Publication number: 20130188526Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a user with access to emergency services are described. A cable modem/multimedia terminal adapter employing voice over internet protocol (VoIP) can be configured to provide access to emergency services during periods of unavailability of a connection to a network due to software upgrades of the cable modem/multimedia terminal adapter or a VoIP handset, a power outage or a malfunction of the cable modem/multi-media terminal adapter or the VoIP handset. Access to emergency services can be provided through the use of a dedicated button on the cable modem/multimedia terminal adapter and the use of dedicated hardware in the cable modem/multimedia terminal adapter that is configured to initiate operation when a connection to the network is unavailable.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2010Publication date: July 25, 2013Applicant: THOMSON LICENSINGInventors: Steven Lee Cooper, JR., Jeffrey William Speicher

Publication number: 20130182703Abstract: A system and method for providing automatic determination of a call type in a voice over Internet Protocol data network is provided. A 10-digit telephone number for making a telephone call is entered and a look up of the telephone number is performed in a database comprising at least known long distance numbers. If no match exists, the telephone number is transmitted over the data network to a local Call Management Server. If the local call is not successful, the number is automatically transmitted with a pre-pended “I” to a Long Distance Call Management Server. Advantageously, a VoIP system is provided for automatically determining that a number is a long distance call, upon which it will automatically pre-pend a leading “1” to the number and re-transmit the resultant 11 digit number to the appropriate Long Distance Call Management Server.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2010Publication date: July 18, 2013Applicant: THOMSON LICENSINGInventor: Steven Lee Cooper, JR.

Patent number: 8338795Abstract: An instrument that will directly image the fast fission neutrons from a special nuclear material source wherein the neutron detection efficiency is increased has been described. Instead of the previous technique that uses a time-of-flight (TOF) between 2 widely spaced fixed planes of neutron detectors to measure scatter neutron kinetic energy, we now use the recoil proton energy deposited in the second of the 2 scatter planes which can now be repositioned either much closer together or further apart. However, by doubling the separation distance between the 2 planes from 20 cm to a distance of 40 cm we improved the angular resolution of the detector from about 12° to about 10°. A further doubling of the separation distance to 80 cm provided an addition improvement in angular resolution of the detector to about 6° without adding additional detectors or ancillary electronics.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Sandia CorporationInventors: Nicholas Mascarenhas, Peter Marleau, Mark Gerling, Robert Lee Cooper, Stanley Mrowka, James S. Patent number: 8146870Abstract: A foldable guitar stand includes: two main support legs; two vertical support members; two rear legs; and a brace. With respect to each side of the guitar stand, one main support leg, one vertical support member, and one rear leg pivot relative to each other about a common axis defined by a pin. The first vertical support member is then operably joined to the second vertical support member by a hinge, and the brace extends between and further connects the vertical support members. In a deployed position, each of the main support legs is rotated about the respective axes defined by the pins to a position in which a substantially flat foot portion of the main support legs can engage the underlying ground surface. Each of the rear legs is rotated away from the respective main support legs to a position in which the respective foot portions can engage the underlying ground surface. The two vertical support members (which are hinged together) are then rotated into an upright orientation.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2010Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Coopercopia, LLCInventor: Daniel Lee Cooper

Publication number: 20100226623Abstract: Setting of time in a digital television signal processing device is accomplished by identifying time data that matches or is closest to a user entered time. The identified television channel is then stored by the digital television signal processing device and used as a time source by the digital television channel processing device. The identification of a preferred time source (television channel) for the digital television signal processing device may be performed automatically once the user has manually inputted time information, or it may be performed through user interface such as through an on-screen display. Such identification may include a search of all available television channels having embedded time data.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2006Publication date: September 9, 2010Applicant: THOMSON LICENSINGInventors: Steven Lee Cooper, Mark Gilmore Mears
