  • Patent number: 8285983
Abstract: A method of establishing a secure communication channel between a user terminal (2) and a SIP server (14) for the purpose of controlling a service such as an IPTV service. The method comprises sending from the user terminal (2) to the SIP server (14) a session initiation request, via an IP Multimedia Subsystem network, where the IP Multimedia Subsystem network incorporates into the request a P-Asserted-Identity. At the SIP server (14), access to the service is authorized on the basis of said P-Asserted-Identity and, upon successful authorization, a security token is sent to the user terminal (2), via the IP Multimedia Subsystem network. The SIP server (14) and the user terminal (2) use said security token to establish a secure communication channel between each other.

  • Patent number: 8275379
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for handling handover of a mobile terminal in a mobile communications network. The mobile communications network comprises both radio access network and core network portions. Handover is from a source cell served by a source Mobile Switching Center to a target cell served by a target Mobile Switching Center. The source Mobile Switching Center generates a request for handover message and sends it to a Handover Routing Router. At the Handover Routing Router, an identity of the target cell or a target node is determined from the request, and the target cell or node identity is mapped to the address of the target Mobile Switching Center. The request for handover is then sent from the Handover Routing Router to the target Mobile Switching Center.

  • Patent number: 8275376
Abstract: In cellular mobile networks handover between base stations of adjacent cells requires the identity, address and frequency of all adjacent cells to be known to other elements of the network. Conventional networks can be extended by the addition of unlicensed-radio access networks. These include an access network controller (303) preferably connected via a broadband network (302) to a plurality of low-power local base stations (301), which communicate with mobile stations (1) over an unlicensed radio interface. The number and changing location of the local base station renders the operation and maintenance required to enable handover from the conventional network to these access networks prohibitively complex. This difficulty is alleviated by assigning the whole access network a single identifier. With this arrangement regardless of which base station mini-cell (304) an active call is being handed-over to, the conventional network will be able to route the request to the access network controller.

  • Patent number: 8249594
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and architecture on how mobile stations (MS) are provisioned about information of an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) network controller (UNC). The UNC in accordance with the present invention provides three different logical roles (i.e., provisioning, default and serving). More specifically, the present invention provides a method for assigning a mobile station (MS) to an unlicensed mobile access (UMA) network controller (UNC) in an unlicensed mobile access network (UMAN). The MS is connected to a provisioning UNC and discovers a default UNC. A serving UNC is then determined to assign the MS to and the MS is assigned to the serving UNC. The serving UNC can be the default UNC, the provisioning UNC or another UNC.

  • Publication number: 20120196570
Abstract: A method and apparatus for allocating an identifier to a terminal in a communications network. A core network controlling node, such as a Mobility Management Entity (MME) receives an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) from the terminal. Subscription information is determined using both the IMSI and the IMEI. A temporary identifier that can be used to identify the terminal is then allocated to the subscription information.

  • Patent number: 8165574
Abstract: A method of establishing a call to or from a mobile station (MS) operating in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) access network. An interface is established between the MS and a Packet Mobile Switching Center (PMSC), and the call is initiated after the network accepts a service request from the MS for an originating call, or after the MS is notified of a terminating call. The PMSC requests packet-switched domain resources from a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) and establishes a voice bearer channel with an endpoint in the network when the requested resources are available. The PMSC facilitates bidirectional voice traffic between the MS and the endpoint. The PMSC may also use the PCRF to modify the bearer. The PMSC then signals the MS to modify parameters for the established call.

  • Publication number: 20100287285
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of establishing a session between client user terminals accessing IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, networks. At least one of the IMS networks implements the use of Quality of Service, QoS, preconditions, and at least one of the client user terminals does not use QoS preconditions. The method includes receiving, at an inter-working function, IWF located in one of the IMS networks, an IMS session initiation request originated by an originating client, the request indicating a terminating client for the session. A decision is made, based on the session initiation request, that one of the originating client and the terminating client is not using QoS preconditions. A set of QoS preconditions is inserted into a procedure for establishing the IMS session on behalf of the client that is not using QoS preconditions. Session establishment is completed only after QoS resources complying with the set of QoS preconditions have been established.

  • Publication number: 20100255846
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for handling handover of a mobile terminal in a mobile communications network. The mobile communications network comprises both radio access network and core network portions. Handover is from a source cell served by a source Mobile Switching Centre to a target cell served by a target Mobile Switching Centre. The source Mobile Switching Centre generates a request for handover message and sends it to a Handover Routing Router. At the Handover Routing Router, an identity of the target cell or a target node is determined from the request, and the target cell or node identity is mapped to the address of the target Mobile Switching Centre. The request for handover is then sent from the Handover Routing Router to the target Mobile Switching Centre.
