Abstract: An apparatus for automatic charging and discharging an X-ray film sheet into a cassette includes a bar code reader having an illumination device and a rotary scanning mirror. The cassette is provided on its top with a bar code label which irrespective of the format of the cassette is always located at a fixed distance from a leading edge and from a lateral guiding edge of the cassette. The cassette is insertable into an intake compartment and only after the cassette reaches an end position in the compartment a limit switch activates the scanning mirror and the illumination device of the reader, thus eliminating reading errors when reading bar codes on cassettes of different formats.

Abstract: Thermoplastic polyphosphonatocarbonate prepared by polycondensing at least one aromatic dihydroxy compound with a diaryl carbonate and a phosphonic acid diaryl ester in the presence of a basic polycondensation catalyst at a temperature of from 80.degree. to 340.degree. C. and under a pressure of 600 to 0.1 mm Hg in an inert gaseous atmosphere, the molar ratio of diaryl carbonate to phosphonic diaryl ester being from 5:95 to 95:5 and the molar ratio of aromatic dihydroxy compound to the sum of diaryl carbonate and phosphonic acid diaryl ester being from 0.91:1 to 0.99:1, and following polycondensation, neutralizing said basic catalyst.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a system for reducing the yield loss from a metallurgical vessel, such as a ladle holding liquid metal having a slag layer thereon, by delaying the onset of slag entrapment in the metal stream during the tapping thereof. More particularly, such system includes a modification to the drain hole and/or bottom of such vessel.

Abstract: An x-ray film sheet cassette, comprises a bottom part, and a cover part which are turnable relative to one another and lockable with one another, an element forming a guiding surface in the bottom part for guiding a film sheet during its insertion into the cassette between the bottom part and the cover part, a suction cup arranged in the bottom part for attracting a film sheet and having an upper edge, and a spring element arranged in the bottom part and formed so that when the cover part is open, the spring element lifts the guiding surface above a level of the upper edge of the suction cup, and when the cover is closed it presses the guiding surface and the spring element downwardly so that the suction cup is brought into contact with a film sheet.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for the production of oligourethanes having terminal mercapto groups by reacting organic polyisocyanates with sub-equivalent quantities of organic polyhydroxyl compounds and a mercapto-alkanol in the presence of at least one ester of phosphoric acid containing at least one hydroxyl group bound to phosphorus. The present invention is also directed to the mercapto group-containing oligourethanes obtainable by this process and their use as binders for oxidatively-hardenable coating and sealing compositions, additives for epoxide resins and cross-linking agents for plastics materials and plastics crude products containing olefinic double bonds.

Abstract: A light-proof tearable sheathing for a pack of photographic or X-ray sheet films insertable in a film supply magazine of a film cassette-loading device includes a winding flap which is wound on a shaft of the winding device to pull the sheathing from the film pack, a folded connection flap opposite to the winding flap and glued to the sheathing by a glue tape, and a tearing tape provided between two spaced strips of the glue tape and tearable from the sheathing to open the latter for the removal therefrom of individual film sheets.

Abstract: The flow of direct current and/or ringing alternating current in a telephone line subscriber loop is detected by means of current flow detectors. The output signals produced by the current flow detectors are applied to an evaluation circuit, the zero-crossings of the ringing alternating current being used to determine whether a ringing alternating current has been superimposed on the loop direct current.In order to increase the reliability of the evaluation and to detect noise voltages coupled into the subscriber-loop, the durations of positive and negative half-waves of the loop current are measured and the evaluation is effected by comparing the sum and the ratios of the measured values relative to a presettable threshold.

Abstract: 4,4'-dinitrodibenzyls are prepared by reaction of 4-nitrotoluenes, in the presence of an organic solvent and/or diluent, with an alkali metal-alcoholate and/or an alkaline earth metal alcoholate, and subsequent treatment of the reaction mixture with an aqueous solution of hypohalous acids and/or their salts or with chlorine, bromine or an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and/or its salts, or with organic or inorganic peracids and/or their salts.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to cross-linkable, hydroxyl group-containing polymer resins which are obtained by copolymerizing olefinically-unsaturated monomers and are suitable as binder components for lacquers, the polymer resins having a hydroxyl number of about 20 to 400, an average osmometrically-determined molecular weight of about 500 to 30,000 and a molecular inhomogeneity U of about 0.5 to 15, characterized in that they contain about 0.2 to 80% by weight, preferably about 10 to 70% by weight, based on the total weight of the copolymers, of incorporated monomers selected from olefinically- and acetylenically-unsaturated aliphatic diols having 4 carbon atoms, the ether group-containing alkoxylation products thereof with a hydroxyl number of about 50 to 900, the reaction products of these diols with .epsilon.-caprolactone in a mol ratio of diol:-caprolactone of about 1:0.2 to 1:10 and any mixtures of these components.

Abstract: Liquid bromine-containing alkoxylation products of butyne-(1,4)-diol which are storage stable are produced. More specifically, 1.5 to 2.5 mols alkylene oxide are reacted with each mol of butyne-(1,4)-diol present at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is selected from (1) thioethers having a molecular weight of up to 5000 obtained by adding a mercaptan and/or mercaptoalcohol to an unsaturated hydrocarbon and/or (2) thioethers other than those of (1) having a molecular weight of from 500 to 5000 and/or (3) alkali metal chlorides. This alkoxylation product is then reacted with bromine at -10.degree. to 80.degree. C. The bromide is reoxidized with aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution, stabilized with a relatively non-volatile epoxide and dehydrated. The product thus obtained is particularly useful in the production of flame resistant isocyanate addition products such as polyurethane foams.
