  • Patent number: 6844957
Abstract: A structure and fabrication technology for a reflective, ambient light, low cost display is described incorporating a plurality of cells laid out side by side and stacked as many as three levels on top of each other. Each stack of three cells being driven by an array of TFT's positioned on the bottom layer. Each cell comprises a light transmitting front window, three levels of individual cells RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) stacked on top of each other, each level having its own individual electrode, each electrode being connected by vertical conducting via holes running through each transparent dielectric spacert and being connected to a individual TFT. The bottom panel having a reflective surface so as to provide maximum reflectivity of the ambient light. Placed under the reflective surface is an array of TFT's which provide the electrical impulses necessary to set each individual potential in each vertically stacked cell with respect to ground potential.

  • Patent number: 5266897
Abstract: Tunneling microscopy can be used to observe simultaneously the topography of a sample surface that is conductive and data related to the magnetic field near the surface. A tunneling microscope apparatus has a cantilever supporting a tip which has a magnetic moment. To use the apparatus according to a first preferred method, a magnetic field alternating at a predetermined frequency is produced by the sample near the sample surface to vibrate the tip by a magnetic interaction with the magnetic moment. To use the apparatus according to a second preferred method, the direction of the magnetic moment of the tip is switched at a predetermined frequency to vibrate the tip by creating an interaction between the magnetic moment and a magnetic field of the sample. For both preferred methods, the tip is maintained at a distance from the sample surface so as to permit a tunneling current to flow.

  • Patent number: 4873599
Abstract: A magnetic recording head assembly for perpendicular magnetic recording for the type in which both the main magnetic pole and auxiliary magnetic pole are on the same side of the magnetic medium. The auxiliary magnetic pole is made from a material having the property that the permeability varies in direction of relative movement between the magnetic recording medium and the magnetic head assembly, with the permeability progressively increasing from each edge to the center of the auxiliary magnetic pole.
