  • Patent number: 8024525
Abstract: A “Logging” method and apparatus is provided to protect control unit cached data not yet written to backing storage disk drives. This recording mechanism copies “WRITE DATA” to a log at a target logically external or physically external to storage control units which are connected to a common storage pool and constitute a set. Upon failure of one of the set of control units, the “Log” information is available to insure that pending “write” data is written to the proper location on the disk drives of the storage pool upon a recovery action. One of surviving members of the set assumes control of the storage managed by the failing control unit by utilizing the recorded information to insure that data not written to backing storage (disks) up to the point of failure is then written to the disk backing storage.

  • Patent number: 7762912
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for practicing pitching a baseball. The apparatus can be configured to receive pitches thrown into a specific designated area of the strike zone and to reject pitches not thrown to the specific designated area. The apparatus alters the position of the strike zone to compensate for the positioning of a catcher behind home plate. The apparatus more accurately identifies the strike zone, and areas outside the strike zone, to which a pitcher should practice throwing pitches.

  • Publication number: 20090031083
Abstract: A “Logging” method and apparatus is provided to protect control unit cached data not yet written to backing storage disk drives. This recording mechanism will copy “WRITE DATA” to a log at a target logically or physically external (to the storage controllers) location equally common to all members of the set of distributed storage control units managing a common storage pool. Upon the failure of one the members of the set of control units, the “Log” information is available to insure that pending “write” data is written to the proper location on the disk drives upon a recovery action. One of the surviving members of the set assumes control of the storage managed by the failing unit by utilizing the recorded information to insure that data not written to backing storage (disks) up to the point of failure is then written to the disk backing storage.

  • Patent number: 7363672
Abstract: An automatic pool cleaner accessory is provided comprising a tubular assembly (6) for connection to, or for inclusion in, a pool cleaner suction hose (4). The tubular assembly includes first and second tubular members (8, 9) generally coaxial with each other and freely relatively rotatable about a common axis in an inoperative condition of the accessory. Means (16) are provided for inhibiting relative rotation of the members in the operative condition with suction applied to the interior thereof. The accessory is preferably used in combination with a connector tube (7) for installation in a suction hose assembly, the connector tube comprising a central portion (21) of substantially rigid tube having at one end a first terminal portion (22) with its axis extending at an incline to that of the straight central portion, and at the other end a second terminal portion (23) having its axis likewise extending at an incline to the axis of the straight central portion.

  • Patent number: 7359844
Abstract: An earth model is formed in real time during drilling of a well by incorporating up-to-the-minute knowledge derived from geology, seismic, drilling, and engineering data. The process of forming the model utilizes Logging-While-Drilling (LWD) or Measuring-While-Drilling (MWD) data directly from the drilling rig as the well is drilled. The LWD or MWD data is sent to visualization centers and compared with other data such as existing geological models, the proposed well plan and present interpretation of the subsurface stratigraphy. The results of the comparison enable experts to analyze anomalous results and update the geological model within minutes of penetration of a formation during drilling. Well drilling efficiency is improved, and an “on-the-spot” road map is provided for maximal reservoir contact and pinpoint accuracy.

  • Patent number: 7081230
Abstract: A vertical, fixed-bed ammonia converter wherein a fixed-bed catalyst zone is configured into two mechanically separated catalyst volumes and two gas streams that operate in parallel. The design maintains the ratio of gas flow to catalyst volume so that there is no catalyst effectiveness penalty. The catalyst beds and gas flow paths are configured so that gas flow is downward through each catalyst volume. Each fixed-bed catalyst zone in the present invention can hold the catalyst in an annular space formed between two concentric shrouds arranged around a shell and tube heat exchanger. The two catalyst beds associated with each zone are situated above one another along the length of an interstage heat exchanger. Pipes or conduits are disposed through the beds to effect the parallel gas flow configuration, or alternatively, annular flows are created via passages through the internal shrouds that contain the catalyst beds.

  • Publication number: 20040099107
Abstract: In a resonating assembly, a beam having a pickup thereon is positioned proximate to a magnet which passes across the pick up at a predetermined frequency. The passage of the magnet across the pick up establishes an alternating magnetic field that in turn causes the beam and pick up to vibrate. A blade is mounted on the beam and vibrates therewith so that when the blade is brought into engagement with a layer of sheet type work material the vibratory amplitude of the blade causes the blade to cut through the material as it is moved in engagement therewith.
