  • Patent number: 4627799
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed in which a pair of scrolls interfit at an angular and radial offset, each scroll including a circular end plate and a spiral element. The axial end surface of each spiral element has a groove along its spiral curve and a seal element is fitted in the groove to seal off fluid pockets. A plurality of projections are formed in the bottom surface of the groove at a predetermined spacing. Then, when the scrolls are assembled in their interfitting positions, the seal element is partly compressed and deformed by the projections and the opposing circular end plate so that the seal element maintains contact with the facing end plate of the opposing scroll without the use of any axial force urging device.

  • Patent number: 4626179
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus includes a pair of scrolls each having a circular end plate from which a spiral element extends. Both spiral elements interfit at an angular and radial offset to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets. One scroll, the orbiting scroll, is operatively connected to a driving mechanism and a rotation preventing mechanism, such as a ball coupling device, to effect orbital motion thereof. As the orbiting scroll orbits, the sealed off fluid pockets move along the shifting line contacts of the spiral elements to change the volume of the fluid pockets. According to the present invention, the number of turns of the orbiting and fixed spiral elements are different so that these spiral elements are of different length. As a result, the gas pressure distribution within the fluid pockets is asymmetrical which results in a larger moment of rotation for the orbiting scroll.

  • Patent number: 4604039
Abstract: The invention relates to scroll type fluid compressor which includes a mechanism for adjusting axial clearance and alignment. Adjustment sleeves, which are disposed threaded apertures of the compressor housing, move for and aft, and adjust the location and alignment of the scrolls. A threaded member passes through the sleeve to engage a threaded aperture on the end plate of the fixed scroll to thus fix the fixed scroll within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4600367
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor for automobile air-conditioning system is disclosed. The compressor comprises a front end plate member and a cylindrical casing attached to an end surface of the front end plate member. A polygonal shaped portion is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the front end plate member and a plurality of projections are formed on an opposite end of the housing from the polygonal shaped portion. The end surfaces of the projections are aligned on the same plane with each end surface of polygonal shaped portion. The end surfaces of the projections and the polygonal shaped portion have tapped holes for attaching mounting brackets. Therefore, a variety of suitable mounting arrangements can be used to mount the compressor and the mounting angle of the compressor can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4597724
Abstract: A scroll type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The scroll type fluid displacement apparatus includes a housing, a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll both of which having an end plate from which wrap extends. Both wraps interfit to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one sealed off fluid pocket. A drive shaft is rotatably supported by the housing, and has a drive pin which is radially offset from the axis of the drive shaft. The end plate of orbiting scroll has a boss, and a bushing is rotatably supported within the boss. The bushing has an eccentric hole disposed eccentrically with respect to the center of the bushing, and the drive pin is inserted in the eccentric hole. The bushing also has a balanceweight which causes a centrifugal force which is slightly larger than the centrifugal force which arises by orbital motion of the orbiting scroll and other orbital parts to improve the wearing of the wrap in the high speed operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4594061
Abstract: A scroll type compressor is disclosed having a pair of scroll members which interfit with one another at an angular and a radial offset to define at least one pair of sealed-off fluid pockets of which the volume changes due to the relative orbital motion of the scroll members. The base or proximal portion of the inner end of each spiral wrap of the scroll members has an extension which increases the cross-sectional area of the base portion as compared to the upper or distal portion of the inner end. Therefore, the strength and rigidity of the inner end of each wrap, which is exposed to high temperature and high pressure is increased and the endurance of the compressor is significantly improved.

  • Patent number: 4589828
Abstract: A rotation preventing/thrust bearing device for use in an orbiting piston type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The rotation preventing/thrust bearing device includes a fixed portion, an orbital portion and bearing elements. The bearing elements are cylinder shaped and placed between facing pairs of pockets formed in the fixed and orbital portion. The bearing elements are axially slidable in the pockets. The outer peripheral surface of the bearing elements contacts the opposing inner walls of the pockets, whereby rotation of the orbiting piston is prevented and the axial thrust load from the orbiting piston is carried through cylindrical shaped elements.

  • Patent number: 4575319
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting the angular relationship between the scroll elements of a scroll type fluid displacement apparatus are disclosed. Holes are provided in the front end plate of the apparatus housing and the end plate of the orbiting scroll member. An adjusting member is inserted through these holes and is received in a bore provided in the fixed scroll member. The front end plate then is rotated in the reverse direction (opposite the drive direction) of the apparatus until its movement is stopped. The apparatus drive shaft then is rotated in the drive direction in order to establish the proper angular relationship between the scroll members. While the drive shaft is being rotated, the front end plate is secured to the housing in order to maintain the desired angular relationship.

  • Patent number: 4571163
Abstract: A scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed having an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the axial clearance between the spiral elements and end plates of the fixed end orbiting scrolls. The axial position of the fixed scroll within the casing of the apparatus--and, therefore, the axial clearance between scrolls--is adjustable by means of a locating mechanism, such as an adjusting screw threadably engaged with the end plate of the casing and in contact with the end plate of the fixed scroll. The fixed scroll is stabilized within the casing to maintain parallelism of the scroll end plates by mating, relatively axially slidable guide projections on the end plate of the fixed scroll and the end plate of the casing.

  • Patent number: 4548556
Abstract: A scroll-type fluid displacement apparatus and a method of assembling the apparatus wherein an adjustment member provides proper alignment of parts. The apparatus includes a front end plate and a casing through which a hole extends, a bore formed in the end plate of an orbiting scroll, and a hole formed in a fixed scroll. The front end plate is fixed on the casing and the adjustment member is inserted through the hole and extends into the hole of the fixed scroll and the bore of the orbiting scroll. Then, the front end plate is rotated toward the driving direction until further movement is prevented. The front end plate is then tightly secured on the casing, thus adjusting the angular relationship between both scrolls.
