  • Patent number: 9966625
Abstract: The present invention provides a non-aqueous redox flow battery comprising a negative electrode immersed in a non-aqueous liquid negative electrolyte, a positive electrode immersed in a non-aqueous liquid positive electrolyte, and a cation-permeable separator (e.g., a porous membrane, film, sheet, or panel) between the negative electrolyte from the positive electrolyte. During charging and discharging, the electrolytes are circulated over their respective electrodes. The electrolytes each comprise an electrolyte salt (e.g., a lithium or sodium salt), a transition-metal free redox reactant, and optionally an electrochemically stable organic solvent. Each redox reactant is selected from an organic compound comprising a conjugated unsaturated moiety, a boron cluster compound, and a combination thereof. The organic redox reactant of the positive electrolyte comprises a tetrafluorohydroquinone ether compound or a tetrafluorocatechol ether compound.

  • Patent number: 9947259
Abstract: An electronic device may include a display having an array of display pixels and having display control circuitry that controls the operation of the display. The display control circuitry may adaptively adjust the display output based on ambient lighting conditions. For example, in cooler ambient lighting conditions such as those dominated by daylight, the display may display neutral colors using a relatively cool white. When the display is operated in warmer ambient lighting conditions such as those dominated by indoor light sources, the display may display neutral colors using a relatively warm white. Adapting to the ambient lighting conditions may ensure that the user does not perceive color shifts on the display as the user's vision chromatically adapts to different ambient lighting conditions. Adaptively adjusting images in this way can also have beneficial effects on the human circadian rhythm by displaying warmer colors in the evening.

  • Publication number: 20180090847
Abstract: An electronic device may have a hybrid antenna that includes a slot resonating element formed from a slot in a ground plane and a planar resonating element formed over the slot. A parasitic element may be disposed over the planar element. A switch may couple the parasitic element to the ground. A tunable circuit may couple the planar element to the ground. The switch and tunable circuit may be placed in different tuning states. In a first state, the tunable circuit and switch form open circuits. In a second state, the tunable circuit may an open circuit and the switch is closed. In a third state, the tunable circuit forms a return path and the switch forms an open circuit. This may allow the antenna to operate with satisfactory efficiency in low, mid, and high bands despite volume constraints imposed on the antenna.

  • Publication number: 20180063023
Abstract: An approach is provided in which an information handling system establishes a resource reservation protocol (RSVP) session corresponding to a flow between a first entity and a second entity operating within a computer environment that implements a network virtualization overlay protocol. Once the RSVP session is established, the information handling system encapsulates data packets of the flow based on the network virtualization overlay protocol and, in turn, sends the encapsulated data packet over the computer network with a quality of service (QoS) assurance level that is based on the established RSVP session.

  • Publication number: 20170263174
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display, display control circuitry that operates the display, and a color ambient light sensor that gathers ambient light information. Display color cast may be adjusted based on the ambient light information. When the color of ambient light is within an acceptable range of colors, the color cast of the display may be adjusted to more closely match the color of ambient light. When the color of ambient light is outside of the acceptable range of colors, display control circuitry may determine an adjusted ambient light color that is within the acceptable range. The adjusted ambient light color may have the same color temperature as the measured ambient light color. After determining an adjusted ambient light color that is within the acceptable range, the color cast of the display may be adjusted to more closely match the adjusted ambient light color.
