The system further includes at least one Archive Data Node coupled to at least one data read/write device and a plurality of portable data storage elements compatible with the data read/write device, the Archive Data Node structured and arranged to receive distributed data from at least one Active Data Node, archive the received distributed data to at least one portable data storage element and respond to the Name Node directions to manipulate the archived data. An associated method of use is also provided.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methodology contemplating a data storage system having a memory that includes a first addressable storage space and a second differently addressable storage space. A controller selectively accesses stored instructions that when executed transfer some user data sets with the first addressable storage space in accordance with a dense allocation of the first addressable storage space, and transfer other user data sets with the second addressable storage space in accordance with a sparse allocation of the second addressable storage space that allocates a predefined reserved storage capacity between adjacent stored non-sequential user data sets.

Abstract: A centrifugally triggered brake mechanism is used to halt a rotating assembly. The brake mechanism includes a braking surface, a brake shoe, and a rotating centrifugal trigger. Upon attaining a selected rotational speed the trigger releases the brake pad to engage the drum. The mechanism may be useful for instance in providing backup overspeed protection for wind turbines.

Abstract: A control system optimized for low-power operation includes an electronic valve controller for controlling a hydraulic valve and a control interface for receiving operating commands from a user and communicating the operating commands to the electronic valve controller. The control interface includes a multi-function single hand control with a plurality of position indicating elements for detecting actuation of the single hand control, a master enable associated with all of the position indicating elements, and a plurality of individual enable elements each associated with one of the position indicating elements. A controller directs operation of the control interface and is configured to sample a position indicating element only if the master enable is asserted and the corresponding individual enable element is asserted. Other aspects of the control system minimize power consumption, including fast sampling that allows the controller to spend more time in a low power mode.

The system includes a first storage system adapted to be linked in communication with at least one client and with a second storage system, the second storage system retaining a plurality of digital assets. An asset map is adapted to track where in the first storage system or the second storage system each of the plurality of digital assets is retained. A migrator is also provided and structured and arranged to migrate each of the plurality of digital assets from the second storage system to the first storage system, the migrator further adapted to update the asset map regarding a status of migration for each of the plurality of digital assets. A server structured and arranged to fulfill digital asset requests received by the first storage system from the at least one client, the server structured and arranged to consult the asset map to determine where the requested digital assets resides. An associated method is also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for assessing cognitive function. In an example embodiment, an assessment computer receives demographics data relating to an individual and provides a cognitive assessment test to a portable touchscreen personal computing device, for self administration of the test by the individual. The portable touchscreen personal computing device generates cognitive assessment stimuli, receives responses to the stimuli from the individual via touchscreen activations, measures reaction times of the responses, and transmits the responses and reaction times to the assessment computer for storage in a database. The assessment computer receives cognitive assessment performance data relating to the individual, including the received responses and measured reaction times, and generates performance metrics including at least a cognitive baseline for the individual based at least on the first cognitive assessment performance data.
