Patent number: 6223723Abstract: An engine control system quantifies engine acceleration advances ignition timing in accordance with the quantified engine acceleration. The control system includes a controller that receives signals indicative of engine speed and crankshaft angle and periodically determines whether the engine acceleration falls into one of four quantified ranges of acceleration: a rapid acceleration range, a moderate acceleration range, a gradual acceleration range; and a range of de minimis acceleration (i.e., substantially no acceleration). The controller then adjusts ignition timing according to engine speed and to the particular acceleration range. In doing so, the controller determines a desired ignition timing by referencing ignition timing maps stored in the memory of the control system. Each map corresponds to one of the acceleration ranges.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kazumasa Ito

Patent number: 6181384Abstract: An image converting apparatus for converting an image of an input video signal into an image with a metallic luster and representing the metallic luster with parameters designated corresponding to the input image. The apparatus is based on the concept that a model of reflected light can represented with a model of reflected light of diffusion reflection and mirror-surface reflection and that even though the resultant model of reflected light is three-dimensional data, assuming that the brightness of an input video signal linearly varies, the model can be represented with brightness data. A color correction circuit 5 has a look-up table with which calculations for generating an image with a metallic luster are performed with the brightness data and the designated parameters. A matrix calculating circuit extracts a luminous signal component from the input video signal. A pre-modifying circuit adjusts the amplitude.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1998Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Masafumi Kurashige, Osamu Watanabe, Kazumasa Ito, Teruyuki Nakahashi, Yuichi Hayatsu

Patent number: 6077135Abstract: A vibrational damper reduces torsional vibration within a crankshaft of a marine engine. The vibrational damper is located on an end of the crankshaft opposite of the flywheel and includes an inertia ring that adds additional mass to this opposite end. In addition, the vibrational damper includes an elastic member that suspends the inertia ring about the crankshaft. The elastic member effectively dampens torsional vibrations. The torsional damper desirably is cooled by an air flow so as to maintain it's dampening efficiency. A ventilation duct, which is positioned directly above the vibrational damper, supplies the cooling air. Cooling is enhanced by locating a bilge system inlet below and slightly behind the vibrational damper. An air flow stream occurs between the duct and the bilge inlet and across the torsional damper to cool the torsional damper.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1997Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kazumasa Ito

Patent number: 5967868Abstract: A jet drive unit is mounted within a jet propelled watercraft in a fashion which prevents vibrations due to the operation of the craft's impeller system from transmitting to the hull. The power transmitting shaft system connecting the water jet unit impeller with the craft's engine is made through an elastic, vibration dampening coupling. Further, the water jet unit casing is mounted to the hull through a plurality of vibration insulating connector assemblies.
