    Abstract: A slant plate type compressor including a compressor housing having a cylinder block is disclosed. A plurality of cylinders are formed around the periphery of the cylinder block and a piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism. A crank chamber is formed between the cylinder block and a front end plate of the compressor housing. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft rotatably supported in the compressor housing, a rotor coupled to the drive shaft and rotatable therewith, and a coupling mechanism for drivingly coupling the rotor to the pistons such that they rotary motion of the rotor is converted into reciprocating motion of the pistons. The coupling mechanism includes a plate having a surface disposed at a slant angle relative to the drive shaft. The slant angle changes in response to a change in pressure in the crank chamber to change the capacity of the compressor.

    Abstract: A refrigerating system including a refrigerant circuit having a condenser, evaporator and wobble plate type compressor with a variable displacement mechanism. Two passages communicate between the crank chamber and the suction chamber in the cylinder block. A bellows is disposed in a first passage and controls the communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber response to crank chamber pressure. A control valve is disposed in the second passage and controls communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber in the second passage in response to a signal generated outside of the compressor. A control circuit controls the generation of the signal in response to thermodynamic characteristics related to the evaporator. The signal activates or deactivates the second control valve when the characteristic indicates a value beyond a predetermined range of values.

    Abstract: This invention is directed to a wobble plate type refrigerant compressor. The compressor includes a housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of peripherally located cylinders, a front end plate and a crank chamber enclosed by the front end plate and the cylinder block. A piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders. A drive shaft is connected to a rotor which is connected to a slant plate. A wobble plate is disposed on an inclined surface of the slant plate. A connecting rod connects the wobble plate within each of pistons. Each end of the connecting rod is coupled to the wobble plate and the piston by a ball-and-socket joint, respectively. The ball-and-socket joints provided at the wobble plate are peripherally located. A rotation preventing device for preventing rotation of the wobble plate includes a fork-shaped slider attached to an outer peripheral end of the wobble plate and a sliding rail held between the cylinder block and the front end plate.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor with a variable displacement mechanism is described. A cylindrical member having a central hole and which supports the wobble plate at a variable angle of inclination is also described. The central hole has an annular edge portion on an inner surface which contacts the outer peripheral surface of the drive shaft to restrict radial movement of the cylindrical member while permitting the angle of inclination of the cylindrical member to be varied. The annular edge portion is a circular surface defined by the intersection of a first inclined surface of a first right circular cone that has an apex and a center point on the base and a second inclined surface of a second right circular cone that has an apex and a center point on the base. A central axis passes through the center point of the annular edge portion circle and the apex and center point of the base of both right circular cones.

The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements. The fixed portion includes a first race and first ring both of which are formed separately. The first race is placed in a first groove in an inner surface of the housing and the first ring is attached to the housing. The orbital portion includes a second race and second ring both of which are formed separately. The second race is placed in a second groove in an end plate of the orbiting member and the second ring is attached to the end plate of the orbiting member. A plurality of pockets of the rings face one another in generally aligned pairs.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor with a variable capacity mechanism is disclosed. Changing the displacement of a cylinders and therefore the capacity of the compressor is accomplished by varying the angle of an inclined surface of the wobble plate. This angle is varied by changing the difference in pressure between the crank chamber and the suction chamber. This pressure difference is controlled by changing the suction chamber pressure while uniformly maintaining the crank chamber pressure. In one embodiment the capacity varying mechanism includes a bellows. In another embodiment the capacity varying mechanism includes an electromagnetic valve and an electronic pressure sensor.

    Abstract: A slant plate type compressor including a crank chamber and a suction chamber is disclosed. The slant plate is disposed in the crank chamber at a variable slant angle. The slant angle varies in dependence on the crank chamber pressure. The crank chamber is linked by a communication path to the suction chamber. The slant angle may be varied by controlling the link of the crank and suction chambers to thereby vary the capacity of the compressor. The link of the crank and suction chambers through the communication path is controlled by a valve mechanism. The valve mechanism includes a first valve control device which opens or closes the communication path in response to an external signal to vary the compressor capacity, and a second valve control device which is responsive to the suction pressure to open or close the communication path.

A rotation preventing mechanism includes a guide plate disposed at the bottom of the compressor housing, parallel with the drive shaft. A cylindrical block is rotatably disposed within a hole formed in an extended portion of the wobble plate.

    Abstract: A hermetic type scroll compressor includes a hermetically sealed compressor housing formed by first and second cup shaped casings. The first casing houses a compression mechanism, while the second casing houses a drive mechanism. The compression mechanism includes a fixed scroll affixed to the first cup shaped casing, an orbiting scroll interfitted at an angular and radial offset with the fixed scroll, and a rotation preventing device disposed between the orbiting scroll and the center block. The movement of both the compression and driving mechanisms may be inspected or tested and those mechanisms may be readily disassembled so that component parts thereof may be adjusted or replaced before hermetically securing the first casing to the second casing. Furthermore, each casing is provided with a center block forming, in part, an alignment mechanism for aligning the drive mechanism drive shaft with the orbiting scroll of the compression mechanism.

The compressor housing includes a rear end plate with suction and discharge chambers.

A fixed scroll is disposed within the housing and has a circular end plate from which a first spiral element extends. The end plate of the fixed scroll partitions the inner chamber of the compressor housing into a front chamber connected to the fluid inlet port and a rear chamber. The rear chamber is divided into a discharge chamber connected to the fluid outlet port and an intermediate pressure chamber. The end plate of the fixed scroll has at least two holes which connect the fluid pockets to the intermediate pressure chamber. The end plate also has a communicating channel which connects the front chamber to the intermediate chamber. A control device controls the communication between the front chamber and intermediate pressure chamber. The control device is disposed on the intermediate pressure chamber and comprises first and second valve elements.

The rear chamber is divided into a discharge chamber connected to the fluid outlet port and an intermediate pressure chamber.
