  • Patent number: 9534938
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically measuring and storing a various measured values of an item, or a sequence of measured values of one or more item(s) suitable for single-handed use by a user. In particular, the present invention relates to a mobile computing device with one or more sensors for determining when to measure and record a particular value of one or more items. The mobile computing device may automatically measure the values based on sensing a change in the temperature value or through using proximity as detected by one or more onboard sensors. Additionally, the mobile computing device may automatically measure the values based on coming within range of an external proximity device. In response to automatically measuring the values, the measured values are stored along with additional information for record keeping purposes.

  • Publication number: 20160379120
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for processing a knowledge canvassing request. The mechanisms receive a request specifying an entity of interest from an originator of the request and analyze the request to extract a feature of the request. The mechanisms determine whether the request is a targeted natural language question to be answered or a knowledge canvassing request, based on the extracted feature. In response to determining that the request is a knowledge canvassing request, the mechanisms process the request by identifying entities represented in a knowledge graph data structure as being related to the entity of interest. The mechanisms output results of the processing of the request to the originator of the request.

  • Publication number: 20160203412
Abstract: An approach is provided in which a knowledge manager identifies a first cohort type and a second cohort type corresponding to an entity included in a question. The knowledge manager determines inferred states to the question by comparing a first set of cohort attributes corresponding to a first cohort type against entity attributes corresponding to the question. In turn, the knowledge manager generates possible answers by comparing the inferred states against a second set of cohort attributes corresponding to a second cohort type.

  • Publication number: 20160013794
Abstract: A divide-by-seven divider includes a first module clocked with a clock input, and a second module coupled to the first module and clocked with an output of the first module. The first and second modules are configured to divide the clock input by seven and to output the divided clock input. The first module may be configured to store a count between 0 and 3 in a count cycle. The divide-by-seven divider may further include a feedback module coupled between the first module and the second module that is configured to cause the first module to skip one count in the count between 0 and 3 once every other count cycle. Specifically, the first module may be configured to store incrementally the count “00,” “10,” “11,” and “01” in a count cycle and to skip the count “01” every other count cycle based on input from the feedback module.

  • Patent number: 9148198
Abstract: System, methods and apparatus are described that improve signaling in a three-wire multiphase communication link. A method for data communications includes determining a transition in signaling state of three wires of a communication link between a pair of consecutive symbols transmitted on the communication link, and enhancing or attenuating energy of a signal prior to the transition in signaling state of the three wires when the transition in signaling state includes a change in signaling state of a wire on which the signal is transmitted. Each symbol may define a different signaling state of the three wires of the communication link. For each symbol transmitted, two of the three wires are differentially encoded and the third wire is in a neutral state. Different wires are differentially encoded during transmission of consecutive symbols.

  • Patent number: 8607133
Abstract: A data processing device acquires a first parameter value of a hardware component, and calculates a first prediction value of the first parameter using a prediction algorithm. If a difference of the first prediction value and the first parameter falls within a deviation range, the first parameter value is determined as a real value and is stored. Otherwise, the device acquires a second parameter value of the hardware component that follows the first parameter value, and calculates a second prediction value of the second parameter value. If a difference between the second prediction value and the second parameter value falls with a second deviation range, the first parameter value is determined as a real value and is stored. Otherwise, the first parameter value is determined as a false value and is abandoned.

  • Patent number: 8460698
Abstract: A composite article comprises a fluid transport layer having first and second surfaces and a hydrophobic layer applied to the first surface of the fluid transport layer. When the composite article is used as a wound dressing, the first surface of the fluid transport layer provides a skin-facing surface. The hydrophobic layer comprises a plurality of discontinuities, and at least a portion of the discontinuities have a dimension sufficient to permit the passage of fluid through the hydrophobic layer and into the fluid transport layer.

  • Patent number: 8458524
Abstract: A firmware recovery system includes a baseboard management controller (BMC) module, a south bridge, a basic input and output system (BIOS) module, a multiplexer and a storage module. The BIOS module is connected to the BMC module by the south bridge and determines whether a firmware file of the BMC module is corrupt. The multiplexer selectively connects the BIOS module or the BMC module to the south bridge. The storage module stores a new firmware file. When the firmware file of the BMC module is corrupt, the BIOS module controls the multiplexer to select the BMC module to connect to the south bridge. The BIOS module reads the new firmware file from the storage module to recover the corrupt firmware file from the BMC module.

  • Patent number: 8454990
Abstract: A composite article comprises a fluid transport layer, a fluid retentive layer, and, optionally, a moisture vapor permeable film. The first surface of the fluid transport layer provides a fluid contacting surface. The fluid retentive layer is positioned so that the first surface layer of the fluid retentive layer is adjacent to the second surface of the fluid transport layer. The moisture vapor permeable film is positioned so that it is adjacent to the second surface of the fluid retentive layer. The composite article is suitable for use as a wound dressing.

  • Patent number: 8421644
Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) control system and method sets a number of virtual LEDs according to a number of error events of a computing device. The system and method further assigns a priority level to each error event and a unique indication status of the error event. If more than one error event occurs to the computing device, each error event is indicated by a virtual LED by a unique indication status, however, only the error event having the highest priority level is synchronously indicated by a virtual LED and the physical LED.

  • Patent number: 8274398
Abstract: A Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash drive includes an USB interface, a control unit, a storage unit, a timer, a logic circuit, and a quartz meter that includes a scale dial and a dial pointer. The control unit calculates a storage capacity difference between a current storage capacity and a previous storage capacity, and calculates a runtime of the dial pointer according to a time calculation algorithm. The control unit generates an enabling signal if the storage capacity difference is not equal to zero, and generates an interrupt signal when the runtime equals the time value. The logic circuit outputs a high voltage to the quartz meter to control the dial pointer to run around the scale dial according to the enabling signal, and outputs a low voltage to the quartz meter to control the dial pointer to stop running around the scale dial according to the interrupt signal.
