  • Patent number: 5652824
Abstract: A reproduction apparatus is designed to select and decode speech and subtitles (characters) in a given language from a disk on which various types of information are recorded in different languages. This system arrangement makes it possible to standardize the manufacture of disks and reproduction apparatuses world-wide, resulting in a reduction in production cost. In a disk 100, various types of information are recorded in different languages along with video information. A reproduction apparatus selects information in a given language from the reproduced information using a data string processing section 203, a system control section 204, and an operator section 205, and supplies the selected pieces of information to each of a video processing section 206, a subtitle decoder 211, and an audio processing section 213.

  • Patent number: 5642381
Abstract: A signal equalizer for equalizing a waveform of a digital data sequence includes a discriminator for discriminating average measuement levels at plural frequencies of the digital data sequence. It also includes an error operating unit for finding the ratio or difference between an equalizing target average level which correspond to the plural frequencies that has been found in advance and an average level obtained by the discriminator. The signal equalizer further includes a controller for controlling an equalizing characteristic of the equalizer based on the error information obtained by the error operating unit.

  • Patent number: 5630006
Abstract: A multi-scene recording disk and a data reproducing apparatus which enables a user to select and enjoy one of simultaneously proceeding scenes, and also enables a program editor to edit programs using a new concept and novel fashion. Related program movements, each consisting of program bars, are recorded on the disk 100. The data reproducing apparatus includes a data string processing section 203, a system control section 204, an operator panel 205, a video processing section 206, and audio processing sections 211 and 213. The sections 203 and 204 and the panel 205 select any one of the program movements and switch one movement to another, and select any one of the program bars of the movement selected and switch one bar to another. The information thus selected is supplied to the video processing section 206 and the audio processing sections 211 and 213.

  • Patent number: 5579003
Abstract: A digital data modulation system having, a separator for separating a consecutive binary data sequence to four-bit code-words, a four-to-nine ([4,9]) converter for converting the four-bit code-words into nine-bit modulated code-words and a code selector for selecting a code among nine-bit code-words containing minimum three bits of "0" between a preceeding bit of "1" and its following bit of "1" so that there should not be less than two consecutive bits of "0" between a selecting code and a modulated code-word which is to be converted later by the [4,9] converter.
