  • Patent number: 9535219
Abstract: A method comprises exposing the surface of an optical microcavity characterized by at least one resonance frequency to a sample such that a single particle or molecule from the sample adsorbs onto the surface of the microcavity; evanescently coupling a probe laser beam into the microcavity, the wavelength of the probe laser beam substantially matching the at least one resonance frequency; illuminating the surface of the microcavity with a free space pump light beam and moving the focal spot of the free space pump light beam such that the focal spot substantially overlaps with the single particle/molecule; and detecting light from the probe laser beam. The wavelength of the free space pump light beam generates sufficient heat via energy absorbed by the single particle/molecule to induce a shift in the at least one resonance frequency, thereby providing a change in an optical characteristic of the detected light.

  • Patent number: 9386740
Abstract: An attachable trimmer includes a trimming unit, an arm assembly, a limit switch, and a rod assembly as the attachable trimmer is mounted onto a mower deck of a lawn mower. The trimming unit is connected with the arm assembly while the limit switch is oppositely positioned of the trimming unit across the arm assembly. The rod assembly is connected with the arm assembly in between the trimming unit and the limit switch. The rod assembly moves the attachable trimmer in between an expanded position and a retracted position upon the user's discretion. The trimming unit is only operational when the attachable trimmer is at the expanded position as the limit switch completes an electrical circuitry to electrically power the trimming unit.

  • Patent number: 9333398
Abstract: The present invention is related to a handheld tethered ball device comprising a tether assembly and a ball unit coupled therewith. The tether assembly includes a cord and a handle, which can be coupled to one another by means of a swivel. The cord preferably ends in a terminal loop that attaches to a ball retention cord protruding from the ball unit. An illumination assembly is included in the ball unit to provide various light emitting patterns. The illumination assembly is powered by batteries. Batteries are concealed by a securable battery cover, which is secured by at least one screw. The illumination assembly is attached to an aperture positioned between retention apertures on the ball unit, to which the ball retention cord is coupled.

  • Publication number: 20160101843
Abstract: Methods and arrangements to redirect a forward thrust generated by a propeller of a watercraft to provide a non-forward thrust are disclosed. More specifically, embodiments comprise a control surface to redirect the forward thrust from the propeller. Based upon a position (i.e., distance and orientation) of the control surface with respect to the propeller, the redirection generates the non-forward thrust or thrusts. By redirecting a component of the forward thrust back toward the bow, the net forward or reverse, port or starboard thrusts and rotational thrust can be adjusted in fine increments. For instance, by adjusting the amount of prop wash hitting the control surface, the magnitude of the redirected thrust from the control surface can be adjusted. Further, adjusting the angle of the control surfaces adjusts the direction as well as magnitude of a reverse thrust component. The net thrust can be in any direction and rotational.
