Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided to remove biopsy specimens from a bone and/or associated bone marrow using a powered drive and an intraosseous (IO) needle set. The powered driver may rotate the IO needle set at an optimum speed to obtain a biopsy sample of bone and/or bone marrow. Apparatus and methods may also be provided for aspiration of bone marrow and/or stem cell transplant procedures. The apparatus may include a powered driver, a coupler assembly, a containment bag or sterile sleeve and various IO needles and IO needle sets with associated hubs and/or hub assemblies. Each IO needle set may include a cannula or catheter and an associated trocar stylet with respective tips operable to penetrate a bone and/or bone marrow with minimum trauma to a patient. Each hub assembly may be used to releasably dispose a respective stylet within an associated generally hollow cannula. Some coupler assemblies and/or hub assemblies may also be used with manual drivers.

The hollow drive shaft includes a first end operable to penetrate the bone and a second end operable to allow retrieval of portions of bone and bone marrow. The apparatus also includes a removable trocar. The removable trocar includes an inner channel operable to convey portions of bone and bone marrow. The gear assembly is able to engage and rotate the hollow drive shaft. A motor operable to drive the hollow drive shaft into the bone marrow by rotation of the hollow drive shaft and a power supply and associated circuitry operable to power the motor are also included.

Abstract: A blend of triglycerides having the general formula CH2(OOC-R1)—CH(OOC—R2)—CH2(OOC—R3), wherein at least about 50% of the R1, R2 and R3 groups have a chain length of C19 or more. The blend of triglycerides has less than about 50 parts per billion (ppb) of trimethyl amine, that is, they are substantially odor free. Also provided is a process for preparing an enriched blend of triglycerides by taking an oil comprising a mixture of polyunsaturated fatty acids and reacting the oil with a lower alcohol to form a mixture of esters. The mixture of esters is then distilled to remove a portion of the esters having a chain length of about C18 and below to form an enriched stream of enriched esters having at least about 50% of the esters with chain length of about C20 or more. The enriched stream of esters is then reacted with glycerine to form a triglyceride mixture, wherein the triglyceride mixture has less than about 10%, by weight of diglycerides and less than about 5%, by weight monoglycerides.

Abstract: This invention relates to foam insulating products, particularly extruded polystyrene foam, with increasing the cell orientation and reducing cell anisotropic ratio, as well as the process method for making the products thereof for improving the insulating properties and for reducing the manufacturing cost of the foam products. Alternatively, foam insulating products having increased cell compressive strength may be made by decreasing the cell orientation and increasing the cell anisotropic ratio.

Abstract: This invention relates to foam insulating products, particularly extruded polystyrene foam, with increasing the cell orientation and reducing cell anisotropic ratio, as well as the process method for making the products thereof for improving the insulating properties and for reducing the manufacturing cost of the foam products. Alternatively, foam insulating products having increased cell compressive strength may be made by decreasing the cell orientation and increasing the cell anisotropic ratio.

Abstract: A method of controlling obesity by injecting bio-compatible bulking material into the pyloric sphincter area of the stomach. The injection of this material bulks the pyloric sphincter, retarding stomach emptying and producing a feeling of satiation in the patient. The method may be supplemental and augmented by inducing flacid paralysis of the stomach by injecting botulinum toxin into the muscle tissue of the antrum or fundus of the stomach.

Abstract: Kits carrying various components and devices are provided for use in obtaining access to a patient's vascular system. Various methods and procedures may be used to treat both emergency and more routine conditions using the contents of such kits. For example, such kits may contain various types of intraosseous (IO) devices including, but not limited to, drivers, penetrator assemblies, IO needles and other related components. Intravenous (IV) devices such as syringes, needles, IV bags, tubing and other related components for use in obtaining access to portions of a patient's vascular system may be included. Various types of connectors for communicating fluids with and/or monitoring a patient's vascular system may be provided. Such kits may contain medications, drugs and fluids used to treat a wide variety of both acute and chronic diseases and conditions.

Abstract: Given a situation where a projected laser line appears to have terminated or faded as it intersects with a work-surface (e.g., a wall), a fan-out redirecting means is used to capture and redirect energy radiating above and parallel to, or radiating away from the given work-surface area, where the captured energy is from a line projector mounted to the surface. The radiation capturing and redirecting means aims the captured energy at a greater angle towards the work-surface so that the redirected light is thereafter reflected back to a user to give the perception that a line of enhanced intensity or reborn existence is being created on the work-surface or on a reflective overlayer placed against the work-surface. The radiation capturing and redirecting means may include one or both of optically refractive means and optically reflective means (e.g., lens and mirrors) for performing the capturing and/or redirecting functions.

The removable trocar may have an inner channel and a side port communicating with the inner channel. The removable trocar may have a first end operable to penetrate bone and bone marrow.
