    Abstract: A processing aid for a thermoplastic resin is disclosed, which is a two-stage polymer obtained by polymerizing (B) 5 to 50 parts by weight of a monomer or monomer mixture composed mainly of methyl methacrylate in the presence of (A) 50 to 95 parts by weight of a polymer comprising 100 to 50% by weight of units of a methacrylic acid ester other than methyl methacrylate and 0 to 50% by weight of units of other monomer copolymerizable with the methacrylic acid ester and having a reduced viscosity .eta.sp/C not larger than 2.0 dl/g, so that the total amount of the components (A) and (B) is 100 parts by weight and the reduced viscosity .eta.sp of the final polymer is not larger than 2.0 dl/g. A thermoplastic resin having the processing aid incorporated therein has an improved shaping processability, and a shaped article mode therefrom has good surface characteristics.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a modifier to be incorporated in a polyvinyl chloride resin, which is a graft copolymer obtained by carrying out, in the presence of 100 parts by weight of a butadiene rubber having a swelling degree of 10 to 50 and an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 0.4 .mu.m, first-stage graft polymerization of 1 of 42 parts by weight of methyl methacrylate and 0 to 5 parts by weight of an alkyl acrylate, second-stage graft polymerziation of 10 to 120 parts by weight of styrene and third-stage graft polymerization of 7 to 75 parts by weight to methyl methacrylate and 0 to 20 parts by weight of an alkyl acrylate, the content of the butadiene rubber in the graft copolymer being 35 to 75% by weight. The polyvinyl chloride resin composition having this modifier incorporated therein provides a molded article having excellent impact resistance, solvent resistance, and transparency.

    Abstract: An impact modifier for a thermoplastic resin is disclosed, which comprises (I) 100 parts by weight of a graft copolymer formed by graft-polymerizing (B) a monomer having a vinyl group in the molecule onto (A) a butadiene polymer and, incorporated therein, (II) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a thioether type heat stabilizer, (III) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a phosphite type heat stabilizer and (IV) 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a phenol type heat stabilizer having a molecular eight of at least 500. A thermoplastic resin composition having this impact modifier incorporated therein exhibits a good heat discoloration resistance and heat deterioration resistance under high-temperature conditions, as well as an improved impact resistance.

The thermoplastic resin composition has a high heat resistance and impact resistance.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a graft copolymer resin prepared by graft polymerizing a vinyl compound onto a composite-structured acrylic rubber whose particles are composed of a core consisting of a diene rubber enlarged by treatment with an acid group-containing copolymer latex, and an outer layer consisting of an acrylate polymer having a crosslinked structure formed by the combined use of a graft-linking agent and a cross-linking agent. This graft copolymer resin may be blended with a rigid thermoplastic resin in a specific proportion. This resin composition imparts a good gloss to the molded articles formed therefrom, while retaining excellent impact resistance and weather resistance.

    Abstract: A process for producing a low gloss thermoplastic resin which comprises polymerizing in two steps from 20 to 70 parts by weight of a butadiene polymer, at least 70% by weight of which is constituted by butadiene, with from 30 to 80 parts by weight of a total of from 15 to 40% by weight of a vinyl cyanide monomer and from 60 to 85% by weight of an aromatic vinyl monomer, characterized in that for the polymerization of the first step, the butadiene polymer, the vinyl cyanide monomer and the aromatic vinyl monomer were charged in amounts corresponding to from 20 to 80% by weight of the entire butadiene polymer, from 20 to 80% by weight of the entire vinyl cyanide monomer and from 20 to 80% by weight of the entire aromatic vinyl monomer, respectively, and after the completion of the polymerization of the first step, the rest of the butadiene polymer, the vinyl cyanide monomer and the aromatic vinyl monomer were charged for the polymerization of the second step.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of maleimide copolymers by emulsion polymerization of an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer and a maleimide monomer in specific proportions wherein the polymerization is carried out by charging not less than a specific proportion of the aromatic vinyl monomer and optionally not more than a specific proportion of the vinyl cyanide monomer into the polymerization system before initiation of the polymerization; adding, continuously or dividedly, a mixture composed of the total amount of the maleimide monomer and the remainder of the other monomers to the polymerization system after initiation of the polymerization; maintaining the pH of the aqueous phase of the polymerization system in the range of 3 to 9 at the initiation of said polymerization; and using a redox catalyst containing an oil-soluble organic peroxide.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a non-rigid vinyl chloride polymer composition comprising 100 weight parts of a vinyl chloride polymer resin, 5-50 weight parts of a graft copolymer modifier and 10-300 weight parts of a plasticizer. The graft copolymer modifier is obtained by graft-polymerizing 25-150 weight parts of an alkyl ester of methacrylic acid having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or a monomer mixture composed of at least more than 50% by weight of said alkyl ester of methacrylic acid onto 100 weight parts of an acrylic elastomer having a swelling degree of 5 to 25 so that the grafting ratio is not larger than 50%. The acrylic elastomer is obtained by polymerizing a mixture comprising an alkyl ester of acrylic acid having 2 to 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or a monomer mixture composed of at least 50% by weight of said alkyl ester of acrylic acid, and a polyfunctional crosslinking agent.

    Abstract: Flame retardant reinforced with thermoplastic polyester resin compositions are disclosed glass fiber and a system of flame retardants represented by the following general formulas (I) and (II), together with antimony trioxide. The flame retardant system is a blend of 1-20 parts by weight of component (I), and 2-40 parts by weight of component (II), provided the weight ratio (I)/(II) of the flame retardant components (I) to (II) is in the range of 0<(I)/(II).ltoreq.5, and that the total amount of flame retardants (I) plus (II) is in the range of 3-40 parts by weight. From 2 to 3 parts by weight of antimony trioxide is present and 5 to 60% by weight of glass fiber is also present, these two percentages being expressed on the basis of the weight of the total resin composition. The resin compositions exhibit outstanding mechanical, thermal, forming and machining properties in addition to being fire retardant.
