  • Patent number: 6942357
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for operating a flashlight using a light emitting diode as a primary light source. The method includes the steps of activating the light emitting diode as the primary light source of the flashlight under one of a plurality of different operating modes and selecting the operating mode using a momentary contact disposed on an outer surface of the flashlight. In the disclosed embodiments, the flashlight takes the form of a relatively small size, generally flat housing having metallic side panels that may be of various colors and have indicia printed on them. The housing has an integral keyring extension enabling an article to be attached to the flashlight or for the flashlight to be attached to other articles, such as the clothing of a user.

  • Patent number: 6916104
Abstract: A handstrap for hand support of a flashlight having an elongated body, a head end and a tailcap includes a relatively rigid generally annular attachment element for mounting on the flashlight body, and a strap having an end secured to an elastomeric generally annular retaining member adapted for releasable mounting on the flashlight body. With the attachment element mounted on the flashlight body and the flashlight gripped in the palm of the user's hand with the fingers generally encircling the flashlight body, and with a free end of the strap looped about the attachment element, the elastomeric retaining member is attached to the flashlight body so that the strap overlies the back of the hand. The free end of the strap is then drawn through the attachment element in a manner enabling the strap to be folded back upon and secured to itself so as to snugly retain the flashlight in the palm of the user's hand.

  • Patent number: 6908019
Abstract: A concealable baton scabbard or carrier for use with an expandable baton includes a tubular cylindrical baton housing having an interior chamber adapted to receive a baton. First and second wing members are attached to substantially diametrically opposite sides of the baton housing and each wing member has at least one belt receiving slot adapted to receive a belt that can be worn about the user's waist. The baton scabbard is configured so that the wing members and baton housing establish an outer profile when worn on a belt that does not deviate significantly from a normal line of tension created by the belt whereby the scabbard or baton are substantially undetectable under an article of outer clothing worn by the user in overlying relation to the scabbard.

  • Patent number: 6889878
Abstract: A baton carrier featuring an attachment assembly that is rotatable with respect to the holder portion of the carrier. The baton carrier can be placed in various angular positions with respect to the attachment assembly on the user's belt. The rotatable attachment assembly simplifies the removal of a baton, as well an enhancing comfort for the wearer, by allowing the user to position the carrier at an optimum angle. The baton carrier of the present invention can also accommodate belts of different widths. In one embodiment, the attachment assembly has an adjustable member whose position along the assembly can be changed to allow belts of different widths to be looped therethrough. In another embodiment, one of a plurality of inserts of various sizes may be selected for insertion within the belt loop of the attachment assembly.

  • Patent number: 6880369
Abstract: A combination handcuff key and writing instrument finds particular application with law enforcement and security personnel and includes an elongated pen having a writing end and an opposite closed end, and a cap adapted to selectively receive either the writing end or the closed end of the pen. A paddle type handcuff key is formed on a closed end of the cap so as to extend longitudinally from the cap. With the writing end of the pen inserted into an open end of the cap, the writing element is protected and the pen and cap form a hand-holdable handle for the handcuff key that can be conveniently carried on the user's person for easy access. With the closed end of the pen inserted into the cap, a longer length pen for writing is created. The writing element preferably is of the ball point pen type enabling use to double lock a handcuff. An external clip on the cap facilitates attachment to the user's person and enables ready orientation of handcuff key when the cap is disposed in the user's hand.
