  • Patent number: 7530640
Abstract: A chair having a base, a seat support mounted on the base, and a seat back support coupled with the seat support. The chair further includes a seat support assembly coupled with the seat support and a back support assembly coupled with the back support. The seat support assembly is a multi layered piece having a base layer, an intermediate layer, a gel pad, a tail pad, and a top layer. Once assembled the seat support assembly has a relief area that corresponds to the tail bone region of the user. The back support assembly is multi layered piece having a base layer, an intermediate layer, a support pad assembly, and a top layer. The ordering of the layers and the orientation of the support pad assembly provide support to the user without any direct or focalized pressure being distributed to specific regions of the body.

  • Publication number: 20060203106
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate generally to methods and apparatus for retrieving data captured by a media device. For example, a method (300) for securely retrieving data captured by a media device (100) includes the step of a supplier offering (302) a media device to a third party. The third party captures (304) one or more media types with the media device, and contacts (306) the supplier for processing a selection of the one or more media types. The supplier provides (308) a key (200-290) to enable access to the one or more media types stored in the media device, accesses (312) the selection of the one or more media types, and processes (314) said selection. The capturing, contacting, providing, accessing and processing steps can be applied two or more use-cycles unconstrained by a supplier of said device. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7038780
Abstract: A method for sensing acoustic energy as the energy passes from a more dense to a less dense medium while compensating for energy level loses that may have occurred along the acoustic path of the acoustic energy. The method may be used to replace a multi-sensor system for detecting acoustic energy. The method includes permitting the acoustic energy to progress from a first transmitting medium to a second transmitting medium, the first transmitting medium being more dense than the second transmitting medium and the first medium being contiguous with the second medium along a predetermined interface; disposing an optical sensor in the second medium so that at least a portion of the acoustic energy imposes a modulation proportional to the frequency components of the acoustic energy on a sampling light emitted by the optical sensor; and detecting at least a portion of the sampling light having modulation in response to the portion of the acoustic energy.

  • Patent number: 6924895
Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical sensor of air borne acoustic waves. The sensor comprises means for producing mutually coherent optical sampling and reference beams, which may be combined to form an intermediate frequency carrier, the sampling beam being exposed to the acoustic field, in which acoustic wave induced density variations occur. These density variations produce a variation in the index of refraction and thereupon a phase modulation of the sampling beam. This phase modulation may be recovered by an optical detector and a phase detector as an electrical signal representative of the acoustic signal. The invention has application to security systems.

  • Publication number: 20020162327
Abstract: A hydraulic system controls the flow of fluid to and from several functions on a machine. Each function has a valve assembly through which fluid is supplied under pressure from a source to an actuator and through which fluid returns from the actuator to a shared return line connected by a return line metering valve to the system tank. There are several regeneration modes of operation in which fluid exhausted from one port is supplied into the other port of the same actuator, which eliminates or reduces the amount of hydraulic fluid that must be supplied from the source. In some regeneration modes, input fluid for an actuator is obtained from another hydraulic function via the shared return line. In these regeneration modes an electronic controller operates the return line metering valve to restrict fluid from flowing into the tank from the shared return line, so that the fluid will be available to be supplied into an actuator port.

  • Patent number: 6457487
Abstract: An assembly of a pair of electrically operated bidirectional proportional control valves and a four-way direction control valve governs the flow of fluid to and from a hydraulic cylinder. The four-way direction control valve alternately connects a pump supply line to one of a pair of intermediate conduits and a tank return line to the other intermediate conduit. That connection determines the direction of movement of the cylinder piston. The intermediate conduits are coupled to chambers of the cylinder by a separate one of the proportional control valves which meters the fluid flow to or from the respective chamber. Thus the proportional control valves control the rate of piston movement.
