  • Publication number: 20080298433
Abstract: A cyclic shift of a reference signal is quantized as a combination of a cell specific cyclic shift with an outcome of a pseudo-random hopping, and an indication of the cell specific cyclic shift is broadcast in the cell. In one embodiment the cyclic shift is quantized as a modulo operation on a sum of the cell specific cyclic shift, the outcome of the pseudo-random hopping, and a user specific cyclic shift, in which case an indication of the user specific cyclic shift is sent in an uplink resource allocation and a user sends its cyclically shifted reference signal in the uplink resource allocated by the uplink resource allocation. The cyclic shift may also be quantized according to length of the reference signal as cyclic_shift_symbol=(cyclic_shift_value*length of the reference signal)/12; where cyclic_shift_value is between zero and eleven and cyclic_shift_symbol is the amount of cyclic shift given in reference signal symbols.

  • Publication number: 20070147487
Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods and computer program products for transmitting signals in different frequency sub-bands used in a particular cell of a cellular wireless communications system in accordance with a power sequence and for selecting modulation schemes to be used in transmitting the signals in the different frequency sub-bands in dependence on signal transmission power allocated to the sub-bands in the power sequence. In the power sequence, signals to be transmitted in at least one sub-band are allocated a higher signal transmission power level than signals to be transmitted in other sub-bands used in the particular cell of the cellular wireless communication system. The differing signal transmission power levels allocated to the different sub-bands typically results in different SINR for signals transmitted at the higher signal transmission power levels and signal transmitted at the lower signal transmission power levels.

  • Publication number: 20070070944
Abstract: A method, device, computer program product, integrated circuit, and system are described to dispose pilot sequences (for aiding a receiver in estimating a channel) in a frame structure that has subframes of sub-carriers and symbol positions. Locations of common pilot sequences are predetermined, and includes 1) in each subframe, a pilot sequence is disposed in a first symbol position for each of at least two staggered sub-carriers, and 2) in at least one subframe, at least one pilot sequence is disposed in other than the first symbol position and in a sub-carrier other than any of the at least two staggered sub-carriers. Dedicated pilot sequences, whose locations in the frame are not predetermined, are disposed in response to an indication of channel quality received over a wireless link. Common pilot sequences may relate to one or two transmit antennas, and dedicated pilot sequences may enable addition of third and fourth transmit antennas.

  • Publication number: 20060203764
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and network device for identifying a cell portion to be selected from at least two cell portions each served by at least one respective remote head, wherein respective cell-portion specific amounts of delay are allocated to each of said at least two cell portions and signals received from said at least two cell portions are delayed by the cell-portion specific amounts of delay. Cell-portion specific signals can then be separated based on their time of occurrence. Thereby, a separation in the delay domain is possible during uplink reception in order to distinguish between different cell portions to which downlink signals can then be selectively transmitted. The downlink capacity can thus be increased without requiring increase of uplink capacity and complexity at the same time.

  • Publication number: 20040203538
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmission polarization selection that includes receiving a signal from a device where the signal is received at two or three polarizations each polarization being orthogonal to each other. The polarization receiving the signal having the best performance characteristics is determined. Transmissions to the device are routed through appropriate transceivers and antennas such that they are transmitted using a polarization the same as that receiving the signal having the best performance characteristics. Performance characteristics measured may include highest power level, highest signal to noise ratio (SNR), highest carrier to interference ratio (CIR), highest signal to noise plus interference ratio (SNIR), lowest bit error ratio (BER), or lowest block error ratio (BLER).

  • Patent number: 6606058
Abstract: A beamforming method and device for adaptive antenna arrays including several antenna elements (1.1. to 1.M) in the downlink of frequency duplex systems, wherein antenna weights (Wk(fS)) are determined for the antenna elements (1.1 to 1.M) for downlink transmission on the basis of directional information of the uplink; in detail, the antenna weights (Wk(fS)) for downlink transmission are determined on the basis of the power angle spectrum (APSk) of the uplink of the individual users (B1 to BK), wherein the power angle spectrum (APSk) is modified by masking out undesired regions.
