Patent number: 9928269Abstract: An approach is provided to correct documents ingested by a question answering (QA) system. A document previously ingested by the QA system is selected. A correction to the selected document is identified from one or more correction sources and the correction is applied to the selected document within the QA system. In one embodiment, the correction source is a non-ingested document, such as a published document or an issued correction. In another embodiment, the correction source is a post in a forum. In this embodiment, a statement in the ingested document is compared with a contradictory statement found in an ingested post of a threaded discussion. The statement and the contradictory statement are evaluated by the QA system. The statement in the ingested document is replaced with the contradictory statement in response to the evaluation revealing that the contradictory statement is correct and that the statement is incorrect.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2015Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Lisa M. Patent number: 9928087Abstract: At a system configured according to a first configuration, an activity that uses a second configuration is detected. A set of changes is determined, which when applied to the first configuration result in the second configuration. State information of a second activity at the system is saved. The set of changes is applied to the first configuration to operate the system under the second configuration. The activity is performed under the second configuration until completion. A portion of the set of changes is removed from a portion of the second configuration such that the portion of the second configuration reverts to a corresponding portion of the first configuration. The second activity is resumed using the saved state information. The state information is sufficient to resume the second activity after the activity has completed and from a point reached in the second activity before the applying of the set of changes.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2014Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Judith H. Patent number: 9916395Abstract: An approach is provided to determine answer stability in a question answering (QA) system. In the approach, a question submitted to a question answering (QA) system is selected and data pertaining to a candidate answers generated by the QA system are analyzed. The analysis of the data results in a stability characteristic that pertains to the candidate answers. A confidence value associated with the candidate answers is adjusted based on the respective answer's stability characteristic. One or more of the candidate answers are provided to a requestor based on the adjusted confidence values.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2015Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Corville O. Publication number: 20180067943Abstract: Approaches presented herein enable automatically indicating approval between portions of content in digital items in a digital item network context based on social media activity. Specifically, activity signals (e.g., likes, shares, etc.) related to a social media item in a social media network environment having a topic are evaluated and a set of tags are generated based on the topic. A first portion of content from a first digital item and a second portion of content from a second digital item are selected from a collection of digital items received via a digital item network. The first portion and second portion are related to the topic based on the set of generated tags. An approval action (e.g., likes) is performed between the first portion and second portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2016Publication date: March 8, 2018Inventors: Lisa M. Publication number: 20180063058Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for improving social network users' interactions. The content of posts in a thread is analyzed so as to group the posts by topic. The posts directed to a specific topic are then analyzed to determine which users posted an initial post or a comment containing an ongoing question not answered. The users' profiles, liked pages and/or friends' graphs for the users involved in the analyzed posts are analyzed to determine any relationships among the users. Furthermore, past communication patterns and/or liked pages of the users are analyzed to determine the likelihood of responding to posts. The posts in the original thread are split into a new thread containing the group(s) of posts directed to a topic(s) having a group of users who would most likely participate in the new thread, where the group of users is selected based on the analysis discussed above.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2017Publication date: March 1, 2018Inventors: Vikrant Akavaram, Lisa M. Bradley, Lillian Y. Lei, Lawrence Louie

Patent number: 9791942Abstract: In dynamically adjusting a keyboard mapping, a collaborative session in which a participant device is involved is detected. A conversation between participants during the collaborative session is captured, and topics being discussed during the conversation are identified using textual analysis. The topics are compared with a plurality of rules, each of which associates a topic with a keyboard mapping. From the rule that has a topic matching the identified topics, the keyboard mapping associated with the topic is obtained. The keyboard is then displayed using the keyboard mapping on the participant device. In determining the rule with the matching topic, a history of rules applied in prior collaborative session where the same or similar topics were discussed, or a profile of a participant, is considered. In this manner, keyboard mappings are dynamically adjusted, allowing for easier access to relevant keys.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2015Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Corville O. Patent number: 9769181Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for protecting data stored on a mobile device, based upon its location. Data stored on a mobile device is encrypted with a network-stored secret key that is unknown to the user of the mobile device. The secret key is provided directly to the mobile device once the user is authenticated and it has been determined that the mobile device is located within a predetermined geographical area. The provided secret key is then used to decrypt the encrypted data stored on the mobile device such that it can then be accessed by the user. The user is then prevented from accessing the encrypted data when it is determined that the mobile device is no longer located within the predetermined geographical area.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2014Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Judith H. Patent number: 9730076Abstract: Using a system distinct from a mobile device, the mobile device is switched from a first mode to a second mode to access a set of data storage locations in the mobile device. All malware-susceptible data stored in the set of data storage locations is received at the system from the mobile device to form received data, which is analyzed at the system to detect a malware from a set of malware in a first portion of the received data. Responsive to the analyzing, the first portion of the received data is modified at the system to form a modified first portion, wherein the modifying removes the malware from the first portion. The system stores the modified first portion in a first data storage location in the mobile device and a second portion of the received data in a second data storage location in the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2015Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Judith H. Patent number: 9721470Abstract: An approach is provided in which an intelligent parking system receives a request from a driver of a vehicle for a parking space. The intelligent parking system identifies available parking spaces and selects a preferred parking space from the available parking spaces based upon comparing dynamic parking space properties corresponding to the available parking spaces to factors such as driver skill data corresponding to the driver or vehicle properties corresponding to the vehicle. In turn, the intelligent parking system notifies the driver of the preferred parking space.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2015Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Vikrant Akavaram, Lisa M. Patent number: 9721149Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for ensuring a desired distribution of images in a multimedia document (e.g., yearbook, slideshow). A desired distribution of facial signatures in a multimedia document to be created by the user is received. Upon receiving an image to be added to the multimedia document by the user, a facial signature for a face detected in the image is generated. The current number of instances of the facial signature in the multimedia document is then determined. A determination is then made as to whether the current number of instances of the facial signature meets the desired distribution. An indication is then provided to the user as to whether the current number of instances of the facial signature meets or does not meet the desired distribution. In this manner, the user can ensure a desired distribution of images in the multimedia document.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2016Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Lisa M.
