  • Publication number: 20090259990
Abstract: Mobile device software is managed by providing an interface between a plurality of software module handlers and a plurality of software modules. The interface is invoked responsive to a software module event such as the installation, removal, activation or modification of a software module. The interface identifies the software module and a corresponding attribute list associated with the software module event. The attribute list specifies one or more actions to be taken by at least one of the software module handlers that enable the identified software module to provide one or more functions when invoked. The attribute list is provided to each software module handler identified in the list and each action specified in the list is taken by the corresponding software module handler. This way, the interface reliably manages the different software modules without being aware of the particular functions provided by the modules or the specific actions taken by the handlers.

  • Patent number: 7602866
Abstract: A method/apparatus is provided that detects impairment in a received signal and employs the structure in the receiver that is designed for that purpose. Preferably, the method/apparatus detects the interferer modulation and employs the structure in the receiver that is designed for that purpose. The detection is preferably performed using a quality measure, e.g., the residual errors after channel estimation or SNR (signal-to-noise-ratio) estimates after channel estimation. Preferably, hypothesis tests, threshold schemes, or schemes where the threshold is adapted according to one of the measures are used. The receiver selects between an interference rejection method and a conventional receiver or selects between an interference rejection method and a less powerful interference rejection method, or a combination thereof.

  • Publication number: 20080287084
Abstract: An antenna device for a portable radio communication device adapted for receiving radio signals comprises an internal radiating element (10) comprising at least one feeding portion (21, 22) connected to a receiver circuit (40). The radiating element (10) comprises an electrical impedance (30) that is controllable in dependence on the desired frequency range of the received signals, wherein the feeding portion (21, 22) is connected to a feeding input (40a, 40b) on the receiver circuit and the control input of the controllable electrical impedance (30) is connected to an output (40c) on the receiver circuit (40) intended for the control of the VCO resonance frequency of the receiver circuit.

  • Publication number: 20080274727
Abstract: Signal properties of a signal section (106) comprising a training sequence are compared with corresponding signal properties of other signal sections (108, 110). At a too large discrepancy, co-sequence interference is concluded to be present. The used signal property can preferably be a signal-to-noise ratio measure or a signal statistics measure. If the existence of co-sequence interference (102) is concluded, measures can be taken to avoid such interference and to mitigate the effects of the interference. A method for mitigating effects of co-sequence interference in channel estimation comprises a joint detection and estimation procedure performed under constrictions assuming presence of co-sequence interference.

  • Publication number: 20080268809
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing location information for subscribers connected to a packet-switched mobile access network in connection with emergency calls made over a multimedia service network. An emergency request is received at the multimedia service network from a subscriber (A) containing the calling number of the subscriber. In response thereto, a media gateway control function in the multimedia service network sends a location query including said calling number to a mobile positioning centre in the mobile access network, which then can retrieve location information for the subscriber. After receiving location information from the mobile positioning centre, the media gateway control function selects an emergency centre and sends a location indication for the subscriber thereto in a circuit-switched control message for initiating an emergency call, according to prevailing standards.

  • Publication number: 20080107243
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining location information for subscribers connected to an IP access network (300), in order to enable supply of such location information in connection with emergency calls directed to a multimedia service network (302). A request is received (3:1) at the multimedia service network from a subscriber (A) containing an IP address currently assigned to the subscriber. In response thereto, the multimedia service network sends a location query (3:2) including said IP address to the IP access network, which then can retrieve (3:3, 3:4) location information for the subscriber based on the IP address, by determining at which point of access in the IP access network the IP address is currently used. The IP access network then submits (3:5) the obtained location information to the multimedia service network in response to the location query.

  • Publication number: 20070237134
Abstract: An important objective for third generation mobile communications systems is to provide IP services, and a very important part of these services will be the conversational voice. The conversational voice service includes three distinct information flows: session control, the voice media, and the media control messages. In a preferred embodiment, based on the specific characteristics for each information flow, each information flow is allocated its own bearer with a Quality of Service (QOS) tailored to its particular characteristics. In a second embodiment, the session control and media control messages are supported with a single bearer with a QoS that suits both types of control messages. Both embodiments provide an IP conversational voice service with increased radio resource efficiency and QoS.

  • Patent number: 7221657
Abstract: The capacity and coverage of a packet-based conversational service in a mobile communications system is increased by efficiently provisioning resources for packets that have different length headers transported over the radio interface during the period over which the service is provided. A radio bearer or connection is established between a mobile radio and a radio network to support a packet-based conversational service. The radio bearer or connection is normally configured with radio resources to deliver a particular quality of service assuming that the packet headers will be highly compressed. The length of packets to be transmitted via the radio bearer is checked. Those packets which are longer because of less header compression are detected. Processing is performed to minimize or reduce that impact on system capacity or coverage when the detected packets are transmitted over the radio bearer or connection.
