  • Publication number: 20110320358
Abstract: Methods and systems, including computer programs encoded on a non-transitory medium, are disclosed for real-time and/or online straight-through processing, including the forward presentment and return processes of checks and other electronic payment instruments. In one aspect, an image file and transit item associated with a payment item received at a first financial institution are generated during a customer transaction. The image file and item are transmitted to a second financial institution associated with the payment item during the customer transaction performed at the incoming system. The image file and item are then processed and posted at the second financial institution in real-time, with a posting results notification being returned to the first system.

  • Patent number: 8015998
Abstract: A method for patching or sealing leaks in fluid systems and, in an exemplary application, to a method of patching or sealing leaks in sub-sea hydraulic control lines, leaks in sub-surface or sub-sea safety valves, O-ring leaks of any type, leaks in hydraulic line fittings, tubing thread connection leaks, casing thread connection leaks, glycol hydraulic system leaks, well-head and sub-sea well-head leaks, hanger leaks, and leaks in other types of related down-hole equipment. A pressure- or shear-fibrillatable substance, such as an aqueous fluoropolymer dispersion, a fluoropolymer fine powder, or any other fluoropolymer which is derived from a dispersion polymerization process, is added to a fluid system such as a hydraulic control line, and pressure is then applied to the system. In one embodiment, an aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene (“PTFE”) particles having a particle size between 0.01 and 10 microns is used.

  • Publication number: 20110214379
Abstract: Panel mounting components and systems for mounting objects, such as decorative architectural resin panels, can include one or more of a twist-lock mounting assembly and a melt-bondable panel mounting bracket. Twist-lock mounting assemblies can include a housing and locking pin configured to automatically lock together, thereby allowing a user to quickly and easily mount and dismount panels from a support structure. Melt-bondable panel mounting brackets can include one or more bonding features configured to be pressed into a resin-based panel, thereby allowing additional components, such as a twist-lock mounting assembly, to be secured directly to a single side of a panel.

  • Publication number: 20110147555
Abstract: A variable length standoff assembly is configured to mount one or more portions of one or more panels to a frame or support structure, regardless of curvature or angling in the given panel or frame. The variable length standoff assembly includes a connector bar to which one or more variable length standoffs can be attached. Each variable length standoff includes a standoff barrel and adjustable extender to which a manufacturer can attach a portion of a given panel via a mounting cap. Each variable length standoff can be rotated about the connector bar, and can be extended or shortened to a wide range of lengths. In one implementation, a variable length standoff can also be configured to rotate with respect to the connector bar in at least two planes, thereby providing additional degrees of freedom for attaching variously curved and/or differentially orientated panels to a support structure.

  • Patent number: 7909297
Abstract: Flexible mounting brackets and support structures can be used to mount substantially linear panels to substantially non-linear support structures without undue stress. For example, at least one implementation comprises a flexible mounting bracket having an attachment interface located on a proximal portion of the bracket, and a mounting interface on a distal portion of the bracket. The proximal and distal portions of the bracket are pivotally connected with one or more torsion springs, so that the proximal and distal portions can move or otherwise adjust to accommodate any stressing. A system for creating a nonlinear support structure thus includes the flexible mounting bracket, as well as vertical support structure components that can be configured to maintain a non-linear shape. Panels mounted to a plurality of flexible brackets maintain the non-linear shape of the support structure components without undue stress or damage.

  • Publication number: 20110064539
Abstract: Washer assemblies for mounting panels to a support without damaging the panels include a countersunk washer and a sleeve. In one implementation, the washer assemblies are configured to at least partially prevent the formation of hoop stresses within a panel, and uniformly transmit forces created by a fastener to a panel. The washer assemblies can be configured to enhance the function, look, feel, or aesthetic of a panel system. In addition, systems of at least one implementation of the present invention include a plurality of panels mounted to one or more supports using one or more washer assemblies and methods of mounting such systems.

  • Patent number: 7866684
Abstract: A ski or ski-like device with an improved edging feature to assist skiers in edging during icy conditions. The edging feature includes a structure and method that provides a lateral edge on the inside of the ski that can extend into the snow surface beneath the bottom surface of the ski. When the ski is turned (i.e., rotated about its longitudinal axis) the extended inside edge of the downhill ski digs into the snow surface to provide improved gripping and control. The edge adapted to extend beneath the bottom surface of the ski is provided either by attaching an edge that extends below the bottom surface of the ski, or by providing a bottom surface of the ski in the region adjacent to the extended edge that is arranged to yield under pressure, to expose the extended edge when vertical force is applied to the bottom surface of the ski during a turn.

  • Publication number: 20100269168
Abstract: A method and system for controlling access to an Internet resource is disclosed herein. When a request for an Internet resource, such as a Web site, is transmitted by an end-user of a LAN, a security appliance for the LAN analyzes a reputation index for the Internet resource before transmitting the request over the Internet. The reputation index is based on a reputation vector which includes a plurality of factors for the Internet resource such as country of domain registration, country of service hosting, country of an internet protocol address block, age of a domain registration, popularity rank, internet protocol address, number of hosts, to-level domain, a plurality of run-time behaviors, JavaScript block count, picture count, immediate redirect and response latency. If the reputation index for the Internet resource is at or above a threshold value established for the LAN, then access to the Internet resource is permitted.

  • Publication number: 20090305072
Abstract: A twisted resin panel includes resin material that has been heated and twisted after being subject to heat and/or pressure. In one implementation, a manufacturer can clamp opposing ends of a resin panel, such as a panel comprising a one or more layers thermoformed together. The manufacturer can then elevate the resin panel, and twist at least one end of the resin panel to achieve a desired aesthetic. Upper securing means (e.g., vertical clamps, rig hardware) at the upper end of the resin panel can be configured to move up or down during the twist of the resin panel in order to accommodate length variations thereof. Upon twisting, the resin panel will then cool into the desired position, and thus be used for any number of decorative architectural purposes. Implementations of the invention further include means to mount a twisted panel to upper and lower support surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20090183419
Abstract: The invention is a insect trapping device comprising a truncated, tapered hollow body such as a truncated cone or pyramid having a nondrying glue substantially covering its interior surface. The glue has a removable covering that protects it when it is in its package or ready to deploy configuration. It may be placed on a horizontal surface with the large opening facing down or hung in an overhead position with the large opening facing up. The device may be sized for different applications: a large version placed over dung in a field will capture house flies, while a smaller version put on a countertop using overripe fruit as an attractant will capture fruit flies. Various embodiments are presented that allow the embodiment to be folded, stacked, or flattened for storage. The invention traps members of the insecta class (e.g. flies), members of the arachnid class (e.g. spiders) and other arthropods.
