  • Publication number: 20210256614
Abstract: Various techniques are described utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or “drones”) for various disaster and/or catastrophe-related purposes. An area at risk of an insurance-related event (catastrophe, hurricane, natural disaster, wild fire, etc.) that requires evacuation may be determined, as well as insured premises or assets within that area. With an insured's permission, drones may be directed to the area to collect image or other data of insured premises or assets before, during, or after the event strikes. The drone data may be received and analyzed to identify losses to insured assets that should properly be classified as theft losses for insurance purposes. Insurance claims may be prepared or adjusted for insureds based upon the theft losses in accordance with various types of insurance policies (auto, home, personal articles, etc.) or endorsements to ensure that insureds are properly and promptly reimbursed for the theft losses.

  • Patent number: 11093833
Abstract: Tuned hyperparameter values are determined for training a machine learning model. When a selected hyperparameter configuration does not satisfy a linear constraint, if a projection of the selected hyperparameter configuration is included in a first cache that stores previously computed projections is determined. When the projection is included in the first cache, the projection is extracted from the first cache using the selected hyperparameter configuration, and the selected hyperparameter configuration is replaced with the extracted projection in the plurality of hyperparameter configurations. When the projection is not included in the first cache, a projection computation for the selected hyperparameter configuration is assigned to a session. A computed projection is received from the session for the selected hyperparameter configuration.

  • Patent number: 11092966
Abstract: An apparatus for building an artificial-intelligence system is provided. The apparatus accesses images of a real-world scene and generates an image of a simulated object corresponding to a real-world object using a first generative adversarial network (GAN). The apparatus inserts the image of the simulated object into the images of the real-world scene to produce images of the real-world scene including the simulated object. The apparatus applies the images of the real-world scene including the simulated object to a second GAN to remove visual artifacts thereby producing a training set of images of the real-world scene including the simulated object. The apparatus trains an artificial-intelligence algorithm using the training set of images to build the artificial-intelligence system to detect the real-world object in further images of the real-world scene and outputs the artificial-intelligence system for deployment on an autonomous vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11081618
Abstract: Methods for fabricating semiconductor devices incorporating an activated p-(Al,In)GaN layer include exposing a p-(Al,In)GaN layer to a gaseous composition of H2 and/or NH3 under conditions that would otherwise passivate the p-(Al,In)GaN layer. The methods do not include subjecting the p-(Al,In)GaN layer to a separate activation step in a low hydrogen or hydrogen-free environment. The methods can be used to fabricate buried activated n/p-(Al,In)GaN tunnel junctions, which can be incorporated into electronic devices.

  • Publication number: 20210215809
Abstract: A method and a system of calibration of a first lidar device and a second lidar device are described. A subset of pairs of positions of a vehicle as the vehicle moves along a path according to a predetermined path pattern are determined. Each pair from the subset of pairs includes a first position and a second position of the vehicle. A first field of view of the first lidar device when the vehicle is located at the first position overlaps with a second field of view of the second lidar device when the vehicle is located at the second position at a second time. Based on the subset of pairs, an extrinsic calibration transformation that transforms a position of the second lidar device into a calibrated position that allows to obtain a consistent view of the world between the first and the second lidar devices is determined.

  • Patent number: 11062219
Abstract: A computer solves a nonlinear optimization problem. An optimality check is performed for a current solution to an objective function that is a nonlinear equation with constraint functions on decision variables. When the performed optimality check indicates that the current solution is not an optimal solution, a barrier parameter value is updated, and a Lagrange multiplier value is updated for each constraint function based on a result of a complementarity slackness test. The current solution to the objective function is updated using a search direction vector determined by solving a primal-dual linear system that includes a dual variable for each constraint function and a step length value determined for each decision variable and for each dual variable. The operations are repeated until the optimality check indicates that the current solution is the optimal solution or a predefined number of iterations has been performed.

  • Patent number: 11055639
Abstract: Manufacturing processes can be optimized using machine learning models. For example, a system can execute an optimization model to identify a recommended set of values for configurable settings of a manufacturing process associated with an object. The optimization model can determine the recommended set of values by implementing an iterative process using an objective function. Each iteration of the iterative process can include selecting a current set of candidate values for the configurable settings from within a current region of a search space defined by the optimization model; providing the current set of candidate values as input to a trained machine learning model that can predict a value for a target characteristic of the object or the manufacturing process based on the current set of candidate values; and identifying a next region of the search space to use in a next iteration of the iterative process based on the value.

  • Publication number: 20210192629
Abstract: Various techniques are described utilizing one or more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or “drones”) for various disaster and/or catastrophe-related purposes. UAVs may collect data in an attempt to predict the occurrence and/or extent of a catastrophe and/or to mitigate the impact of a catastrophe before and, if not at that time, once it has occurred. The UAVs may perform various tasks such that the damage to property caused by a catastrophe (or potential catastrophe) may be eliminated or mitigated. The drone data may be transmitted by the UAVs to an external computing device, which may be associated with an insurer and used, with an insured's permission, to begin and/or facilitate an insurance claim process or other various insurance-related tasks. Damage to insured property may be estimated from the drone data, and proposed or estimated insurance claims may be generated for customer review, modification, or approval.
