  • Patent number: 5758057
Abstract: In case of consecutive transmission of a large amount of data such as dynamic image data, a multi-media storage system of the invention generates and transmits data stored in a faulty disk drive when one of a plurality of disk drives being faulty caused by an internal calibration or an error of the disk drive and the faulty disk drive does not respond within a predetermined length of time set in a timeout table. The multi-media storage system cancels an access to the faulty disk drive, generates data to be read from the faulty disk drive based on data stored in the other disk drives of the plurality of disk drives and the redundant data and continues to transmit data.

  • Patent number: 5528590
Abstract: In a method of communicating between an ATM-UNI and a LAN in a communication apparatus, which has an ATM-UNI interface and a LAN interface for performing communication between these interfaces via an ATM switch, transmission data in an ATM-cell format is received from a terminal connected to the ATM-UNI interface to a terminal connected to the LAN interface. The ATM cells are accumulated in a buffer memory provided in the ATM-UNI interface and assembled into a frame. Completion of reception of all ATM cells of one frame is recognized and it is determined whether there is margin for a transmission by referring to a status of vacancy of a LAN interface corresponding to the other party to communication. One frame of the ATM cells accumulated in the buffer memory is transferred to the LAN interface corresponding to the other party via the ATM switch in a case where there is margin for transmission. The ATM cells are converted into a frame at this LAN interface and the frame is sent to a LAN terminal.

  • Patent number: 5528135
Abstract: A sheet ceramic package includes a plurality of product units, such as ceramic substrates and circuit substrates for semiconductor devices. The individual product units can be separated from the sheet ceramic package by breaking them apart along snap lines. Each product unit has inner layer conductors for providing external connections to a semiconductor to be packaged therein. A dummy part, with conductor patterns for evaluating the electrical characteristics of corresponding units, surrounds at least partially the periphery of each product unit. Exposed conductors of the product units and the dummy parts are plated by means of electroless plating allowing the product units to be electrically independent of each other because of the absence of the need to apply a uniform plating potential. Semiconductors are packaged into the individual product units and are hermetically sealed.

  • Patent number: 5515500
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrayed recording apparatus with reduced writing time. Various devices are used to write data without redundant data and to update the redundant data more efficiently during idle time. In one embodiment, a temporary write track is provided for each cylinder. When data are read, updated and re-written, the data are re-written to the temporary write track. Since the re-writing does not require a full disk rotation, the writing occurs quickly. Data in the temporary write track are relocated into the disk during an idle state, without being synchronized. Additionally, corresponding blocks in data areas can be used for writing data rather than a specified temporary write track. In order to improve re-writing time, the rotation of the disk drives can be synchronized to avoid full rotations between reads and writes, or cache memories for each disk can be used.

  • Patent number: 5444336
Abstract: The present invention relates to an inverter driven lamp arrangement. The arrangement provides for the sensing of both lamp voltage and current. The arrangement also provides for a large current during times of low voltage and a small current during times of high voltage. The sensing of lamp current is done by a current detector that is connected to a resonance circuit whose output is applied in signal form to a lamp start control circuit. The resonant circuit is a series connected resonant circuit composed of a choke coil and a first capacitor. This series connected arrangement is further connected in series with a second non-resonant capacitor. Also the arrangement includes circuitry to gradually reduce the frequency of the inverter just after the lamp starts.

  • Patent number: 5430708
Abstract: A system includes private lines for carrying respective signals which each have at least one D channel for control information, and plural B channels for data. The system also includes a multiplexer connected to the private lines, which receives the signals and generates a multiplexed signal for transmission on a digital multiplex interface. The system further includes a demultiplexer which receives the multiplexed signal received from the digital multiplex interface, to generate signals for transmission on the private lines. The multiplexer and demultiplexer are designed so that the total number of D channels and B channels can be changed without requiring significant effort or modification of either the multiplexer or the demultiplexer. The system also includes a testing device which transmits and returns a multiplexed signal from the multiplexer, to the demultiplexer. The returned multiplexed signal can be used to test the system without requiring involvement of external devices.
