Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an MBMS service to a plurality of cells in a mobile communication system are provided. In a mobile communication system including an RNC for providing an MBMS service and a plurality of Node Bs connected to the RNC, for providing the MBMS service to UEs within a plurality of cells. The RNC is configured to have a plurality of lower-layer entities corresponding to the cells. An RLC and PDCP entity that area common to the cells, receive MBMS data from an upper layer and transmit, upon receiving a request from one of the lower-layer entities, the MBMS data to the lower-layer entity. Therefore, the RNC can provide the MBMS service more efficiently, and unnecessary consumption of system resources is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20050026607
Abstract: A method for ciphering MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) data in a wired/wireless communication system is provided. The MBMS service enables the same service or desired services to be provided to a number of users. In the ciphering method, a ciphering key for encoding MBMS data is previously provided to an authorized UE, and the authorized UE is informed of when MBMS data encoded using the ciphering key is to be transmitted, thereby preventing unauthorized UEs from illegally receiving the MBMS service.

  • Publication number: 20050020260
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving MBMS control information in an MBMS mobile communication system are provided. An RNC transmits MBMS control information for an MBMS service on an MCCH mapped to one of a plurality of CCPCHs available in a cell of the mobile communication system, and transmits a paging message on a logical channel mapped to each of the CCPCHs. Here, the paging message requests reception of the MBMS control information. A UE monitors one of the plurality of the CCPCHs, receives the paging message on the monitored CCPCH, switches to the CCPCH having the MCCH, and receives the MBMS control information on the switched to CCPCH. Therefore, resource consumption is minimized in transmitting MBMS control information in a cell and the reception reliability of the MBMS control information in the UE is increased.

  • Publication number: 20040253959
Abstract: A paging system and method for use in a multimedia/broadcast multicast service (MBMS). The paging system checks a paging indicator channel of a UE (User Equipment), and determines whether there is a paging signal associated with a broadcast service. If the paging signal associated with the broadcast service is detected, the paging system recognizes the channel information indicative of the paging fact, checks paging information included in an ID for differentiating between the broadcast service and other broadcast services and a paging response indicator adapted to determine a transmission channel scheme of the broadcast service, establishes a radio link, and receives control information using the radio link. The base station controller adapted to manage a cell including the UE transmits MBMS transmission scheme information to the UE in advance using the paging information, resulting in maximum use efficiency of RRC (Radio Resource Controller) resources.

  • Publication number: 20040227618
Abstract: A method of paging UEs(User Equipments) on a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) service basis in a mobile communication system supporting MBMS. To receive a PCH (Paging Channel) using a plurality of PICHs (Paging Indicator Channels) in a mobile communication system having a plurality of PCHs transmitted in every predetermined periods, for paging UEs requesting a broadcasting service, and the plurality of PICHs transmitted between first and second successive PCHs among the plurality of PCHs. A UE receives a PICH assigned to the UE if the PICH is among the plurality of PIs, determines whether the second PCH corresponding to the broadcasting service will be transmitted by a broadcasting service PI set in an unused part of the received PICH, and receives the second PCH destined commonly for all UEs that determine that the second PCH will be transmitted to the UEs among UEs that receive the PICH.

  • Publication number: 20040146019
Abstract: A method for controlling random accesses of user equipments (UEs) in a mobile communication system. The mobile communication system includes Node-Bs for performing radio communication with the UEs located in a number of cells, a radio network controller (RNC) for controlling the Node-Bs and a service node for connecting the RNC to a core network (CN), and transmits broadcast/multicast service data from the CN to the UEs through the RNC. The service node provides information indicating the number of UEs associated with group signaling to the RNC that controls packet data service for the UEs. When the UEs respond to the group signaling, the RNC refers to the number of UEs associated with the group signaling located in a specific cell, calculates a back-off window value indicating a back-off range necessary for controlling the random accesses of the UEs, contains the calculated back-off window value in a group signaling message, and transmits the group signaling message to the UEs.

  • Publication number: 20040087320
Abstract: A control message transmitting/receiving method in an MBMS-supporting mobile communication system. In the present invention, an RNC periodically transmits control messages related to MBMS RB setup to UEs. Thus, although a UE initially fails to receive an intended MBMS service, it can set up an MBMS RB by receiving a related retransmitted control message. Also, the RNC periodically provides information about ongoing MBMS services on a cell basis so that a UE can decide whether its requested MBMS service is in progress and request information required to set up an MBMS RB for the MBMS service to the RNC by individual signaling.

  • Publication number: 20040022218
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) service between an RNC and a Node B in a mobile communication system including multiple UEs, the Node B having multiple cells, and the RNC for controlling the Node B. The RNC transmits a request message including first information that can be determined according to services and second information that can be determined according to cells, to the Node B in order to support the MBMS service. The Node B generates a service context for providing an MBMS service according to the first information and the second information of the request message, and allocates identification information of the service context. The Node B sets up a transport bearer to the Node B according to the first information in the service context, and then, if the MBMS service data is received from the RNC over the transport bearer, transmits the received MBMS data to the respective cells so that the UEs receive the MBMS data.

A UE, as it moves from an NB-TDD Node B to a GSM cell, receives a measurement control message from the NB-TDD Node B. The UE then measures the strength of a signal received from the GSM cell and verifies its identification for a predetermined measuring time. If the UE successfully verifies the identification of the GSM cell for the measuring time, it reports the signal strength measurement and the verified GSM cell identification to the NB-TDD Node B.
