  • Publication number: 20240421855
Abstract: A network-enabled smart apparatus has a data processing systen, at least one operational system, wide area and local network communication interfaces, and a memory. The memory has stored therein apparatus identification information, at least one service application, and an activation application. The activation application causes the data processing system to establish an internet connection and create an NFC-enabled web page. The data processing system transmits, to the user device instructions to navigate to the NFC-enabled web page and instructions for the user to tap an NFC-enabled smart card to the user device. The apparatus data processing system reads, via the NFC-enabled web page, NFC information transmitted to the user device by the smart transaction card. The application causes the apparatus to transmit the NFC information to a service administration server, and receive, from the service administration server, a service activation command.

  • Publication number: 20240414173
Abstract: Systems and methods for verified messaging through the interaction involving a short-range transceiver, such as a contactless card, a client device and a server are presented. Verified messaging may be provided in the context of using a client device to receive a user identifier from the user's short-range transceiver, such as a contactless card, and sending a messaging request with the user identifier to a server, which may look up client device information and compare with data about the client device accompanying the request. Matching received client device information to stored client device data based on a user identifier obtained from a short-range transceiver provides an enhanced ability to verify that the client device corresponds to the user associated with the short-range transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20240397316
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments may use a contactless card as a secondary form of authentication in a multi-factor authentication for a secure messaging service. The recipient party of a request to initiate a messaging service session (such as a server computing device) may be programmed to use the phone number of the originating device to look up records regarding an identity of a party and their associated phone number as a primary credential and then may require an authentication credential originating from the contactless card as a secondary credential for the initiating party. In some instances, the credential originating from the contactless card is a onetime password that is valid only for a period of time. The recipient party determines whether the onetime password is valid. If both credentials are valid, a secure messaging session may be initiated with the initiating party.

  • Patent number: 12154105
Abstract: Example embodiments provide systems and methods for increasing the cryptographic strength of an encryption or message-authentication-code-(MAC) generation technique. According to some embodiments, a MAC may be constructed around a shared secret (such as a random initialization number), thereby increasing strength of the MAC against brute force attacks based on the size of the shared secret. The MAC may be combined with randomized data, and may also be encrypted to further bolster the strength of the code. These elements (shared secret, MAC algorithm, and encryption algorithm) may be employed in various combinations and to varying degrees, depending on the application and desired level of security. At each stage, the cryptographic construct operates on the cyptographically modified data from the previous stage. This layering of cryptographic constructs may increase the strength of the group of contrasts more efficiently than applying any one construct with a larger key size or similar increase in complexity.

  • Patent number: 12154096
Abstract: A method creates a banking card that may be a wireless banking card. The banking card has an antenna with an open circuit that prevents the banking card from functioning correctly until it is received by a banking customer the card is to belong to. A cavity is formed within the banking card near the open circuit and a thin wall is created between the cavity and the open circuit. The cavity is filled with a flowable electrical conductor that may be a liquid metal such as mercury or galinstan. Instruction indications are provided on the banking card indicating to a banking customer how to manipulate the banking card to cause the liquid conductor to flow and remove the open circuit and allow the banking card to function correctly.

  • Patent number: 12147984
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for determining legitimacy of interactions. For instance, a request for an instrument to complete an interaction may be received from an account holder computing device, information associated with the request may be stored within a data storage entry, and a code including a uniform resource locator to a web application may be printed on the instrument. Subsequent to a printing of the instrument that includes the code, an access to the web application by a computing device of a recipient or an entity associated with the recipient of the instrument may be detected in response to the computing device reading the code. A legitimacy of the interaction may be determined by evaluating a plurality of interaction legitimacy factors based, at least in part, on the data storage entry, and an indication of the determined legitimacy may be provided for display via the web application.

  • Patent number: 12147983
Abstract: Systems and methods are directed to a modified device configuration for disposing a NFC compatible user card within a NFC field of a user mobile device so as to enable continuous proximity monitoring based on a status of an NFC link established between the card and the mobile device. The modified device configuration may be utilized to implement card tracking functionality by using a mobile application, running on the mobile device, to generate a timestamp upon detection of change in a connectivity status of the NFC link to the card. The timestamp NFC connectivity data may then be paired with mobile device GPS coordinates, concurrently retrieved from one or more mobile GPS-based navigation applications, to facilitate card tracking functionality as well as multi-factor validation for electronic transactions initiated by the NFC compatible card and/or the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 12143515
Abstract: A method is provided for communicating with a transaction card having a card data processor, a near card field communication (NFC) interface, and a card memory having a unique card identifier stored therein. In this method, a user communication device establishes an NFC session with the transaction card and transmits to the transaction card an NFC data exchange format (NDEF) WRITE TAG command including session-specific challenge information. The user communication device transmits to the transaction card an NDEF READ TAG command and receives from the transaction card, card-specific challenge response information. The challenge response information is then used to authenticate the transaction card.
