  • Patent number: 4780419
Abstract: There is described a method of inhibiting glycolysis in blood samples by adding an acid to the blood sample to adjust pH of the blood to a level between 5.0 and 7.0.Collected blood samples undergo glycolysis during storage due to progress of the reaction with glycolytic enzymes with a result that glucose is reduced and lactic acid and pyruvic acid formed by the glycolysis is increased. According to the method of the invention, the glycolysis as mentioned above can be inhibited simply by adjusting pH of the blood sample so that accurate determination of the above-mentioned components are feasible. The preferred acids are citric acid, malonic acid and maleic acid. Addition of citric acid to produce a level between 1.0 and 5.0 mg/ml (blood) is especially preferable. In the method of the invention, further addition of a fluoride compound, preferably NaF, improves the glycolysis-inhibiting action.

  • Patent number: 4524613
Abstract: An adjusting device for adjusting the initial injection lift of a double-injection type fuel injection valve comprises a hollow tubular holder which has one end portion, an axially intermediate portion and another end portion provided, respectively, with support elements for supporting a measuring instrument, mounting elements for mounting the holder on a second nozzle spring-accommodating hollow member of the fuel injection valve, and urging elements disposed in the holder for urging a second movable spring-seat of the fuel injection valve against its stationary seat to hold the former in close contact with the latter. The mounting elements allow axial displacement of the holder relative to the hollow member of the fuel injection valve. The above elements of the holder are so constructed as to permit free axial movement of an elongate probe of the measuring instrument therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4390129
Abstract: A fuel injection valve which is adapted to carry out fuel injection in a double-step manner such that lifting of the nozzle needle through the initial injection stroke causes contraction of a first nozzle spring and subsequent lifting of the nozzle needle through the main injection stroke causes contraction of a second nozzle spring as well as the first nozzle spring. A spacer is removably fitted in an end face of the nozzle holder remote from the nozzle and has its inner end face urgingly engaging the first nozzle spring supported by a first movable spring seat, with a setting load adjusting shim interposed between the spacer and the first nozzle spring. The spacer is retained in place by a hollow threaded member screwed in the nozzle holder.

  • Patent number: 4165838
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle proper comprises a spring-loaded valve which is opened by fuel pressure in a fuel supply passageway to inject fuel directly into an engine cylinder when the fuel pressure is above a first predetermined value. A check valve is provided in the fuel supply passageway which is opened when the fuel pressure is above a second predetermined value which is higher than the first predetermined value to allow fuel flow through the check valve. A longitudinal passageway having an orifice formed through the check valve element allows fuel flow therethrough even when the fuel pressure is below the second predetermined value so that fuel flows through the check valve to a lesser extent when the check valve is closed than when the check valve is opened so that the fuel flow is constricted and fuel injection is prolonged at low engine speeds thereby reducing combustion noise.
