  • Publication number: 20030130000
Abstract: A method and apparatus for packet-data header decompression, particularly advantageous for use in connection with broadcast and multicast messages being transported through a radio telecommunication system operable according to the CDMA 2000 standard. When a mobile subscriber desires broadcast content from a content server, the mobile station sets up a PPP session for submitting the request and negotiating security protocols. When a subscription is granted, the mobile station receives broadcast content that has undergone header compression. In order to synchronize its decompressor, the mobile station receives a full header from a PDSN. The full header is preferably sent out on a periodic basis just for this purpose.

  • Publication number: 20030123392
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and network node for controlling packet flow in a buffer means (13; 14) of a network node of a data network, wherein a nominal capacity is assigned to each data flow, and an additional or free capacity is shifted from a first flow portion to a second flow portion when a new data packet of said second flow portion has been received and said nominal capacity has been exceeded. The nominal capacity may be an upper buffer memory limit used for controlling queuing of data packets in a buffer memory (13) of said buffer means, wherein the memory space of the buffer memory (13) is shared between a plurality of channels allocated to respective packet data connections. Then, the free capacity corresponds to a memory space shifted from a first channel to a second channel, when a new data packet of the second channel has been received and not enough memory space is available for the second channel.

  • Publication number: 20030105962
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, facilitates authentication of a mobile station operable in a 3G cellular communication system having a core network and a plurality of access networks. A standard signaling protocol is used to communicate between an access network and the core network. When a request for authentication of a mobile station is generated, a signaling protocol message is generated at a proxy of the access network within which the mobile station is to be authenticated. Detection of the authentication request is made at the proxy, and a message is generated at the proxy which includes indicia associated with the authentication center associated with the access network. The signaling protocol message is sent to the core network, and the information indicia contained therein is used to facilitate authentication procedures to authenticate the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6556820
Abstract: A scheme for providing mobility management for terminals with multiple subscriptions. The invention integrates Europe's Universal Mobile Telecommunications Standard (UMTS) subscriber identity module—specific procedures into single procedures, and which uses a common TMSI. An UMTS subscriber identity module is allocated for each subscription associated with a mobile terminal, wherein each UMTS subscriber identity module being identified by a identification code. A location area update is performed by providing a single location area update request message comprising a list of identification codes for each UMTS subscriber identity module associated with the mobile terminal. Each USIM is authenticated separately, and some USIMs may fail, while others may succeed authentication. The terminal and network each build their own Ordered List of Registered USIM-IDs (OLRU) which records the USIMs that succeeded. The network assigns a Base TMSI, which is similar to the current assignment of TMSIs.

  • Patent number: 6542931
Abstract: A method and apparatus for eliminating the inefficient use of network bandwidth cause by numerous acknowledgment transmitted by the receiver to the transmitter by providing sparse feedback from the receiver to the transmitter indicating receipt of packets having headers to be used as reference headers. In the invention, upon receipt in the receiver of a packet having a reference header, a feedback is provided to the transmitter indicating receipt of the packet having the reference header. Thereafter, the receiver waits a predetermined period of time before providing another feedback in response to another packet having a reference header. The predetermined period of time allows time for the feedback to be received by the transmitter and for information from the transmitter indicating receipt of the feedback to be received by the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20020138654
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for selectably deleting contents stored at a dictionary device of a sending or receiving entity. The dictionary device stores content representative of indicia associated with SIP, or other, signal protocol messages generated during operation of a communication system. A selector selects portions of the contents stored at the dictionary device to be deleted, thereby to permit additional content to be stored at the dictionary device. When separate dictionary devices are positioned at sending and receiving entities, implicit synchronous operation of selection of deletion of content at the separate dictionary devices is effectuated synchronously, but implicitly.

  • Publication number: 20020120746
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing a service in a communication network. A service script is used to control a service execution functional unit to execute the service, wherein an execution priority is allocated to the service script based on the kind of service. Furthermore, a service logic of the service may be provided at a service execution functional unit, and the service script may comprise a service description of the service. The service execution functional unit is then controlled based on the service description to execute the service by using the service logic. Thus, the service script does not contain the service logic, and a flexible service script concept can be provided. Moreover, the signaling traffic can be reduced since the operator does not have to update service scripts for a large amount of subscribers.

  • Publication number: 20020120691
Abstract: The invention relates to a service control device and method for controlling service execution in a communication network. A service script for a user is loaded in response to the receipt of an incoming message, and it is checked based on a comparison of the loaded service script and the incoming message whether a service is to be triggered. If a service triggering has been determined, a service is activated in an external service execution environment. Due to the fact that the service execution is not performed in the service control point but in an external service execution environment, the service logic does not have to be provided at the service control point. It provides a flexible way to define, execute, and control user-specific, operator, and third party services combining various service capabilities.
