  • Patent number: 7286536
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for early compression of a header portion of data packet(s) transmitted after establishment of a packet data connection. A compression information is obtained from a signaling used to establish at least a part of said packet data connection, and is used for the early compression of the header portion. Thereby, even the first data packet(s) can header-compressed to thereby enhance compression efficiency and reduce delay in transmission-window based packet connections with a slow start phase.

  • Patent number: 7263067
Abstract: A method and equipment for accelerating throughput of communication segments from a sender (30) to a receiver (40) each of which include a protocol layer (30a 40a) for providing such segments, the method in case of TCP including a first step (20a) in which the sender protocol layer (30a) initializes a congestion window (cwnd) to some initial size (iwnd) and increases the congestion window by one segment each time it receives an ACK, but upon receiving an indication of low congestion, performs a step (20c) of accelerated start in which it sets a slow start threshold (SSTHRES) to a standard initial value (typically 65535) and re-initializes cwnd to a new value, and the sender protocol layer (30a) then increments cwnd at one or another predetermined rate—depending on whether the start immediately follows a new connection or instead follows a transfer of an existing connection to a new path—in respect to received ACKs.

  • Publication number: 20070005803
Abstract: Methods and systems for carrying call control information after a call handover from an Internet Protocol (IP) packet switched network to a circuit switched cellular network and vice versa. The IP packet switched network includes a processing server capable of processing IP-based protocol messages. The circuit switched cellular network includes a mobile switching center. • Patent number: 7158491
Abstract: Apparatus, and associated method, converts real-time multimedia information generated pursuant to an RTP protocol into a form amenable for transmission upon a radio channel, such as a radio channel defined in a cellular communication system. When converted, the informational content of the multimedia information is transmitted in a manner that achieves spectral efficiency and low, constant delay. Once transmitted over the radio channel, the multimedia information is converted back into form corresponding to the RTP protocol before being sent to the receiving station.

  • Publication number: 20060126582
Abstract: A method of deliveries data and to a mobile node for receiving data delivered from a packet-switched data network. A first registration of the mobile node is performed to a first network of a first access technology, and an additional second registration of the mobile node is performed to a second network of a second access technology by using an address associated with the mobile node in said first network. An interface of the mobile node towards the second network is deactivated and the mobile node is set into an idle mode of the first network. When an incoming signaling of the first network is received at the mobile node, it is used as a trigger for activating the interface to the second network. Thereby, efficient data delivery via the second access technology, for example, WLAN technology, is allowed to bring down the communications charges and yet cellular efficient power consumption is achieved in idle mode, by camping on the first access technology, for example, cellular technology.

  • Patent number: 7039013
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and network node for controlling packet flow in a buffer means (13; 14) of a network node of a data network, wherein a nominal capacity is assigned to each data flow, and an additional or free capacity is shifted from a first flow portion to a second flow portion when a new data packet of said second flow portion has been received and said nominal capacity has been exceeded. The nominal capacity may be an upper buffer memory limit used for controlling queuing of data packets in a buffer memory (13) of said buffer means, wherein the memory space of the buffer memory (13) is shared between a plurality of channels allocated to respective packet data connections. Then, the free capacity corresponds to a memory space shifted from a first channel to a second channel, when a new data packet of the second channel has been received and not enough memory space is available for the second channel.

  • Patent number: 7031736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose.

  • Publication number: 20060018268
Abstract: A system and method for including aggregation control information in an aggregate frame that facilitates enhanced power efficiency is provided. Aggregation control information may include lengths of frames addressed to different stations and/or transmission opportunities to different stations. A receiving station is then able to calculate an offset within the aggregate frame that identifies the position of frames addressed to the receiving station and/or offset when it can use the medium to transmit it's data. The receiving station may then enter a sleep mode and awaken at a proper time for using the medium to either receive, or transmit data on the medium. Additionally, aggregation control information may include rate information to facilitate aggregation of multi-rate data in an aggregate frame.

  • Publication number: 20050220097
Abstract: An improved scheduling mechanism usable for a data transmission in a packet based network is provided. A plurality of connections is detected, and for each of the connections, a buffer occupancy level is determined. Then, the connections having a smaller buffer occupancy level are prioritized in comparison to the other connections, and packets of the plurality of connections are scheduled on the basis of the result of the prioritizing. The scheduling mechanism is implemented in a network element of the packet based network or in a sender and receiver.

  • Patent number: 6947750
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for providing allocation of resources depending on the characteristics of the flow request. The system allocates resources based upon at least one of the parameters class of service, delay requirement and bandwidth requirement of the flow request. During a call process, the system keeps updating the service rate allocated to meet the QoS requirement of a new flow request, the updated service rate being allocated to a new flow request of the same type. The system learns the traffic pattern and adjusts a current airlink performance to allocate a service rate to flows.
