  • Patent number: 5126053
Abstract: In a method for manufacturing hollow fiber piles, at least one hollow fiber strand is wound spirally onto a rotating drum having a polygonal cross section to form superimposed hollow fiber layers thereon, forming a hollow fiber roll on the drum. Once the desired number of hollow fiber layers has been formed on the rotating drum, segments of a desired shape are separated from substantially planar regions of the hollow fiber roll. Simultaneously, or immediately following this separation, adjacent end regions of the hollow fibers are connected with one another at least spotwise.

  • Patent number: 5094072
Abstract: A metal support catalyst is inserted into the exhaust pipe of a reciprocating piston engine. The catalyst comprises two monoliths spaced away from one another and surrounded by jacket tubes which are centered coaxially with respect to one another with a sliding fit in beads and crimpings of the outer jacket. At an air feeding point between the beads of the outer jacket, air is introduced between the two monoliths in the lower rotational speed range of the engine in order to achieve an afterreaction of the exhaust gases.

  • Patent number: 5078181
Abstract: A conveying hose having a hose wall that is provided with reinforcement is provided. The hose wall also has at least one segmented, collar-like floating member that extends about the hose, and has at least one shoulder that is disposed on the outer side of the hose, extends about the periphery thereof, and extends into a correspondingly shaped recess of the floating member. In the region of the shoulders, both outwardly and inwardly of the reinforcement, outer and inner support elements are embedded in the hose wall. These support elements prevent an enlargement of the circumference of the hose when internal pressures increase, and prevent a reduction of the circumference of the hose when axially directed tension stresses increase.

  • Patent number: 5069120
Abstract: An apparatus for pressing multilayer packs (5,6) by vacuum application and isostatic pressure under heat action is described. The apparatus comprises a pressure-tight chamber with several superimposed stages, in each case intended to receive one multilayer pack. An elastic membrane (13,14) in each stage is used for exerting the necessary pressure on the multilayer pack. In each stage is also provided a plate (9,10) mounted in floating manner as the flatness standard for the multilayer pack and which is exposed to the same pressure on either side during pressing. An upper and lower heating/cooling plate (15 to 18) in each stage ensures a uniform heating of the multilayer packs. The plates mounted in floating manner are thermally insulated with respect to the heating/cooling plates, so that they also remain cool during the heating of the multilayer packs. This excludes a thermally caused distortion of the plates mounted in floating manner.

  • Patent number: 4895112
Abstract: An intake pipe system for an opposed-piston or V-engine consists of a U-shaped collector intake pipe at whose two U-legs individual intake pipes are mounted to the two banks of cylinders. In the center between the U-legs, an intake stub is mounted that points in the same direction. In order to achieve an optimal charging effect, the total length of the collector intake pipe amounts to twice the total length of the individual intake pipe that is designed as a curve with respect to space.

  • Patent number: 4867111
Abstract: An arrangement for the actuation of a gas-exchange disk valve longitudinally guided in the cylinder head of a reciprocating piston which is opened and closed against spring force by two alternately periodically energized electromagnets. An armature coaxial to the disk valve together with an armature disk secured at the same is thereby moved to and fro and stresses a cylindrical torsion rod spring clamped-in at the cylinder head by way of a valve lever pivotally connected at the armature. For compensating manufacturing tolerances and thermal expansion, a magnetizable entrainment disk is arranged in the armature disk with axial play which is threadably connected with the stem end of the disk valve and effects the tight closing thereof.

  • Patent number: 4834590
Abstract: A pneumatic conveying apparatus for conveying loose material comprises a device for feeding material to be conveyed, into a container, and a conveyor nozzle for producing a jet of pressure gas for entraining material into a conveyor conduit. An annular nozzle array or annular gap is provided around the conveyor nozzle, to produce a flat flow of gas, which is concentric to the jet of gas produced by the conveyor nozzle. The jet of gas and the flat flow combine in a gap between the conveyor nozzle and the adjacent mouth of the conveyor conduit, and pass into the conveyor conduit, with the material to be conveyed being controllably entrained thereby. The installation is controlled to operate in the range of maximum loading of material in the conveying gas flow.

  • Patent number: 4659473
Abstract: A process for maintaining a charging medium in a microporous molded article for carrying out material transfer processes is described. A charging medium is supplied or presented to the molded article while the material transfer processes are being carried out. This supply takes place on a part of the surface of the molded article which does not participate in the material transfer process. The molded articles are preferably membranes. The process compensates for a loss of medium in the pores of the molded article without requiring the material transfer process to be interrupted. An apparatus suitable for carrying out the process is also described. The process may advantageously be used inter alia for controlled release or slow release processes and processes for facilitated or coupled transport of metal ions.

  • Patent number: 4484624
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the transfer of heat by means of hollow filaments which extend in the form of a helix and/or a spiral and are provided in more than two layers. The apparatus may be made up of a multilayer winding. The outer diameter of the hollow filaments is preferably 0.05-1 mm and the wall thickness is 5-20% of the outer diameter. The invention also relates to the use of this heat exchanger in various heating systems.

  • Patent number: 4343602
Abstract: A gear pump with reduced power requirement for conveying viscous liquids, especially thermoplastic fiber-forming polymer melts or a viscose spinning liquid, with intermeshed gear wheels rotatably mounted on parallel shafts while encased or circumscribed in a pump housing, i.e. enclosed on either side of the gear wheels and around the periphery thereof with an inlet opening for liquid feed means leading into the meshed point or area where the gear wheels disengage or become unmeshed and with an outlet opening for liquid discharge means leading away from the meshing point or area where the gear wheels engage or become meshed, the liquid thus being conveyed by the gear teeth from the inlet opening on one side of the meshing point around the outer portion of each gear to the outlet opening on the other side of the meshing point. A normal pressure-sealing or backflow-inhibiting radial gap is provided over at least a portion of each gear wheel periphery, i.e.

  • Patent number: 4332339
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting webs of photographic material or the like has a web supply roll from which the web is pulled by a pull-off device. According to the invention a tilt arm is mounted intermediate the supply roll and the pull-off device and carries a roller at one end about which the web is drawn off, causing the arm to tilt. Tilting is resisted by a spring acting upon the other end of the arm. An arrangement is provided for varying the resisting force of the spring as a function of the tilted position of the arm.

  • Patent number: 3974320
Abstract: A synthetic leather consisting essentially of three adherent microporous polyurethane layers, including a first base layer of a polyurethane impregnated fibrous fleece or web, a second or intermediate polyurethane layer containing 3-30% by weight of very finely divided insoluble solid particles with an individual volume is less than 2.times.10.sup..sup.-2 mm..sup.3 and with a maximum length generally below about 0.3 mm., preferably less than 0.1 mm., and a third or cover polyurethane layer which can be finished in a conventional manner. The product is especially distinguished by a smooth and uniform surface resistant to the "orange peel" effect. The method is distinguished by the application of the intermediate layer before the base layer is completely coagulated or solidified in the formation of the microporous structure.
