Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for controlling and/or upgrading aftermarket multivendor wind turbines. The system includes a turbine controller configured to control operations of the wind turbine, a safety device configured to provide a signal indicative of a health status of the safety device, and a secondary controller inserted between the safety device and the turbine controller. The secondary controller is configured to receive the signal from the safety device over a communication interface. As such, if the signal indicates a normal health status, the secondary controller is configured to send the signal to the turbine controller, i.e. maintain normal operation. Alternatively, if the signal indicates a poor health status, the secondary controller is configured to adjust the signal based at least in part on a signal bias to an adjusted signal and to provide the adjusted signal to the turbine controller.

  • Patent number: 9726148
Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to a system and method for improving speed control of a pitch drive system of a wind turbine. In one embodiment, the pitch drive system includes a direct current (DC) motor having an armature and a series-field winding, a battery assembly having a positive terminal and a negative terminal, and a current-controlling device configured in series between the positive terminal of the battery assembly and the series-field winding. The battery assembly is configured to supply power to the pitch drive system and the current-controlling device is configured to supply current to the series-field winding so as to ensure a field flux does not equal zero. Thus, the current-controlling device has the effect of limiting the maximum speed of the DC motor.

  • Patent number: 9657719
Abstract: A ventilation arrangement for a wind turbine includes a manhole cover for covering a manhole of a rotor hub. The rotor hub is contained within the nose cone and spaced therefrom to form an internal space between an inner surface of the nose cone and an outer surface of the rotor hub. The manhole cover provides a vent opening for venting hot air from an interior space of the rotor hub into the internal space. A pipe extends from a forward internal space through the manhole cover and into the rotor hub. The pipe establishes fluid communication between the forward internal space and the interior space. A fan is mounted to the pipe, and draws air from the forward internal space. An exhaust, fluidly connected with the pipe, is located in the rotor hub and away from the manhole cover by 50% to 90% of a rotor hub axial length.

  • Patent number: 9654368
Abstract: Embodiments generally disclosed herein include methods and systems for calculating incremental network costs between logical city pairs in a network (each city pair being in communication across the network via one or more physical links). For example, the method includes a cost analyzer that, for each physical link in the network, determines a steady state capacity allocation associated with each city pair in the network and, in the same vein, determines a restoration capacity allocation associated with each city pair in the network. The cost analyzer is capable of calculating an incremental cost per unit of traffic for a given city pair based on: i) the steady state capacity allocation and a restoration capacity allocation associated with a given city pair, as compared to, ii) the aggregate steady state capacity allocations and restoration capacity allocations associated with each city pair in the network.

  • Publication number: 20170026362
Abstract: In a computer system, some resources may be protected within an SSO environment, and other resources may be protected in an alternate authentication environment. A user logged into an alternate authentication environment will again be prompted for login credentials when accessing an SSO protected resource. To avoid additional login prompts, credentials authenticated by the alternate authentication environment are used by the SSO environment to identify the user. The credentials are collected from the alternate authentication environment and provided to the SSO resource in the form of a ticket. The SSO resource forwards the ticket to an SSO provider. The SSO provider identifies the user within a user store using the credentials in the ticket. If the SSO provider identifies the user, the SSO provider generates a token and provides the token to the SSO resource. The token is authenticated by the SSO resource and access is granted to the user.

  • Patent number: 9479632
Abstract: Discretely-mobile parameter-sensing nodes, such as mobile phones, may be connected to a remote host. Each of the nodes is capable of sensing parametric values that are internal, and ambient to the node. The values may relate to atypical movement of a group of users, such as warfighters, that are associated with the nodes. Upon analysis of the atypical movement, the status (e.g., health) of a user associated with a node involved in such movement can be ascertained.
