Patent number: 10485430Abstract: An apparatus includes a wearable sensor structure that includes multiple individual sensor units placed in a row. Each individual sensor unit includes a first portion to contact a surface of skin under which arteries and/or veins are to be located, and a second portion that contacts the first portion and is configured to have a capacitance. The first and second portions are configured to create a capacitance change in response to a squeezing or bending between the first portion and a fixed part of the second portion caused by a pulse pressure and release of the pulse pressure. The apparatus includes circuitry configured to measure waveforms for the individual sensor units. Each waveform captures the capacitance change for its corresponding individual sensor unit. The apparatus includes a wireless interface configured to transmit the waveforms. A computing system is also disclosed that analyzes the waveforms and can provide alerts based thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2015Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ali Afzali-Ardakani, Kang-Wook Lee, Robert S. Patent number: 10483240Abstract: A semiconductor device includes a metal column that extends in a stretching direction; a polymer layer that surrounds the metal column from a direction crossing the stretching direction; and a guide that surrounds the polymer layer in the crossing direction so as to be spaced from the metal column with the polymer layer interposed therebetween. A method for manufacturing semiconductor devices includes a step of filling a mixture containing metal particles and polymers in a guide; and a step of subjecting the mixture to a heat treatment so that the polymers agglomerate to the guide to form a polymer layer that makes contact with the guide and the metal particles agglomerate away from the guide with the polymer layer interposed therebetween to form a metal column that stretches in a stretching direction of the guide from the metal particles.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2018Date of Patent: November 19, 2019Assignees: TOHOKU UNIVERSITY, TOSHIBA MEMORY CORPORATIONInventors: Mitsumasa Koyanagi, Tetsu Tanaka, Takafumi Fukushima, Kang-Wook Lee

Publication number: 20190011159Abstract: An air conditioning device includes a vapor injection cycle in which an operating speed of a compressor is adjusted to improve efficiency, and a method for controlling the device. The air conditioning device includes an inner heat-exchanger for exchanging heat between a first portion of refrigerant passing through a condenser and a second portion of the refrigerant branched from the first refrigerant, and an injection channel through which the second portion of the refrigerant is injected into the compressor. The inner heat exchanger includes an outer tube and an inner tube disposed inside the outer tube. The first portion of the refrigerant flows into the inner tube, while the second portion of the refrigerant flows into the outer tube. Thus, when a variation of air-conditioning load is small and an injection super-heating temperature is low, the device enables reduction of the compressor rotation speed to ensure high injection super-heating temperature.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2018Publication date: January 10, 2019Applicant: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Kang Wook LEE, Soojin KANG, Hansaem PARK, Ho Jong JEONG

Publication number: 20180214038Abstract: Techniques for determining pulse transit time (PTT) and blood pressure measurements based on stethoscope data are provided. In one example, a system comprises a stethoscope component that monitors a heart and generates stethoscope data representative of a sound wave generated by the heart. The system can further comprise an analysis component that receives the stethoscope data and receives, from a photoplethysmography (PPG) component that monitors an extremity, PPG data representative of a pulse wave at the extremity. The analysis component can determine, based on the stethoscope data, a first time corresponding to closure of a tricuspid valve of the heart and can determine a PTT as a function of the first time and a second time corresponding to the pulse wave at the extremity that is determined based on the PPG data. Blood pressure measurements can be obtained from algorithms with the inputs of PTT or times determined based on the PPG data.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2017Publication date: August 2, 2018Inventor: Kang-Wook Lee
