  • Patent number: 8189596
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the mapping of packet flows onto bearers in a communication system. The establishment of a session between a terminal and a remote terminal is initiated. Information on the session and packet flows associated with it is received to a second network node. A first network node obtains from the second network node one or two packet classifiers for each of the packet flows. At least a first bearer belonging to the bearers is established between the terminal and the first network node. A packet associated with the first bearer is received in the first network node. The packet is matched with the one or two packet classifiers associated with each of the packet flows to determine a first packet flow among the packet flows. A mapping is established between the first packet flow and the first bearer in the first network node.

  • Patent number: 7983244
Abstract: Multimedia calls addressed an increased data rate are disclosed. The multimedia calls use the multicall supplementary service in circuit switched mobile networks and a multilink operation to separate calls for each portion of the total session. The calling entity establishes several calls to the same party. The sending entity splits the data into the separate simultaneous channels/calls. The receiving entity combines the data received from the separate simultaneous calls (multicall, multilink). IP-based multimedia uses one session for each media component. The IP/CS interworking is arranged, if the CS leg uses a multicall/multilink operation.

  • Patent number: 7916726
Abstract: A method for transport control in a packet switched communication system is disclosed. In the method a data packet assigned with a destination address is received at a node. It may then be detected that the destination address does not meet a filtering criteria. It may then be checked if at least one further destination address has been assigned for the data packet. If it is found that at least one further destination address is assigned for the data packet, the filtering criteria is applied to the at least one further destination address. The data packet is forwarded from the node to a next node in response to detection that the data packet is assigned with a further destination address that meets the filtering criteria.

  • Patent number: 7813492
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for establishing a connection to a terminal device, wherein a user capability information defining supported types of information streams is set in a compatibility information element within an outband signaling message, and a capability negotiation is performed by transmitting said outband signaling message via an outband control channel. The code or user capability information may be set at the terminal device or at an intermediate network element based on a subscriber profile information obtained from a subscriber database. Thereby, the user capability, such as a multimedia session composition, can be already negotiated or handled during the outband call setup phase, and a corresponding inband negotiation can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7558239
Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing a connection, wherein a response to a call setup request of a first type of connection is checked by a signaling control unit and a signaling of a second type of connection received from the other party of the connection is monitored. A third type of connection is set up if the result of the checking step indicates that the setup was not successful. The second type of connection may then be set up when a signal indicating a support of the second type of connection has been detected in the monitoring operation within a predetermined time period. Since a preliminary fallback to the third connection is performed irrespective of the monitoring operation, a more common fallback case can be freed from a monitoring delay.

  • Patent number: 7466677
Abstract: In an implementation of multiple simultaneous calls for a mobile station in a mobile communication system, a common traffic channel is allocated to several simultaneous calls of the mobile station, so that the calls share capacity of the common channel. Logical links are established for each call inside a common radio link protocol or link access control protocol, established over the common traffic channel between the mobile station and an interworking function. The common traffic channel is allocated when the first call or calls are set up, and the capacity of the traffic channel is adjusted dynamically during the calls. The common traffic channel capacity is increased or the allocated capacity is reallocated when a new call is added to the traffic channel. Correspondingly, the capacity is decreased or reallocated when a call is cleared from the common traffic channel.

  • Publication number: 20080159313
Abstract: A system and method set specific communication parameters, with the method including identifying a communication relay for allocating addresses. A STUN communication relay can be directed to a specific type of communication such as IMS-specific communication. The communication server ID information is then transmitted to a network, with the communication server being identified as IMS specific. Media flow to and from the communication server for non-specific sessions is therefore blocked. Addresses are allocated by the communication server to user equipment only for specific sessions. Optionally, outbound/uplink traffic may routed from the relay and inbound/downlink traffic may be routed to IMS-specific IP addresses by a policy and charging enforcement function. Also, a time-out unit may re-configure the relay to enable non-IMS sessions if there has been no IMS traffic for a period of time.
