Publication number: 20080036564Abstract: A method and apparatus for overmolding a plastic shroud onto a bobbin including the step of providing a protrusion ring on the surface of the bobbin surrounding each standoff between the bobbin and a mold wall and extending outwards from the surface of the bobbin. A plurality of standoffs and protrusion rings is presently preferred. The protrusion rings are small relative to the standoffs, have low thermal mass, and thus are readily melted by the injected molten plastic, causing interstitching between the bobbin material and the overmolding material. The interstitching creates a highly effective hermetic seal against moisture leakage along the surface of the bobbin away from the standoff site. Perfect melting of the standoffs is no longer required, and standoffs can be designed to assure proper positioning of the bobbin during the complete overmolding process.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2006Publication date: February 14, 2008Inventors: James Henry, Gary DeAngelis, Kevin Allen, Peter Wendt

Publication number: 20050103900Abstract: A fuel swirler plate for improving atomization of fuel in a fuel injector. A plurality of identical fuel supply passages is formed in the plate, each passage including an outer fuel reservoir region; a region having converging walls wherein fuel is accelerated and turned partially tangential to the axis of the plate and fuel injector; a metering region wherein flow is regulated; and an exit region wherein the fuel is combined with similar fuel flows from the other passages to form a high velocity swirl annulus between the swirler plate and a pintle ball of the fuel injector. An advantage of the novel swirl plate over prior art plates is that, when the injector valve is closed, only a very small volume of fuel resides in the swirl annulus between the pintle ball and the exit region of the plate, and such residual fuel is urged rotationally and becomes the leading edge of a new vortex the next time the valve is opened, thus minimizing SAC spray formation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2004Publication date: May 19, 2005Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Daniel Varble, Harry Mieney, Richard Cooper, David Rogers, Kevin Allen

Publication number: 20040206846Abstract: A carrier on which a string of icicle lights are stored and transported facilitates a common wire of the light string wrapped tightly around a carrier spindle with the light strands hanging from the common wire on the spindle. The spindle is equipped with a handle that rotates on the spindle. The spindle is small and lightweight, only large enough to enable the common wire to wrap around it with sufficient wounds to support the light strands hanging freely therefrom. Largely due to its small size, the weight carried to the installation location is only slightly increased over the weight of the lights themselves. Thus, the icicle light string on the carrier is able to be easily lifted onto on a building or the like, for example, where they are unwrapped concomitantly with installation.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2003Publication date: October 21, 2004Inventor: Kevin Allen
