  • Publication number: 20160234801
Abstract: Systems and techniques for synchronization between in-coverage and out-of coverage user devices. A base station configures in-coverage and out-of coverage synchronization signals and configures user devices to recognize synchronization signals as in-coverage or out-of-coverage. An in-coverage device furnishes an in-coverage synchronization signal upon detection of an out-of coverage signal, and may continue to furnish the signal upon continued detection of an out-of-coverage signal that is not synchronized to the network. An out-of-coverage device may receive and synchronize to an in-coverage signal if available, or an out-of-coverage signal if available, or may generate and transmit its own out-of-coverage signal if no in-coverage or out-of-coverage signal is available.

  • Patent number: 9144067
Abstract: Communication systems in which a fixed size information block is transmitted to one or multiple receivers, such as the long term evolution (LTE) of the 3rd Generation Partnership Projection (3GPP), may benefit from a structure, in which a downlink control information (DCI) format, or more generally the fixed sized information block, can be extended by a small number of bits and still be backwards compatible with older terminals, which do not need the extra bits or may not even be aware of this extension. A method for providing this extension can include preparing a first codeword for transmission. The method can also include preparing a second codeword for transmission. The second codeword can have a code rate that is configured to be less than the code rate of the first codeword. The method can further include initiating simultaneous transmission of the first codeword and the second codeword.

  • Publication number: 20150195071
Abstract: Systems and techniques for joint transmission cooperative multi-point. A set of n CSI reference signal resources are to be measured by a user device. The n CSI reference signal resources include at least one CSI reference signal resource spanning over at least two transmission points. Channel state information feedback corresponding to each CSI reference signal resource is configured. Upon receiving CSI from the user device, at least one precoder is selected for coherent joint cooperative multipoint transmission based on inter-transmission point phase relationship information. A co-phasing factor is derived from transmitted precoders over a cross-cell CSI reference signal resource, the derivation including transmission of reference signals using first and second precoding vectors on two ports, computation of a third vector using feedback based on the precoded reference signals, and computation of the co-phasing factor based on the first, second, and third vectors.

  • Patent number: 9072060
Abstract: A network determines that a first radio node communicating on a radio resource with a second radio node is interfering with a third radio node communicating on the radio resource with the network. The network manages the interference by controlling transmit power of at least one of the first radio node and the third radio node. It may be by sending a command that indicates an amount by which the first or second radio node is to decrease its transmit power; and/or that indicates an amount by which the third radio node is to boost its transmit power. The network can measure a sounding signal it triggers from the first radio node, measure and compare to a threshold that guarantees a QoS for the third radio node, and compute appropriate backoff or boost values. The first and second radio nodes may be using device-to-device communications or a femto network.

  • Publication number: 20150117338
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer programs for providing a flexible frequency location for a backwards compatible carrier in a communication system are provided. Embodiments of the invention enable a backwards compatible carrier segment supporting all or a subset of legacy LTE Release transmission modes to be located at an arbitrary position on the system bandwidth (BW) through a cyclic extension of reference signals, such as channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS), and/or other resource element configurations, such as interference measurement reference signals (IMRS), required for supporting PDSCH operation outside the backwards compatible carrier segment.

  • Patent number: 8917679
Abstract: A network signals an allocation (PDCCH) for a downlink shared channel (PDSCH); and also signals an indication (reference signal RS) whether a resource block (PRB) comprising the allocated downlink shared channel is used for a control channel transmission (E-PDCCH). Examples include the E-PDCCH being time or frequency multiplexed with the PDSCH; and the indication being a different RS sequence (at least one element being phase shifted) than an original RS sequence used if the PRB were not used for the E-PDCCH. The UE tests for the phase shift by blind decoding. If the phase shift is present the UE a) decodes a portion of the PRB for data if the network is using TDM for its E-PDCCH/PDSCH multiplexing, orb) decodes the full PRB only for the E-PDCCH if the network is using FDM for its E-PDCCH/PDSCH multiplexing.
