Patent number: 7773454Abstract: A method and apparatus useful to determine the integrity of a cement bond log disposed in the annular space between a casing and a wellbore. The method and apparatus produce a transversely polarized shear wave and emit the wave through the casing and into the wellbore. The transversely polarized shear wave attenuates upon passage through the cement bond log. The integrity of the cement bond log can be determined through an analysis and evaluation of the attenuation results.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2006Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Joseph Gregory Barolak, Douglas J Patterson, Alexei Bolshakov, Vladimir Dubinsky, Xiao Ming Tang

Patent number: 7743169Abstract: A method for processing data in the form of a stream of messages regarding, for example, stock price information, implemented using a computer system wherein the data may arrive at a rate faster than the computer system can process individual messages. Each message is tagged with a phase number as it arrives; only the data in the messages received at the end of a phase are stored in the computer system's database. Periodically, at the end of at least one phase and perhaps at the end of many phases depending on the rate messages are received, the computer queries its database to select information regarding the data. Algorithms, according to the present invention, allow the efficient selection of data by disregarding a portion of the information in some cases, and, in other cases, by finding the phase ranges wherein data messages overlap between phase ranges. In the former, data is lost; it the latter, data processing may be slowed. The selected information is then output.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2002Date of Patent: June 22, 2010Assignee: Avaya, Inc.Inventors: Joseph Gregory Billock, Kanianthra Mani Chandy, Lee Forestt Rosen

Publication number: 20100096131Abstract: A method and system for cementing and perforating a wellbore in a single step by coupling a perforating gun with a wiper plug. The method includes injecting cement in a wellbore having casing therein and an annulus between the casing and wellbore. A wiper plug is dropped on the cement having a perforating gun attached to the wiper plug. The plug is forced downward pulling the perforating gun along. The downward motion of the plug in turn pushes the cement out the bottom end of the casing and into the annulus. The cement in the annulus is allowed to set and the perforating gun is activated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2009Publication date: April 22, 2010Inventors: Freeman L. Hill, Randy L. Patent number: 7681450Abstract: A method useful for evaluating the presence and/or the quality of the cement bond of a downhole tubular. The method involves measuring radial resonance modes of the tubular, and comparing those measured values to the unbound tubular resonant values of a calibration ring. For a well bonded tubular, the measured radial resonance should be greater than that of the unbound tubular calibration ring. In regions where a fluid, such as water surrounds the outside of the tubular, or the cement is otherwise not bonded to the outer surface of the tubular, the measured response should be less than the calibrated response. The calibration ring should have the same diameter, wall thickness, and be made of the same material as the tubular.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2006Date of Patent: March 23, 2010Assignee: Baker Hughes IncorporatedInventors: Alexei Bolshakov, Vladimir Dubinsky, Xiao Ming Tang, Douglas J. Publication number: 20090269849Abstract: A bioreactor includes a fluid containment vessel and a rotating mixing element including radial inflow elements configured to direction fluid radially inwardly of the mixing element and axial out flow elements configured to redirect the radial inward flow in an axial direction. Both the vessel and the mixing element are made from plastic and the vessel comprises a flexible bag supported by a rigid housing. In one embodiment, the mixing element is pneumatically driven by the buoyancy of gas introduced into the vessel and trapped within gas entrapment cups formed on the periphery of the mixing element. As the volumetric capacity of the bioreactor increases, the ratio of the diameter of the mixing element to the width of the vessel decreases, and a gap defined between the bottom of the mixing element and the bottom of the vessel increase.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2009Publication date: October 29, 2009Applicant: PBS Biotech, Inc.Inventors: Chanyong Brian LEE, Joseph Gregory ZEIKUS

Patent number: 7459223Abstract: Disclosed are methods using neutral red to mediate the interconversion of chemical and electrical energy. Electrically reduced neutral red has been found to promote cell growth and formation of reduced products by reversibly increasing the ratio of the reduced:oxidized forms of NAD(H) or NADP(H). Electrically reduced neutral red is able to serve as the sole source of reducing power for microbial cell growth. Neutral red is also able to promote conversion of chemical energy to electrical energy by facilitating the transfer of electrons from microbial reducing power to a fuel cell cathode.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2005Date of Patent: December 2, 2008Assignee: Board of Trustees of Michigan State UniversityInventors: Joseph Gregory Zeikus, Hyoun S. Publication number: 20070075575Abstract: A car seat alarm has an on/off switch that is initiated by clicking the latch on the car seat. (“Pumpkin” or removable carrier infant seats may use a two-part switch.) Initiating the circuit when clicking the child into the seat would conserve battery life. The device would be off when the seat is unlocked. Additionally, if an occasion arose where a parent or caregiver were sitting in the vehicle with a child and needed to have the engine off, that parent or caregiver would simply need to unclick or unlock the child car seat restraint to deactivate the device. A learning or programmable chip can be programmed to the same frequency as the panic button on the key fob. This may be done by pressing the panic button on the key fob in close proximity to the learning circuit on the seat.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2006Publication date: April 5, 2007Inventors: William Gregory, Cynthia Crider, Joseph Gregory, Amanda Johnson
