  • Publication number: 20050039715
Abstract: A heater for a liquid has a combustion chamber, a jacket for the liquid extending about the combustion chamber and a burner head assembly connected to the combustion chamber. The burner head assembly includes a housing having a burner mounted thereon and a hollow interior. A control module and a fan are mounted in the hollow interior, the fan being connected to an electric motor. A compressor and a fuel pump are mounted on the housing and are operatively connected to the electric motor. The control module may include controls for exercising components of the heater prior to combustion, thereby verifying operation of these components. Preferably there is a speed control for the motor, such as a closed loop speed control which regulates motor speed and accordingly output of the heater. Preferably there is a backup system using a lookup table in the event that the closed loop speed control fails.

  • Publication number: 20050026915
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with compounds of the general Formula I: and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which are useful as melanin concentrating hormone receptor antagonists, particularly MCH-1R antagonists. As such, compounds of the present invention are useful for the treatment or prevention of obesity or eating disorders associated with excessive food intake and complications thereof, osteoarthritis, certain cancers, AIDS wasting, cachexia, frailty (particularly in elderly), mental disorders stress, cognitive disorders, sexual function, reproductive function, kidney function, locomotor disorders, attention deficit disorder (ADD), substance abuse disorders and dyskinesias, Huntington's disease, epilepsy, memory function, and spinal muscular atrophy. Compounds of formula I may therefore be used in the treatment of these conditions, and in the manufacture of a medicament useful in treating these conditions.

  • Publication number: 20040256477
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for maintaining a temperature between a first value and a second value. The method and apparatus utilize a heat transfer device capable of cycling through a series of cycles, the device being capable of changing the temperature from the second value to the first value when operational. During each cycle the device transfers heat for a first period of time when the temperature reaches the second volume until the first value is reached and thereafter the device stops transferring heat. The first period of time is compared to a desired cycle-on period of time during each cycle and the second temperature value then is adjusted for a subsequent cycle of the device so the first period of time when the device transfers heat approaches the desired cycle-on period of time. There may also be provided temperature controls for a liquid heater having a jacket containing the liquid. The jacket has an inner heated wall and an outer wall spaced apart from the inner wall.

  • Publication number: 20040244752
Abstract: A burner head assembly for a burner includes a housing having a hollow interior and an exterior. There is a control module within the hollow interior. The module has internal connectors within the hollow interior and external connectors on the exterior of the housing, whereby electrical connections to the module can be made internally and externally with respect to the housing without requiring apertures in the housing and wiring extending through the apertures. For example, the control module may include a circuit board, the circuit board having a portion within the hollow interior and which extends to the exterior. The exterior and interior connectors are connected to the circuit board. The housing may have two portions, the control module being fitted between the two portions of the housing. Preferably the control module is sealingly received between the two portions of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6714222
Abstract: A graphical user interface provides access to communications and other applications in a home environment by utilizing icons that are consistent with a refrigerator/magnet metaphor. A background is displayed on a touch screen, and one or more virtual magnets are displayed on the background. The virtual magnets may be dragged to new locations by a user. Tapping on a virtual magnet activates a corresponding application. The virtual magnets can further exhibit magnetic properties, such as alternatively repelling or attracting one another. When an application is activated, an application window is made to appear on the background, preferably in the form of a sheet of paper. The corresponding virtual magnet can be made to appear to be affixing the sheet of paper to the background, thereby reinforcing the refrigerator/magnet metaphor.

  • Patent number: 6450801
Abstract: A stove apparatus includes a frame having an interior opening. A burner is mounted within the opening. A liquid fuel container is mounted on the frame within the opening. A fuel conduit extends between the container and the burner. A heat shield extends about the burner and separates the burner from the fuel container. Preferably the apparatus has a manually operable device which simultaneously regulates a valve controlling a flow of fuel from the fuel container to the burner and a control device controlling the output of a compressor supplying compressed air to the burner. The compressor may have a suction port. The apparatus then includes a suction conduit connecting the suction port to the fuel container, whereby the compressor can selectively draw fuel into the container. The fuel container may have a vent body mounted thereon. The suction conduit is connected to the vent body. The body has a valve for preventing fuel from entering the conduit from the container.

  • Patent number: 6012646
Abstract: A fuel delivery apparatus for an auxiliary vehicle heater includes a burner with a fuel nozzle. A fuel pump has an intake port and a discharge port. There is a first fuel conduit connected to the intake port. A second fuel conduit connects the discharge port to the nozzle. A third fuel conduit extends between the discharge port and the intake port. A pressure release relief valve is operatively disposed along the third conduit. Fuel from the discharge port is recirculated back to the intake port when pressure of fuel supplied to the nozzle through the second conduit exceeds a preset amount. Preferably the fuel nozzle is an air aspirated fuel nozzle and the fuel pump is a gear pump. The third conduit may be internal to the fuel pump.

  • Patent number: 5085457
Abstract: A method and system for effecting pneumatically cushioned independent front steer axle suspension for s Class 8 (33,001 lb+GVW) highway truck. An air spring rocker is provided to improve the fit arrangement of the front suspension components. By its pivoting action, the air spring rocker serves to take the vertically-directed suspension load and redirect this load to compress a suspension air spring in a horizontal direction, against a chassis frame rail side member. The left hand side road wheel is enabled to articulate independently of the articulation movement of the right hand side road wheel, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4947681
Abstract: A technique for facilitating correct meshing of transmission gears and smooth clutch engagement in vehicles that require driver synchronization of speeds of transmission mating gears. The technique includes an arrangement for ascertaining vehicle road speed, an arrangement for automatically selecting a recommended gear based on the vehicle road speed and informing the driver of the selection. An arrangement is also provided for calculating the ideal engine rpm based on the selected recommended gear and informing the driver of the ideal rpm. During operation, the operator adjusts the engine rpm to substantially match said ideal engine rpm to smoothly mesh the vehicle in the recommended gear. In an alternative embodiment, the dual needle tachometer is used to display actual engine crankshaft and transmission input shaft speeds respectively to facilitate smooth clutch engagement in the vehicle.
