  • Patent number: 7496275
Abstract: A method and system for recording a program in an apparatus that has auxiliary programming information available are described. A program is first selected for recording. A determination is made to see whether the associated auxiliary programming information is available for the selected first program for recording. If the associated auxiliary programming information is not available for the selected first program, then a recording timer is automatically populated with all known recording parameters. All the unknown recording parameters in the recording timer are also populated according to a predetermined algorithm.

  • Patent number: 6945227
Abstract: A method for controlling mode transitions, such as from stratified to homogeneous mode, in a direct injection engine adjusts an intake manifold outlet control device, such as a cam timing, to rapidly control cylinder fresh charge despite manifold dynamics. In addition, a coordinated change between an intake manifold inlet control device, for example a throttle, and the outlet control device is used to achieve the rapid cylinder fresh charge control. In this way, engine torque disturbances during the mode transition are eliminated, even when cylinder air/fuel ratio is changed from one cylinder event to the next.

  • Publication number: 20050111417
Abstract: A method of sending data from a first party participating in a telephone call to a second party participating in the telephone call, comprising, in the terminal of the first party, storing, as a consequence of the telephone call, identifier data that identifies the second party; using the stored identifier data to determine automatically a destination address for a data message; and sending, during the telephone call, the data message with the automatically determined destination address. A method for sending data from a first party participating in a telephone call to a second party participating in the telephone call, comprising, in the terminal of the first party: providing, while the telephone call is on-going, a user selectable option to transfer data to another party participating in the telephone call without user specification of a destination address.

  • Patent number: 6842691
Abstract: A system and method for controlling first and second phase shiftable camshafts in a variable cam timing engine is provided. The method includes determining when the first camshaft is moving toward a first scheduled phase angle with respect to the crankshaft with a larger camshaft angular positioning error than the second camshaft. Finally, the method includes slowing down the first camshaft so that synchronized camshaft positioning can be better achieved.

  • Patent number: 6738706
Abstract: A method for estimating operating parameters of an internal combustion engine uses data stored as a function of intake and exhaust valve timing. In particular, the parameters are stored at a default operating point, several stability limited points, a high performance point, and an intermediate point. An inverse distance interpolation algorithm is used to calculated current slope and offset values at the current operating conditions. From these calculated slope and offset values, engine operating parameters, such as manifold pressure and cylinder air amount, are estimated.

  • Patent number: 6650992
Abstract: A system and method for selecting one of first and second camshafts in an engine is provided. The first and second camshafts control air flow communicating with the first and second cylinders, respectively, of the engine. The engine includes a crankshaft being driven by first and second pistons with the first and second cylinders. The method includes determining which of the first and second camshafts is moving at a faster rate of movement toward a first scheduled phase angle with respect to the crankshaft. Finally, the method includes selecting one of the first and second camshafts having the faster rate of movement for reducing engine torque fluctuations.

  • Publication number: 20030204857
Abstract: A consumer electronic apparatus includes at least a clock, and in some cases a microprocessor, which produces data, such as time-of-day or control parameters, which are stored in volatile memory. A power failure can cause this data to be lost. The data are stored in nonvolatile memory according to an algorithm during normal operation, so that they are available after a power failure. In one version, the parameters are stored at fixed intervals. In another version, the parameters are stored in response to a change. In yet another version, the parameters are stored in a manner which is distributed among plural memory locations to extend life.
