  • Patent number: 7554971
Abstract: A method for estimating end-to-end quality of service (QOS), such as packet loss, delay, and delay jitter, in a packet-switched communications network includes steps for calculating packet loss and packet delay each router output link in a network path and using the packet loss and packet delay calculations for each individual router output link to estimate end-to-end QOS. The method includes calculating the loss probability for all possible numbers of active sources to take into account changes in the number of active sources as active sources connect to and disconnect from the network. As a result, the inventive method allows the number of active sources to vary in its estimation of end-to-end packet loss, delay, and delay jitter for enhanced Internet Protocol network planning.

  • Patent number: 7539741
Abstract: A policy server is arranged to construct device-neutral policies for configuring CBR for MPLS traffic engineering across a network. The policy server translates the device-neutral policies into device-specific commands (e.g. link attribute definitions and affinity profiles). The policy server defines the link attributes, assigns the link attributes to network interfaces, establishes affinity profiles and attaches the affinity profiles to MPLS tunnels. The link attribute definitions and affinity profiles are shared across the network to construct the policies such that IP operators can configure CBR easily across a network.

  • Patent number: 7443835
Abstract: In mobile IP networks, when a mobile node (MN) moves from one cell to another, handover occurs. The result of the handover is that the MN connects to the network through a new access router (AR). The handover may occur between access routers of the same or different administrative domains. In all cases, the information related to the mobile node has to be transferred from the old AR to the new AR in order to minimize the effect of the change of access routers.

  • Patent number: 7386630
Abstract: A policy server operates to configure differentiated services over multi-protocol label switching (Diffserv/MPLS) in a communications network. The policy server enables the definition and deployment of a customer policy, a network policy and a mapping policy. The policy server is arranged to create a group of MPLS tunnels, and associate the tunnels to the mapping policy and the customer policy. The customer policy includes a tunnel group identifier and a tunneling mode, and maps customer traffic to MPLS tunnels. The policy server translates the customer policy, the network policy and the mapping policy into device-specific commands, and then deploys the device-specific commands to the network interfaces of the affected network devices.

  • Publication number: 20070004625
Abstract: Trauma to the spinal cord initiates an inflammatory response that results in secondary injury to the surrounding tissue, thereby exacerbating the effects of the initial injury. These secondary injury effects are contributed to, in part, by the activation of complement and the associated inflammatory reaction at the site of injury. The present invention describes a method for treating and/or ameliorating these secondary effects and improving locomotor function of a vertebrate that has suffered a spinal cord injury by administering a complement inhibitory protein to the individual as soon as possible after the initial injury occurs. According to this method, by inhibiting the activation of complement, inflammation and the resulting secondary tissue injury are reduced, thereby improving the prognosis of a patient suffering a spinal cord injury.

  • Publication number: 20060237578
Abstract: A paper dispenser having end plates connected together by rails. Each rail is associated with a roll guide which is movable about an axis of the rail. The roll guide has a plurality of rotatable elements and may additionally be movable along the length of the rail such that a distance between two or more roll guides may be varied along the length of the rail. The roll guide is configured such that the rotatable elements of multiple roll guides will self adjust their orientation relative to a paper roll surface of a paper roll as it is dispensed from the paper dispenser. The paper dispenser also includes a paper cutting element that spans a portion of the distance between the end plates. A tape/ribbon dispenser, leg elements and/or standoff elements may also be associated with the paper dispenser. The leg elements and or standoff elements may be configured such that a paper dispenser can be secured to a surface and/or be such that multiple paper dispenser elements can be attached together.

  • Publication number: 20060151433
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for removing and recoating of diamond-like carbon films and its products thereof. The method is to immerse the units that are coated with diamond-like carbon films into the hydrogen chloride solution to come off the coating, which was located on the units' surface. In addition, the method can effectively improve the past fault of poor adhesion, resulting from excessive residual stress and damaged unit surface due to the conventional sandblasting film removing process.

  • Patent number: 6966685
Abstract: An illumination system employs a light distribution cylinder with an exterior surface in the form of a plurality of progressively smaller-diameter cylindrical steps. The outside surface of each cylindrical step is interrupted by V-shaped grooves perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. Each surface of these V-shaped grooves acts to internally reflect divergent light from a light source positioned at the end of the tube. The light distribution cylinders may be solid or hollow and configured with bilateral symmetry to receive light from either end. The illumination system rearranges divergent directional light from a light source into non-directional light emitted in a cylindrical pattern useful for area illumination.
