  • Patent number: 7859963
Abstract: A method and apparatus of controlling an optical disk apparatus determines a reference recording power at each of a plurality of recording speeds for an inserted optical disk, performs a power control procedure for a prescribed recording speed to determine a recording power at the prescribed recording speed in response to a recording request, and then computes a recording power at each of the recording speeds based on the reference recording power and the recording power determined at the prescribed recording speed. The power control procedure is performed only for an inner circumferential area of the disk, irrespective of whether a requested recording speed is less than or greater than the prescribed recording speed. As a result, the speed of the data recording operation may be substantially improved and/or other improvements may be realized.

  • Patent number: 7832120
Abstract: A moisture repellant tread is provided for a positive displacement of moisture to secure the traction in the bottom of a shoe. The tread comprises a base plate and multiple short bundles of absorbent fibers. The base plate has a top surface locally bonded to the outsole with a lateral clearance between the base plate and outsole about the bonded areas, a bottom surface for contacting a floor and multiple closely arranged recesses open to the bottom surface and communicating through smaller openings formed at the top surfaces concentrically of the recesses. The fiber bundles are partially implanted in the recesses for displacing water absorbed from the floor upon contact through the openings at the top surfaces to the lateral clearance whereby the tread secures an increased traction as a wearer steps on the tread through the shoe even on a film of moisture.

  • Patent number: 7816829
Abstract: A dual motor has a shaft and a first motor connected to the shaft. The first motor is a standard electrical motor receiving voltage steps. The first motor provides a rotational force to the shaft when the voltage is applied. A second motor is also connected to the shaft, and the second motor is a permanent magnet motor comprising a flexible member connected to the shaft at a flexible member inside end. The permanent magnet motor also has an inside magnet mounted to a flexible member outside end, and the inside magnet moves relative to the shaft. The permanent magnet motor also has an outside housing. An outside magnet is mounted to the outside housing, and stepped voltage application flexes the flexible member. Optionally, stepped voltage application flexes the flexible member so that the outside magnet rotates relative to the inside magnet.

  • Patent number: 7690070
Abstract: A bi-pole cleaning handle device for universal use with conventional cleaning instruments is provided. The device has a first side pole and a second side pole pivoted by swivel connectors side supports, respectively. Extending from the side supports is a base generally shaped as a rectangular shell to hold a cleaner head, which may be selected from a sponge block, brush, scrub head, squeegee, cleaning pad and any other suitable cleaning material. The fist side pole has a handle at its top and the second side pole has a similar handle. Each handle is angled with respect to the axis of its pole and has a grip on one side. This angle is set for the converging function of the bi-pole handle of the present invention as well as ergonomics in holdings by the user. The cross section of the grip is semicircular. • Patent number: 7636284
Abstract: Embodiments of methods and apparatus for compensating writing power in an optical disc device can compensate selected (e.g., OPC) writing power. When a writing operation is temporarily suspended (e.g., buffer under-run) during the writing operation, writing power is compensated in real time on the basis of the ? value detected from read RF signals for most recently recorded data and comparisons to selected writing power (e.g., optimum ? value stored therein through OPC).

  • Publication number: 20090255617
Abstract: An external puncture sealing patch for a vehicle tire is provided. The patch comprises a thin spiked pad made of flexible base and a number of sharp pins partially implanted in the base in a radial arrangement around a central void protruding vertically downward from the bottom surface of the base for penetratively engaging a depth of the tire about its puncture upon depression onto the top surface of the base. A thick coat of an elastomeric sealant is added to the spiked side of the patch for sealingly adhering the spiked pad to the tire as the sealant fills any irregular clearances between the spiked pad and tire to reinforce the attachment thereof. In order to keep the patch effective for an extended period of time, the patch is also provided in a contained form whereby the patch in a dual-purpose container can be quickly deployed at the time of need for application to a tire puncture in a safe and comfortable manner.

  • Publication number: 20080095025
Abstract: An apparatus and method for recording data on an optical disc, are discussed. In an embodiment of the present invention, when recording of real-time input data in a high quality mode is requested, an Optimum Power Control (OPC) operation for recording is performed while input data is encoded in a quality mode, which is downwardly adjusted, for example, to a standard quality mode, and is then buffered in a buffer memory. After the OPC operation has been completed, the buffered data is recorded on the optical disc while the data is encoded in the requested high quality mode and is then buffered. Further, the input data is encoded in the requested high quality mode, but may be buffered in a hard disc, rather than the buffer memory, during the performance of the OPC operation.
