  • Patent number: 10696289
Abstract: Systems and methods are shown for meeting wheel torque demand in a hybrid vehicle with an engine, a dual clutch transmission coupled to a driveline of the vehicle downstream of the engine, and an electric machine coupled to the driveline downstream of the dual clutch transmission. In one example, a method includes transferring transmission input torque through a clutch of the dual clutch transmission controlled to a first capacity, and, in response to a desired transmission input torque exceeding the capacity, increasing torque output of the electric machine coupled downstream of the dual clutch transmission to assist in meeting a wheel torque demand. In this way, a driver-requested increase in acceleration may be met under conditions where transmission input torque is limited by clutch capacity.

  • Patent number: 10697759
Abstract: An integrated sensing device with a suite of sensors assists construction machine operators in finding the correct level to dig a ditch/trench. The sensing device includes a gravity sensor to determine angles, a laser distance meter (LDM), and a laser receiver for detecting a known jobsite elevation. The sensing device is mounted to the dipper stick of an excavator; the gravity sensor detects the angle of the stick, and the laser receiver detects a laser plane of light that represents a known jobsite elevation. The LDM is aimed at another member of the machine that moves in a predetermined path as the bucket is rotated, and the distance between the LDM and the target member is used to calculate the vertical elevation of the working tool edge. A display graphically shows the operator the proper dig depth and the present position of the working tool edge.

  • Patent number: 10569760
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for rapidly charging a battery in a hybrid vehicle. In one example, a method includes charging a battery at a first rate via an engine transferring torque to a plurality of motor/generators while a vehicle speed is controlled based on a driver demand, and charging the battery at a second rate greater than the first rate via the plurality of motor/generators while the vehicle is autonomously controlled via a cruise control system. In this way, by charging the battery at the second rate while the vehicle speed is being controlled by the cruise control system, drivability issues related to engine torque production and/or motor/generator torque production may be minimized.

  • Patent number: 10525970
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle that includes an internal combustion engine, an electric machine, and a transmission, where the transmission is downstream of the engine, and where the electric machine is downstream of the transmission. In one example, responsive to a driver-demanded wheel torque that exceeds a capacity of the electric machine, a vehicle acceleration plateau is avoided by transiently connecting a crankshaft of the engine to a low speed input shaft of the transmission while the engine is accelerating to a target speed.

  • Patent number: 10518767
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for operating a driveline of a hybrid vehicle that includes an internal combustion engine, an electric machine, and a transmission, where the transmission is downstream of the engine, and where the electric machine is downstream of the transmission. In one example, while the vehicle is being propelled solely via the electric machine, one or more gears of the transmission may be pre-engaged or selected, to prepare the driveline for an engine start event. In this way, driveline torque disturbance and delays in torque requests may be reduced or avoided upon a request for an engine start event.

  • Patent number: 10479343
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for launching a vehicle in an electric-only mode of operation. In one example, a driveline operating method comprises engaging a parking pawl to an output shaft of a dual clutch transmission in response to a request to engine a vehicle into a parked state, and disengaging the parking pawl via rotating an engine via an integrated starter/generator in response to a request to propel the vehicle solely via power of an electric machine positioned downstream of the dual clutch transmission. In this way, the vehicle may be launched in the electric-only mode without activating the engine in a fueled mode of operation and then deactivating the engine, which may increase vehicle operator satisfaction and which may improve fuel economy.

  • Patent number: 10407053
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for operating a vehicle driveline where the vehicle driveline does not include a torque converter. In one example, a method comprises controlling a capacity of a clutch configured to transmit torque between an engine and a transmission, and an output of an electric motor positioned in a driveline of the hybrid vehicle during a vehicle launch to emulate a performance of a torque converter positioned in the driveline of the vehicle. In this way, vehicle launch maneuvers may be conducted for vehicles that are equipped with a clutch and an electric motor, such that said launch maneuvers mimic those of a vehicle with a torque converter, which may improve customer satisfaction and improve engine efficiency.
