  • Patent number: 7329694
Abstract: This invention provides an ophthalmic lens of high tensile elongation (i.e., that does not break easily). It is an ophthalmic lens comprising, as a polymerization component, monomers represented by formula (a) below: wherein, in formula (a), R1 is H or a methyl group; R2 is a group that is selected from alkyl groups with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, aralkyl groups with 7 to 12 carbon atoms and aryl groups with 6 to 10 carbon atoms; L1 is a substituent that is selected from ethylene groups, 1,2-propylene groups, 1,3-propylene groups and 1,4-butylene groups; and L2 is a substituent that is selected from methylene groups, ethylene groups, 1,2-propylene groups, 1,3-propylene groups and 1,4-butylene groups.

  • Publication number: 20080004401
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention relates to compositions comprising siloxanyl compounds comprising the structure: or residues thereof. Such compositions can be suitable for producing molded articles, can be excellent in transparency, hydrophilicity, and oxygen permeability, and can have a low modulus of elasticity and/or an excellent optical quality, so as to be suitable for ophthalmic lenses such as contact lenses and intraocular lenses. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20070191621
Abstract: This invention provides a process for producing of a silicone compound which includes a synthesis reaction of a silicone compound represented by the following formulas (a) and/or (a?), by reacting a carboxylic acid represented by the following formula (a2) to an epoxy silane represented by the following formula (a1) in presence of a metal salt of the carboxylic acid represented by the general formula (a2), characterized in that the reaction is carried out in presence of 0.05 wt % or more water in said reaction system. Here, A denotes siloxanyl group. R1 denotes a substitutent with 1 to 20 carbons having a polymerizable group. R2 to R4 respectively and independently denote hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted substitutent with 1 to 20 carbons, or —X-A. X denotes a substituted or unsubstituted divalent substitutent with 1 to 20 carbons.

  • Patent number: 6818719
Abstract: Polymers of high oxygen permeability and a low modulus of elasticity and ophthalmic lenses and contact lenses using the same are provided. The polymers are characterized in that they are obtained by copolymerizing 5 to 90 parts by weight of a monomer (SiMAA) represented by the formula below, 5 to 90 parts by weight of 3-tris (trimethylsiloxy) silyl propyl methacrylate (TRIS), 5 to 70 parts by weight of N,N-dimethyl acrylamide (DMAA) and 0.1 to 3 parts by weight of monomer having two or more copolymerizable carbon-carbon unsaturated bonds in 1 molecule (provided that the total quantity of SiMAA, TRIS and DMAA is 100 parts by weight and that the total quantity of SiMAA and TRIS is 30 to 95 parts by weight), and which are used for ophthalmic lenses.
