  • Patent number: 6310574
Abstract: A level transmitter for use in a process application measures the height of a product level in a container, e.g., in a tank. The level transmitter includes an electromagnetic wave antenna directed into the tank. An electromagnetic wave source sends an electromagnetic wave signal through the electromagnetic wave antenna. An electromagnetic wave receiver receives the reflected electromagnetic wave signal. Measurement circuitry coupled to the source and receiver initiates transmitting of the electromagnetic wave signal and determines product level height based upon the received, reflected signal. Output circuitry transmits information related to product height. The device is suitable for use with containers having very small orifices for antenna insertion.

  • Patent number: 6175283
Abstract: The invention relates to a microwave pulse generator for generating microwave pulses with a pulse duration in the nanosecond range. The microwave pulse generator includes a pulse generator for generating control pulses of a constant pulse duration and a microwave oscillator generating microwave oscillations. The microwave oscillator includes a transistor amplifier, to which a frequency-determining resonant circuit and an ohmic device for reducing the resonant Q-value are connected in such a way that a control pulse of the pulse generator applied to an input terminal of the transistor amplifier causes the microwave oscillator to produce a microwave oscillation that can be tapped at an output terminal of the microwave oscillator, wherein the microwave oscillation follows at least approximately the temporal course of the control pulse.

  • Patent number: 6097346
Abstract: An antenna for a radar unit for level measurement has a dielectric rod radiator for radiating microwaves in a main radiation direction. A coupling sleeve is provided with an external thread for installation by screwing into a holder opening. The coupling sleeve contains an at least partially approximately hollow cylindrical inner part made of dielectric material that projects in the main radiation direction out of coupling sleeve. A hollow guide system includes an HF coupling device and hollow guide tube that is received in an inner part. As viewed in the main radiation direction, the rod radiator is located releasably or permanently at the forward end of the inner part.

  • Patent number: 6014100
Abstract: An improved RADAR sensor for measuring the level of material utilizes conventional medium- or high-power microwave transmitter and microwave receiver devices, while utilizing only the relatively small amount of current supplied by a conventional low current two-wire process control loop. A transmit/receive unit and a control unit are operated intermittently to generate readings, and are set to a current-saving or even currentless standby mode between these periods of active measurement. During the inactive standby period, circuit components such as capacitors collect and store power to be used for the comparably high-power requirement during the active measurement cycles. The inactive standby periods are preferably long compared to the duration of the measurement periods. This permits operation with power entirely supplied from a common two-wire 4-20 mA process control loop.
