  • Patent number: 11790410
Abstract: Systems, methods, and storage mediums storing methods of natural capital measurement are described. A region of influence for the area whose natural capital is to be measured is determined and segmented into a plurality of segments. A land assessment model, including a system dynamics model and a spatially explicit model, is generated for the region of influence by training one or more machine learning algorithms to classify land use categories for the segments and to determine statistical relationships between state variables and properties of the segment. A flow sequence for simulating a transport of materials between the plurality of segments is executed to update the land assessment model. Health indicators for the natural capital of the area are generated using the updated land assessment model.

  • Patent number: 11730913
Abstract: An apparatus for the supply of humidified gases to a patient is disclosed that comprises a gases supply passage downstream of a humidified gases supply, and upstream of a patient in use, where at least one sensor is embedded in or located on the outside of the wall of the passage. In preferred forms the wall of the passage divides the sensor(s) from a flow of gases in the passage. In use, a controller receives an output of the sensor(s) and derives from the output of the sensor(s) an estimation of a property of gases flowing through the passage or provides a control output to the humidified gases supply according to the output of the sensor(s).

  • Patent number: 11679228
Abstract: A breathing assistance apparatus and method of controlling a breathing assistance apparatus is disclosed. Particularly, the breathing assistance apparatus is controlled such that it has a drying cycle to enable drying of the tubing that supplies gases to a user and prevent the harbouring of pathogens within the tube. The drying cycle is preferably operated automatically by internal controllers in the apparatus. However, it may be manually activated by pressing a button on the apparatus. The drying cycle is preferably activated at the end of a user's treatment session.

  • Patent number: 11679224
Abstract: The gases temperature supplied to a patient when the patient is undergoing treatment such as oxygen therapy or positive pressure treatment for conditions such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is often measured for safety and to enable controlling of the humidity delivered to the patient. The invention disclosed is related to measurement of properties, particularly temperature (thermistor), of gases flowing through a heated tube, supplying gases to a patient, which utilises the heating wire within the tube.

  • Patent number: 11666726
Abstract: The breathing assistance apparatus of the present invention includes a manifold that is provided with or retrofittable to gases supply and humidifying devices. The manifold allows gases from an oxygen concentrator to be combined with the flow through a gases supply and humidifying device, most usually air. The combined output of oxygen and other breathing gases (air) is then humidified. The breathing assistance apparatus and manifold of the present invention provides a safe method to add oxygen to the input air stream of a gases supply and humidifying device and reduces the amount of accumulation of oxygen within the gases supply device, reducing fire risk should sparking occur within the device.

  • Publication number: 20230165993
Abstract: The present invention provides a breathing assistance apparatus that has a convenient and effective method of cleaning internal conduits inside the apparatus. The breathing assistance apparatus is preferably a gases supply and humidification device. The cleaning method is a method of disinfection that is automated so minimal training is required to disinfect in particular an internal elbow conduit within the device. It is therefore not necessary to dismantle the gases supply and humidification device, therefore, inadvertent damage to the internal parts of the device is avoided. The present invention also provides a method of disinfecting a heated breathing conduit and a patient interface.

  • Publication number: 20230137510
Abstract: This disclosure enables displaying of an intuitive and engaging enquiry on a touchscreen of a medical device (e.g., breathing apparatus, breathing assistance apparatus) that a patient is already using (e.g., in-home medical device). Since the patient is already accustomed to using the medical device for medical treatment control, the patient, who may be unwell, is more likely to access the enquiry and complete the enquiry. Further, making the enquiry intuitive and engaging encourages the patient to regularly interact with the enquiry, while ensuring that the enquiry is not overly tedious to complete. Responding to the enquiry can be made mandatory by refraining from activating or preventing activation of a component of the apparatus until a predetermined set of responses has been received.
