  • Publication number: 20020091860
Abstract: A method of relocating the header compression context in a packet network which transmits packets having compressed headers. A connection is established between a mobile terminal and a first network entity and context information used with compression and decompression of the headers of the packets is stored at the mobile terminal and the first network entity. The context information updating is stopped in the mobile terminal and in the first network entity and after that, a snapshot of the compression and decompression context information is taken and stored in the first network entity. The connection between the first network entity and the mobile terminal is changed to a connection between the mobile terminal and a second network entity. The context information snapshot stored by the first network entity is transferred to the second network entity to be stored therein as the context information of the second network entity.

  • Patent number: 6385451
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for handing over a connection between a first (NW1) and a second mobile communication network (NW2) in a wireless terminal (MS1). In the method, at least one data transmission connection is established for the purpose of transmitting information between the wireless terminal (MS1) and one said mobile communication network (NW1, NW2). In the first mobile communication network, the connection type is either connection-oriented (HSCSD) or connectionless (GPRS), and in the second mobile communication network (NW1, NW2), at least two traffic classes with different transmission features are defined and one of them is selected for the data transmission connection of the second mobile communication network (NW1, NW2). In the method, it is also examined what active data transmission connections the wireless terminal (MS1) has to the mobile communication network (NW1, NW2) handing over the connection.

  • Publication number: 20020038385
Abstract: A method for defining a context identifier when compressing header fields of data packets, in which method, a context is defined for a compressor and decompressor of a data packet flow, the context controlling the operation of said compressor and decompressor. The context is identified by a context identifier attached to the data packet and the length of the context identifier is defined by data transfer between the compressor and decompressor in such a manner that the length of the context identifier is defined in the context identifier of the data packet being transmitted. The context identifier comprises a field of at least one bit for defining the length of the context identifier. The length of the context identifier can be defined in the context identifier of each data packet being transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20020032800
Abstract: A method and a GGSN support node for sending data packets to a mobile station (MS) in a mobile communications system (13) from an external communication system (11, 12). The GGSN receives data packets from the external communication system (11, 12) in a first plurality of data flows which it maps to a second plurality of data flows in the mobile communications system (13). It establishes at least one filter (FI) for controlling the mapping and associates the filter (FI) with the mobile station. It also maps at least one of the data flows on the basis of the filter (FI) and configures the filter (FI) on the basis of information (6-1, 7-1) which preferably originates from the mobile station (MS).

  • Publication number: 20020001298
Abstract: A method of allocating data transmission resources in a packet-switched telecommunications system which comprises a terminal and a fixed network to which an operational entity is defined for defining resources for a radio bearer. Radio bearer resources are defined for the terminal on the basis of an application used on the radio bearer, and the used compression method of header fields in data packets is selected before the radio bearer resources are defined, the resources being defined in such a manner that they also comprise the capacity required by the selected compression method of header fields in data packets. The compression methods of header fields in data packets, which are supported by the terminal, are transmitted to the operational entity in the fixed network for defining the compression method to be used. Capacity is defined for the radio bearer in two directions, if the selected compression method of header fields in data packets requires a bi-directional connection.

  • Publication number: 20010043579
Abstract: A method and a telecommunication system for data packet numbering in packet-switched data transmission in connection with a handover, in which the responsibility for a connection is transferred from the connection between a mobile station and a first wireless telecommunication network to the connection between said mobile station and a second wireless telecommunication network. In the first wireless telecommunication network a data packet number space available for data packet numbering is bigger than a data packet number space of the second wireless telecommunication network. Data packet numbering is restricted in the first wireless telecommunication network such that the numbers of the data packets of the first wireless telecommunication network do not exceed the maximum value of the data packet number space of the second wireless telecommunication network.

  • Publication number: 20010030965
Abstract: A data packet transmission method in a packet-switched telecommunication system. A telecommunication protocol comprises a convergence protocol layer for adapting user data packets to convergence protocol packets and a link layer for transmitting the convergence protocol packets as data units and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets to be transmitted. The convergence protocol packets are transferred to the link layer to be transmitted. A data packet number is defined for the received convergence protocol packets and the received convergence protocol packets are acknowledged to the transmitter. The identification data of any convergence protocol packets lost on the link layer are transmitted to the recipient. The counter value of the recipient is updated to correspond to the counter value of the transmitter, to take into account the lost convergence protocol packets.

  • Publication number: 20010017850
Abstract: A method of numbering data packets in a packet-switched telecommunications system which utilizes acknowledged transmission and the telecommunications protocol of which comprises a convergence protocol layer for converting user data packets into convergence protocol packets, and a link layer for transmitting convergence protocol packets as data units and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets to be sent by a counter and the convergence protocol packets to be sent are transmitted to the link layer for transmission without the data packet number. A data packet number is also defined for received convergence protocol packets by means of the counter and an acknowledgement of received convergence protocol packets is transmitted to the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 5991639
Abstract: The scope of the present invention is an information transfer system and a mobile station (10) connected to it. In a system according to the invention a mobile station (10) is connected to a terminal device (40) e.g. through either a cable or an infrared connection, and the radio parts of the mobile station (10) are switched off. Through the terminal device (40), a local network, ATM-network (70, 81, 80, 82) and a network server (90) the mobile station (10) is connected over a wired network to a mobile communication switching center (100) or to a telephone network exchange (110, 130). When the connection from the mobile station (10) to a mobile communication switching center (100) or to a telephone network exchange (110, 130) is broken, the mobile station (10) establishes a connection to a mobile communication switching center (100) by radio in the normal way through a base station (105) and a base station controller (104).
