    Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for generating a code book for use in a CDMA system. The code book comprises of a plurality of vectors that are used to encode user data. An amplitude and polarity for each vector in the code book are selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio. The amplitude values can be selected to provide a reduced peak-to-average power ratio while maintaining a desired average energy per chip. The desired energy per chip can be based on the energy per chip of a CDMA system having a lower order spreading factor. Performance can be further improved by employing a first code book under a first signal-to-noise ratio condition and a second code book under a second signal-to-noise ratio condition.

The EUDC downlink control channel can be multiplexed with the DL-DPCH by code or by both code and time. The EUDC downlink control channel may be multiplexed with a downlink dedicated physical data channel (DL-DPDCH), a downlink dedicated physical control channel (DL-DPCCH), or both. In one embodiment, the EUDC downlink control channel is multiplexed by adding a multicode channel to a current DL-DPCH and treating the EUDC downlink control channel as a dedicated channel with power control functionality.

The xFIFO engine receives a FIFO command from the register bus and generates a writing DMA command and a reading DMA command. The wDMA engine receives the writing DMA command from the xFIFO engine and forwards an incoming data to the external memory. The rDMA engine receives the reading DMA command from the xFIFO engine and pre-fetches a FIFO data from the external memory. The wDMA engine and the rDMA engine synchronize with each other via the first virtual FIFO and the second virtual FIFO.

This downlink transmission and subsequent uplink dedicated channel transmission have a timing relationship such that no more than one user equipment will begin transmitting on a respective uplink dedicated channel at a time.

    Abstract: In a method for aligning a plurality of physical channels for uplink transmission two or more physical channels may be aligned based on a timing offset so that the two channels are transmitted in the uplink at a time instant different than a time of uplink transmission for a third physical channel. Accordingly, the two physical channels may be code multiplexed with additional physical channels other than the third physical channel to generate a code-multiplexed signal to be used for uplink transmission. The timing offset information may be assigned to the user from a base station, for example, in order to align the two physical channels. Accordingly, an increase in peak-to-average power ratio my be avoided and/or reduced if multiplexing the two physical channels with other physical channels for uplink transmission.

Information to be transmitted is first coded using a particular coding scheme and having a particular base coding rate. Each group of sub-blocks of coded information contains one or more sub-blocks where the number of sub-blocks in a group is determined from current channel conditions of an antenna through which the group is to be transmitted. The groups are then rate matched and modulated based on the current channel conditions and transmitted through one or more antennas.
