Patent number: 6135002Abstract: A circular cylindrical bearing section for a die cutter blanket comprises two segments pivoted relative to each other at one interface therebetween and resiliently urged radially apart by spring plungers at a second interface therebetween. A blanket section is wrapped about the two segments which are resiliently urged against the overlying blanket section secured to the bearing section by a conventional channel in the bearing and mating male-female interlocking members on the blanket. An array of bearing-blanket sections on an anvil roll are axially coupled by annularly spaced mating pins and notches at opposite axially facing edges of the bearing sections. The array of bearing-blanket sections are selectively slid as a unit along the anvil roll to rapidly relocate the blanket sections to minimize local blanket wear. The interlock members of each blanket section may be misaligned axially with the respect to the interlock members of the adjacent blanket sections.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1998Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Inventor: Kenneth Ray Neal

Patent number: 6010097Abstract: A wing flap structure includes a wing, a flap, and a hinge mechanism connecting the wing and the flap. The hinge mechanism includes first and second hinge links connected between the wing and the flap. The pivot points for the hinge links are oriented so that as the flap moves away from the wing, the flap moves in a circular arc path relative to the wing. The first hinge link includes a first elongate link having a first end rotatably connected to the wing. The second hinge link includes a second elongate link having a first end rotatably connected to the second end of the first link, and having a second end rotatably connected to the flap. The rotatable connections have axes of rotation that meet at a point below the wing to define an axis of rotation for the circular arc of the flap. The hinge mechanism is contained substantially along the circular arc of the flap as the flap is extended and retracted. A drive mechanism is connected to the wing and to the flap for moving the flap through a circular arc.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1997Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Northrop Grumman CorporationInventor: Kenneth Ray Cox

Patent number: 5977951Abstract: An educational computer system includes a computer, a display device, a remote control character, and a wireless modem for communication between the computer and the remote control character. The remote control character can move and speak in response to signals from the computer, thereby allowing the remote control character to interact with the user and with characters displayed on the display device. When a program is run, the computer determines whether the remote control character is available. If it is not, the computer substitutes an animated character that is displayed on the display device. The computer periodically checks for the remote control characters while displaying the animated character. If the remote control character becomes available, the animated character is discontinued and the computer begins sending voice and movement information to the remote control character.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Damon Vincent Danieli, Kenneth Ray Robertson, Timothy Edward Wood

Patent number: 5916346Abstract: A polyurethane layer is bonded to a sheet metal liner and secured to an anvil roller channel by depending interlocking male and female locking members at the respective blanket ends. The female locking member comprises a U-shaped channel member formed from the liner. The channel member has an extension formed of doubled over sheet material with an inclined lip for engaging the anvil channel in resilient interference fit in cooperation with a distal channel member side wall. The channel member is filled with the layer material as the layer is formed to form a solid female member and has a lateral side wall from which a locking projection extends for locking engagement with a mating recess in the male member. A wedge projection projects from a face of the male member contiguous with the outer blanket surface. The wedge projection extends from the blanket outer surface an extent smaller than the blanket layer thickness to minimize insertion load on the male member due to interference with the female member.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1997Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Assignee: RobudInventor: Kenneth Ray Neal
