Guillaume Vivier, Thomas Barraud, Valentina Dodson, Nicholas Jones, Jonathan Young

Publication number: 20140262214Abstract: A slip assembly for a downhole tool, such as a bridge plug, has a slip body composed of independent segments. The segments are affixed together along their longitudinal sides by a bond, which can be composed of thermoplastic or thermoset resins, an elastomer, epoxy adhesives, bonding agent manufactured using ceramic, metallic agent, or a combination of these. The surface area over which the bonding agent is applied can be controlled for a particular implementation. Thus, more or less of the longitudinal sides of the segments can be bonded to other segments. This provides greater control of the required force to break the bond itself, which can be tailored as desired.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2014Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventors: Nauman Mhaskar, Shawn J. Treadaway, Matthew Stage, Jonathan A. Young

Publication number: 20140224477Abstract: A downhole tool, such as a fracture plug used during a fracture operation, installs in a downhole tubular, such as casing. The tool has a mandrel with a sealing element disposed thereon between uphole and downhole ends. Slip assemblies on the mandrel can be moved to engage the downhole tubular. The uphole assembly has inserts composed of ceramic material, and the downhole assembly has inserts composed of a metallic material. When the tool is used as a bridge plug, the uphole assembly supports the sealing element compressed, and the downhole assembly supports fluid pressure downhole of the tool. In one particular embodiment, the metallic material is a powdered metal material, such as a sintered-hardened powdered metal steel having a balance of iron, an admixture of carbon, and alloy components of molybdenum, chromium, and manganese.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2014Publication date: August 14, 2014Applicant: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Wiese, Jonathan Young, James Alan Rochen, Matthew Stage

Publication number: 20140090831Abstract: A slip assembly for a downhole tool, such as a composite plug, has a slip body and at least one insert. The slip body has an incline at one end that interfaces with an inclined surface of a cone. As this occurs, the slip body is pushed away from the tool's mandrel against a surrounding casing wall. The insert is disposed in the slip body with the axis of the insert angled away from the cone. In particular, the insert's axis is preferably angled normal to the slip body's incline and the inclined surface of the cone.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2013Publication date: April 3, 2014Applicant: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Young, Stephen Wiese, James Alan Rochen

Publication number: 20120043070Abstract: A downhole tool, such as a packer or liner hanger, has a mandrel on which slips are disposed for engaging a surrounding tubular downhole. When the tool is being run in or out of the hole, at least one magnetic component magnetically retains the slip adjacent the mandrel so the slip can be held away from the surrounding tubular. When the tool is set downhole, the initial magnetic retention can be broken, and the slips can be moved away from the mandrel to engage the surface of the surrounding tubular.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2011Publication date: February 23, 2012Applicant: WEATHERFORD/LAMB, INC.Inventors: Patrick J. Patent number: 8098826Abstract: A method of autocalibrating the timing of the laser in a quantum key distribution (QKD) system is disclosed. The laser generates photon signals in response to a laser gating signals from a controller. The method includes first performing a laser gate scan to establish the optimum laser gating signal arrival time corresponding to an optimum bit-error rate when exchanging photon signals between encoding stations of the QKD system. Once the optimum laser gating signal arrival time is determined, the laser gate scan is terminated and laser gate dithering is initiated. Laser gate dithering involves varying the arrival time of the laser gating signal around the optimum value of the arrival time. Laser gate dithering provides minor adjustments to the laser gating signal arrival time to ensure that the system operates at or near the optimum bit-error rate.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2005Date of Patent: January 17, 2012Assignee: MagiQ Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan Young

Publication number: 20110099270Abstract: A communications device, such as a mobile telephone, fixed line telephone, computer with network access, or any other similar device which is equipped to communicate using network and/or telephony protocols, is provided, wherein before a call or other communications sessions is set up and made, a determination of the present time at the intended recipient of the call or session is made. In some embodiments, this determination of the time at the intended recipient's location is displayed to a user of the calling device to allow the user to decide whether to proceed with a call to the intended recipient. In other embodiments the determined time is compared with a set of one or more predetermined time bands during which calls to a recipient should not be made. Depending on the results of the comparison, the operation of the communications device is altered, for example, in one embodiment the call is not made, and the user preferably informed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2008Publication date: April 28, 2011Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventors: Peter Hartman, Jonathan Young

Patent number: 7809143Abstract: Systems and methods for verifying error-free transmission of the synchronization (“sync”) channel of a QKD system are disclosed. The method includes sending a first pseudo-random bit stream (PRBS) over the sync channel from Alice to Bob, and verifying at Bob the accurate transmission of the first PRBS. The method also includes sending a second pseudo-random bit stream (PRBS) over the sync channel from Bob to Alice, and verifying at Alice the accurate transmission of the first PRBS. If the transmissions of a select number of bits in the first and second PRBSs are error-free, then the sync channel is verified and the QKD system can commence operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2005Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: Magiq Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Young, Harry Vig, J.
